According to Panipat deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Satish Kumar, CCTV footage from the night of June 14 shows Sheetal and Sunil getting into his car. 'A heated argument took place when Sheetal started talking to a man (whom she wanted to marry) and Sunil lost his temper. He took out a knife from the dashboard of the car and attacked her. Then, he threw Sheetal's body in a canal in Panipat,' the cop added. The body of the model was found in a canal in Kharkhauda area in Sonepat district on Monday, a day after her sister Neha filed a missing complaint on the night of June 15, saying that Sheetal left home to shoot a music video on June 14, but did not return, police said, adding that Sunil was arrested by Monday evening. Neha said that before Sheetal started making music videos, she used to work at Sunil's hotel in Karnal till six months ago. ASI Anil Kumar, investigating officer from Urlana Kalan police check-post in Panipat, said Sunil and Sheetal had reportedly been friends for 4-5 years and she worked at Sunil's hotel in Karnal till six months ago. Police said Sunil told them that he got angry when she received a call from another man, to which he had objected. In a fit of rage, he slit her throat and threw her inside the canal and even tried to make it look like an accident by admitting himself to a hospital. Panipat deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Satish Kumar said Sunil pushed Sheetal into the canal and got himself admitted to a hospital. He told police that he managed to swim to safety. Satish Kumar said Sheetal and Sunil had an argument before she was killed, while the model's sister had reported her missing since June 14. He said Sheetal, who worked as a model making music videos, had gone to Ahar village in Panipat for some shoot on June 14 where Sunil met her and later she went into his car. They got into an argument – Sheetal was upset that Sunil had hid that he was married, he added. Police said Sheetal had also called her sister with whom she lived in Panipat, telling her that Sunil was 'beating" her. But the family could not reach her later as her phone was switched off, they said. Anil Kumar, a police officer from Panipat, said they were both married. Sheetal, who had a five-month-old child, was living separately from her husband due to a domestic dispute, he said. First Published: June 17, 2025, 16:29 IST
