Pop star baby names from this decade are making a comeback
The '90s babies are having babies — and it shows. BabyCenter's new data revealed baby name trends for 2025 so far, and parents are looking to the 1990s for baby name inspiration, tapping into the nostalgia factor of their favorite pop stars and even their childhood peers. Britney and Shania are topping charts again — the baby name charts. Britney is up more than 1,200 spots, coming in at No. 3,958, and Shania rose more than 800 spots, now at No. 1,915. Sabrina, as in the teenage witch, rose 19 spots to No. 323, while names that were running around the playground with you, like Kelsey and Briana, are making a comeback, at No. 804 and No. 1,122, respectively. The people's princess can't be forgotten either: Diana has risen 39 spots to No. 293. 4 Parents are looking to the 1990s for baby name inspiration. nataliaderiabina – The '90s aren't the only trend parents are looking to for baby name inspiration. Loud luxury is in, and with shows like 'White Lotus' on-air, parents are inspired to name their kids something luxurious. For girls, Tiffany and Bentley have risen to No. 822 and No. 2,035, respectively, and Emerald has risen 86 spots to No. 544. For boys, Manolo, like Blanik, and Laurent, like Yves Saint Laurent, are up to No. 1,903 and No. 6,518. Cash is also up 11 spots to No. 314. Lux — literally like luxury — is up for both boys and girls, up 110 spots to No. 1,202 for boys and 401 spots No. 2,370 for girls. Celebrities are looking to golden names, too, literally. Patrick and Brittany Mahomes named their daughter Golden earlier this year, and people took notice. Anora didn't just sweep the Oscars this year, the name has jumped up 1,105 spots for girls so far, ranking at No. 2,291. After Adrien Brody won best actor for his role in 'The Brutalist' and Kieran Culkin won best supporting actor for his role in 'A Real Pain,' their names also started rising. Adrien is up 206 spots to No. 1,132, and Kieran has risen 48 spots to No. 488. And the success of 'Wicked' didn't go unnoticed by parents. Cynthia, like Erivo, got its chance to fly, rising 204 spots to No. 1,089. 4 New parents would like to thank the Academy, with Oscar-winning names rising in 2025. Prostock-studio – Bird names are flying, too, which perhaps is due to Cameron Diaz naming her baby Cardinal last year. Robin is soaring as a gender-neutral name, moving up 274 spots to No. 987 for girls and 97 spots to No. 960 for boys. Meanwhile, Raven has risen 39 spots to No. 241, and Mavis is up 17 spots to No. 496. Dove is having a moment as well, with former Disney Channel star Dove Cameron releasing an album this year. The Brief Names like Sabrina, Britney, and Shania are climbing the charts, reflecting a wave of nostalgia among today's parents. Names tied to brands and wealth, like Tiffany, Bentley, Lux, and Cash, are also trending up for boys and girls. Bird names like Raven and Dove are rising, along with film-inspired names like Anora and Cynthia following the 2025 Oscars. From birds to movies to the '90s generation, a lot of things are influencing 2025 baby names. BabyCenter gathered baby names from hundreds of thousands of parents who register their babies' names on the BabyCenter app. The parenting company found that '90s girls' names are back in style. By the numbers BabyCenter revealed that Sabrina is having a moment, rising 19 spots to No. 323. Nineties chart-toppers Britney and Shania are also on the rise again at No. 3,958 (up more than 1,200 spots) and No. 1,915 (up more than 800 spots), respectively. Kelsey, Briana and Diana are making their way back up the ranks, too. The data found that parents are also looking to luxury brands for baby name inspiration. For boys, Callum – which comes from the Latin word for dove – has risen 21 spots and Jay is up 41 spots. Dig deeper Dove gets a special mention, too: It's been on an upward trajectory ever since Disney Channel star Dove Cameron had her breakout roles in the show Liv and Maddie in 2013. This year, she's releasing a new album – and her name has risen 717 spots. Actress Cameron Diaz also named her daughter Cardinal last year. The name Anora has jumped up 1,105 spots for girls so far this year, ranking No. 2,291. Meanwhile, the only new name on the girls' top name list was "Sofia," which knocked "Luna" out of the ranking. "Luna" dropped to the No. 13 spot. One of our go-to retailers for dresses is Reformation — and we're not alone. The Cool Girl-approved brand counts Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker and Taylor Swift as fans, and their dresses are perfect for keeping you looking effortlessly cute during a heat wave. Ahead, we