SCC approves recommendations to support Sharjah Airport Authority
The Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) held its seventeenth and final session for the second ordinary term of its eleventh legislative chapter, during which it approved a set of recommendations to support Sharjah International Airport Authority. The session, chaired by Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, focused on recommendations prepared by the Committee for Drafting Proposals concerning Sharjah International Airport. These recommendations followed discussions held in the Council's 14th session on 22nd May 2025, attended by the Authority's Chairman and Director along with department representatives. Council members emphasised the importance of supporting and developing the Airport Authority as a vital gateway for Sharjah and a key driver for economic and tourism growth. They called for enhancing infrastructure, expanding services, and improving operational efficiencies to meet the demands of increased global travel and trade. Jassim Al Hanaee Al Naqbi, Chairman of the Proposal Drafting Committee, stressed the comprehensive and future-focused nature of the recommendations. He highlighted the need to upgrade services and anticipate rising passenger numbers. The Council urged continuous development efforts aligned with growth plans. It also stressed the need to grant airport staff the same employment benefits offered to other entities operating within the airport environment. Recommendations included support for Emiratisation policies and encouraging Emirati graduates to work with companies affiliated with the Authority. It called for specialised training programs to open new career paths in aviation for local youth. The Council recommended issuing local legislation to manage idle equipment and vehicles within airport facilities, ensuring efficient space usage and minimising operational disruptions due to financially struggling companies. In future planning, the Council emphasised reviewing growth rates in air traffic and airline rights up to 2050. It suggested evaluating whether to continue expanding the current airport or to consider establishing a new international airport to meet long-term demands. The Council concluded its session with thanks extended to committee members, participating departments, and individuals who contributed to the recommendations and overall discussions. Vice President Halima Al Owais reviewed key Council achievements during the term. In his closing remarks, Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi praised the Council's role as a model of consultative governance under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. He emphasised national loyalty, collective responsibility, and the importance of continuing progress in future terms. The session concluded with Secretary General Ahmed Saeed Al Jarwan reading Amiri Decree No. (20) of 2025, issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, ordering the end of the second ordinary term of the Council's eleventh legislative chapter, effective after the completion of the session on 19th June 2025.

Air Arabia doubles frequency to the Maldives
Post Views: 39 Air Arabia announced the expansion of its existing service between Sharjah and Maldives to twice daily non-stop flights starting 27 October 2025. The increase in frequency comes after a year from operating the service between Sharjah International Airport and Velana International Airport in Malé will now offer customers greater convenience and flexibility to explore the tropical paradise of the Maldives. Key themes and future-oriented proposals The committee reviewed the main observations and insights shared during the session, identifying major themes for the final set of recommendations. These included improving operational efficiency, expanding future capacity, enhancing regional and global competitiveness, and increasing Emiratisation across airport roles. Committee members also discussed incentives for private-sector firms to adopt pro-Emiratisation policies. Legislative and strategic recommendations Additional discussions focused on updating the regulatory framework governing the airport authority and putting forward strategic proposals to support Sharjah Airport's long-term development, aligned with anticipated growth in air traffic. Towards actionable, impactful recommendations Al Naqbi emphasised that the committee operates with a precise methodology informed by constructive debate in the plenary session and among committee members. The goal is to translate this input into actionable recommendations that align with both legislative goals and Sharjah's broader development agenda. He added that the proposed recommendations will aim to further advance Sharjah International Airport's operational readiness and infrastructure as it continues to expand. The goal is to reinforce the airport's role as a key strategic hub for the emirate—regionally and internationally—reflecting the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. At the conclusion of the meeting, the committee agreed to complete the final drafting of its recommendation report in preparation for presentation at the upcoming session of the Sharjah Consultative Council. The aim is to ensure the recommendations contribute meaningfully to enhancing the quality and efficiency of services provided through Sharjah International Airport, while aligning with the emirate's forward-looking vision for sustainable development and global competitiveness.

SIAD concludes pilgrim awareness programmes
These programmes aimed to prepare pilgrims and equip them with the necessary religious knowledge to perform Hajj in the best possible manner. This initiative reflects the department's commitment to providing guidance and religious support to the pilgrims. The programmes featured a diverse range of activities, most notably the comprehensive educational seminar 'Hajj Step by Step,' which detailed Hajj and explained the related religious rulings in a simplified manner tailored to meet the needs of various groups of pilgrims. Additionally, the department organised home visits to senior pilgrims, during which they were provided with essential Hajj materials and guidance, ensuring their readiness to perform the pilgrimage. Farewell and Support at the Airport The department concluded its extensive awareness programmes for UAE pilgrims by bidding farewell to those departing for the holy lands through Sharjah International Airport, where their inquiries were addressed and a religious kit was distributed. This kit included booklets, guide manuals, and a collection of supplications to assist them throughout their Hajj. Ongoing Dhul-Hijjah Campaign in Mosques In conjunction with the arrival of the month of Dhul-Hijjah, the department is currently implementing an intensive awareness campaign across all mosques in the Emirate. The campaign includes lessons and lectures on the virtues of the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, the merit of fasting on the Day of Arafah, and the religious and health-related rulings and conditions of Udhiyah. These efforts are part of the department's ongoing mission to enhance religious awareness and promote Islamic values within the community. Commitment to Religious Guidance The department affirmed that its awareness programmes stem from its commitment to serving the pilgrims, ensuring a safe and Sharia-compliant journey, and enhancing the public's religious awareness during these blessed days. Through its mosque-based lessons and lectures, the department seeks to instill the virtues of these great days and clarify the rulings of sacrifice in a way that benefits the entire community.
