78 days till the Arizona Cardinals' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No. 78?
With 78 days till the Cardinals open the season against the Saints, we look at the players who have worn No. 78. We are counting down to the start of the 2025 regular season for the Arizona Cardinals and are now less than 12 weeks away. They will open the season on the road against the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 7. That is 78 days away. As we count down the remaining days of the offseason, let's look at who has worn that number uniform over the years for the Cardinals. Who has worn No. 78? Cardinals players to wear No. 78 Undrafted rookie tackle Josh Fryar is the Cardinals player currently wearing No. 78. That number hasn't been worn in a few years. Freddie Joe Nunn wore multiple numbers and was one of the best pass rushers the Cardinals have had since the late 80s. Yankowski was a good pass rusher for a decade for the Cardinals. Sacks were not an official stat in the 70s, but Pro Football Reference credits him with 30 in his career. Perhaps at some point again, the Cardinals will find another impact No. 78. Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Wilson believes the hype surrounding CB Will Johnson
Wilson sees a rookie who is dead serious about football and will live up to the hype. While he was on the Arizona Cardinals' first selection in the 2025 NFL draft, cornerback Will Johnson might be the rookie that fans are most excited to see. He was selected in the second round, taken 47th overall after he was expected to be drafted in the first round, and in some projections he was going in the top 10. But it isn't just fans who are excited to see what Johnson can do as a rookie. Teammates are, too. Receiver Michael Wilson is one of them. He raved about Johnson when he appeared on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM during minicamp. "Yeah, he looks focused," Wilson said of Johnson. "When certain guys step in a locker room or step on a field, you can tell if someone's dead serious about football. And I think he's one of those guys that lives, breathes, and dies football. "I think he's going to be somebody who lives up to the hype of the pick where he was taken. I think, going into last year, you saw people were saying he should have been a top 10 pick or was projected to a top 10 pick and then had the injury situation, whatever. I don't know. I'm not educated on all that, but I know he fell in the draft because of injury and stuff. So I think he's going to be a special player." Wilson will likely see a lot of reps against Johnson in training camp starting at the end of July. If Wilson is excited about what Johnson can be, that is something to pay attention. NFL top 100 rankings: Arizona Cardinals TE Trey McBride comes in at No. 42
Pete Prisco ranked the top 100 players of 2025 in the NFL. Only Trey McBride makes the list for the Cardinals. Every offseason, we see player rankings — top 100, top 101, top 50, whatever. Every year, we see where Arizona Cardinals players land. CBS Sports' Pete Prisco gave his top 100 list entering the 2025 season. Only one Cardinals player made the list — not Budda Baker, not James Conner. The only Cardinal to make the top 100 was tight end Trey McBride, coming in at No. 42, moving up from No. 83 a year ago. McBride finished fourth in the league with 111 catches in his breakout season. He had just two touchdown catches, which is a number that will go up this season ... count on it. McBride 100% should be on this list. He has entered the conversation as being the best tight end in the NFL. It is true that his two touchdown catches were simply fluky. He did rush for a touchdown and score once on a fumble recovery in the end zone. He was a frequent target in the red zone, but because of a couple of drops and a couple of missed throws by quarterback Kyler Murray, he didn't end up with six to eight touchdown grabs. Of course, while McBride is an easy choice for this list, two Cardinals players are notably snubbed — Baker and Conner. Baker continues to play at an elite level at safety and gets Pro Bowl nods year after year, a sign that coaches and players respect and value him. Conner's absence is disappointing because he produces among the best running backs, reaching nearly 1,100 yards last season and continuing to be a big-play runner as he advances in his career. Looking ahead to next offseason, hopefully McBride isn't alone. It would be good to see McBride, Baker, Conner, quarterback Kyler Murray and receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. in Prisco's rankings in 2026. NFL QB rankings: Arizona Cardinals face 7 borderline stars or better in 2025
The Cardinals will face 14 different starting quarterbacks in 2025. See where they rank. As we have reached the point of the offseason where content is mostly reduced to lists and rankings, we have some quarterback rankings/tiers from CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin. We have looked at Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray and the tiers where he and fellow NFC West quarterbacks fall, but now we want to look at the Cardinals' opponents. These are the tiers: The Cardinals face a healthy dose of the lowest tiers. Let's have a look. Tier 6 opponent QBs for Cardinals Seven quarterbacks total are in this tier. The Cardinals face four of them. Tier 5: Prized projects Ward is the one rookie quarterback with real promise. The Cardinals will face him early in the season. Tier 4: Volatile veterans Kyler Murray falls into this tier, too. Tier 2: Borderline stars The Cardinals will not face any of the four rising stars in Bo Nix, Drake Maye, J.J. McCarthy and Caleb Williams, so we move to the very good group. Tier 1: Transcendent talents Six quarterbacks make this list. The Cardinals only have to face one: Get more Cardinals and NFL coverage from Cards Wire's Jess Root and others by listening to the latest on the Rise Up, See Red podcast. NFC West quarterbacks fall into 2 tiers entering 2025
Find out where CBS Sports puts Matthew Stafford, Brock Purdy, Kyler Murray and Sam Darnold in their 2025 QB tiers. The NFL is done with all offseason work and it is the time of year where we get lists and rankings of all sorts. CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin ranked and tiered all 32 projected starting quarterbacks for 2025. The tiers? Arizona Cardinals fans will have interest in seeing where the quarterbacks in the NFC West fall? While we did focus on Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray already, let's see about all four starters in the division. NFC West quarterback tiers The four starters in the division fall into two categories: Borderline stars Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams and Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers fall here, and they are fairly tiered. Stafford has been elite talent for much of his career, but now he is a little less consistent and needs his playmakers to do more, while Purdy, after MVP-type production, saw his play level out after he missed top offensive players. Volatile veterans Murray probably should be up in the borderline star tier, but he hasn't looked like that since 2021. He isn't necessarily volatile because, at his worst, he plays at a league-average level. Seattle's Sam Darnold is the face of volatile veteran. While his 2024 season showed the level of play he could reach when he was drafted third overall in 2018, he has been wildly inconsistent in his career, prone to turnovers. he won't have the weapons he had in Minnesota, so he will have to prove himself again with the Seahawks.