put three summer dresses from Reformation to the test. Read on to see how we styled them, as well as to read our honest reviews. $318 at Reformation What I like about it: Picture this. It's summer 1997. I am doing a rousing performance of "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?" by Shania Twain on my parents' back deck. I'm wearing my "Shania outfit" — a denim shift dress combined with cowboy boots and a hat from the thrift store. Life is good. This simple dress delivers far more than nostalgia. It's surprisingly lightweight and airy, which is always a chief concern in summer (especially when it comes to denim). While the A-line mini shape is simple, the square neckline and plunging back add some extra drama. How I'll style it: I know I'll be pairing this with sneakers and a cute backpack for summer weekends, but I can also see it dressed up for cocktails with a belt and sandals. Room for improvement: The fit of this isn't for everyone — I'd suggest bigger-chested gals steer clear of this one and go for something like the Balia Denim Midi Dress. I would also love if it had pockets! Overall rating: 4.5/5 — Hilary Hagerman, Lifestyle & Shopping Managing Editor $428 at Reformation What I like about it: I'm all for a chic silhouette, and it's safe to say this maxi dress nails it. It's fitted in all the right places without feeling overly tight or restrictive on my body, and the A-line skirt adds the right amount of movement and shape to make it both flattering and breezy. It's simple enough to be a staple, and the subtle eyelet detail at the bottom hem adds just enough interest without doing too much. And with removable straps, it doubles as a strapless number — versatile, right? It's like a 2-for-1, and I'm so here for it. How I'll style it: I'm a huge fan of frocks that can be dressed up or down, and this one does both effortlessly. I imagine slipping it on with a sleek clutch and delicate kitten heels for a more polished look. On the other hand, it would be cute paired with some Mary Jane flats and a small shoulder bag when I'm in the mood for a relaxed-yet-stylish vibe. Room for improvement: I love that this dress gives the option to go strapless, but personally, I'd prefer thicker straps over the removable ones. Also, if you're on the shorter side, I'd make sure the length works for you, as it might be a little long. Overall rating: 4/5 — Melina Brum, Shopping Editor $398 at Reformation What I like about it: If you're in the market for a va-va-voom dress, Reformation's Balia Linen Dress is it. On a recent night out, I shared the above photo in a group chat, and the girls couldn't get enough of the linen midi dress. The comments (from some very supportive friends) included: "Omg. That is stunning," "This dress is insane on you," and "Please, can I borrow it?" Reformation's Balia Linen Dress gives waist. It gives bust. It snatches and it conceals. I've already worn it on cheeky nights out and now that the weather has warmed up, my colleagues are sure to see me wear it to the office. I'm obsessed and would get it in every colour if I could. How I'll style it: I am a ballet flat girl more often than not (catch me walking everywhere), so realistically, that's what I will be styling the Balia Linen Dress with (the heels you see above came off about two seconds after this photo was taken). If you are stronger than I am, the linen midi would look so chic with a pair of strappy-heeled sandals, but I think a shoe like these Suzanne Ballet Flats fit the bill nicely. Room for improvement: My only gripe with Reformation dresses, the Balia Linen Dress included, is that so few of them have adjustable straps. Not to be hyperbolic, but I have been obsessed with Shania Twain since I came out of the womb. I knew the lyrics to "That Don't Impress Me Much" before I learned our national anthem, and to this day, I think "Honey, I'm Home" could awaken me from a medically induced coma. Shania Twain is a Canadian national treasure and someone I trust far too much for having never met. Through Shania, I have learned two important things: head-to-toe leopard print is iconic, and the beauty secret to surviving harsh dry weather is Vermont's Original Bag Balm. The 59-year-old has been a decades-long devotee of the moisturizing balm. In 1999, Shania mentioned Bag Balm in an interview with The London Telegraph, saying, "When I've been flying a lot and my skin is really dry, I'll rub it over my face and on my hair and leave it there all day." Shania Twin has called this 126-year-old jelly the "best of all things." More recently, in an interview with Us Weekly, the Canadian country music star called the balm "the best of all things."
