First Bus scores big win at Scottish Transport Awards 2025
The achievement, which First Bus were presented with at the Scottish Transport Awards in Glasgow, celebrates the performance of First Bus across Greater Glasgow and Aberdeen over the last year. The award was open to Scottish bus, rail, tram and ferry operators. Its investment in zero-emission buses and infrastructure was also commended as the operator continues its commitment to running a fully zero-emission fleet by 2035 with over 270 zero-emission buses in operation across Greater Glasgow and Aberdeen. The operator also collected a second award on the night for Excellence in Technology and Innovation, receiving recognition for its use of AI-driven timetables to improve reliability for customers on its services across Scotland. First Bus used the new timetables on over 60 services in the last 12 months to improve their performance, which led to several routes experiencing improvements in punctuality by over 30% as a result. Scottish Transport Awards – Edinburgh's newest active travel link declared a winner
The City of Edinburgh Council has been awarded Excellence in Transport Design at the Scottish Transport Awards 2025 for the Roseburn to Union Canal Active Travel Route which opened recently. This corridor has transformed local connectivity, public space and access to nature with an off road path for walking wheeling and cycling. Lothian Buses and Police Scotland were also recognised for Excellence in Social and Community Value for Operation Crackle, a joint initiative tackling antisocial behaviour and promoting safer public transport. The 22nd annual awards ceremony was held on Thursday evening at the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow. The ceremony celebrated the best of transport operators, infrastructure specialists, frontline workers and local authorities in Scotland. Cabinet Secretary for Transport Fiona Hyslop MSP delivered the keynote address and presented the Transport Team / Partnership of the Year award. The Minister said: 'It was an honour to speak at the Scottish Transport Awards tonight (June 19th) and to meet so many of the sector's major players and unsung heroes. 'I particularly enjoyed handing out the 'Team of the Year' award, and speaking to people who are working so hard behind the scenes, day in, day out, to keep Scotland moving. 'This was my third Scottish Transport Awards, and I was able to reflect on the progress being made across the nation on so many impressive projects and initiatives. 'However, there is still so much to do. I want us to build on that momentum to deliver lasting change by working together on our key ambitions and priorities. 'Well done everyone on such a fitting occasion to celebrate your success.' The 13 new destinations Glasgow Airport is flying to in 2025
After being crowned Airport of the Year at the Scottish Transport Awards in 2024, Glasgow Airport is set to expand its offering for passengers. According to Glasgow World, the new destinations include cities in Spain, Italy, and the US. READ MORE: Glasgow set to enjoy Mediterranean temperatures this week Passengers can head to Murcia via flights to Alicante Airport from Glasgow, with year-round city breaks available for Summer 2025, Winter 2025/26, and Summer 2026. Responding to the rising demand for winter sports combined with city breaks, Jet2CityBreaks has launched packages from Glasgow Airport to Geneva for Winter 2025/26. Global Airlines is introducing a service from Glasgow Airport to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. The inaugural flight is set to take off on Thursday, May 15, with the return leg landing in Glasgow on Monday, May 19. Jet2 is expanding its Winter Sun programme from Glasgow Airport, adding more flights to Malaga in November 2025 and weekend flights over Christmas and New Year. In response to strong demand for its Christmas Markets programme, Jet2 is adding more flights to Budapest from November 21 to December 22, 2025, extending the season to the Hungarian capital. Extra Monday and Friday services will be available during this period from Glasgow Airport. Passengers can fly to Antalya from Glasgow Airport with easyJet, with flights taking off on June 4, 2025, and operating every Wednesday and Saturday throughout the summer. Jet2 has announced direct flights from Glasgow to Rome as part of its Winter City Breaks programme in 2025. Flights to the Catalan city of Reus, known for its beautiful architecture and rich history, will launch on June 2, 2025, from Glasgow Airport and will operate every Monday and Friday by easyJet. Ryanair has announced that its seventh route from Glasgow Airport will be to Malta from April 1, 2025, with a twice-weekly service on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Jet2 will operate two weekly services (Wednesday and Sunday) to Reykjavik from October 8 to October 26, 2025, with flights timed for the October break. Jet2 will also be running two weekly flights to the Czech capital, Prague, in 2025. The new routes are aimed at providing more options for travellers, catering to both holidaymakers and those on business trips. The airport's expansion comes after a successful year, where millions of passengers passed through its gates, contributing to its accolade as Airport of the Year. With these new destinations, Glasgow Airport continues to strengthen its position as a key hub for international travel in Scotland, offering a broader range of options for its passengers.
