The Jambos have been on a busy recruitment drive ahead of their Premier Sports Cup fixtures beginning in July. They now know the path they must walk if they are to reclaim the third spot they won in 2024, which was won by Hibs in the 24/25 campaign after a strong first term under David Gray. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad His side have Europa League qualification clashes against FC Midtjylland to come in July, before attentions then turn to a busy start to the domestic action. One of the first fixtures Hearts and Hibs fans will look for on the calendar is the Edinburgh derby so what are the details when it comes to derby day in the capital this coming season? Look no further than our guide. When are the Edinburgh derbies during Premiership season 25/26? The first Edinburgh derby of the season takes place at Tynecastle on October 4th. The second is December 27th at Easter Road and the final one pre split is February 11th at Tynecastle. Ties will be subject to change based on possible TV scheduling, How could the amount of Edinburgh derby matches double? Last season, there were only three clashes in the league between Hearts and Hibs due to the former being in the bottom six, and roles reversed in term 23/24. It doesn't happen very often but there is a scenario where a total of six derbies could play out. An additional Premiership battle could be added if both sides finish in the top or bottom six together, while they could also meet in the Premier Sports Cup, with Hibs entering at the round of 16. A Scottish Cup meeting could also beckon depending on the draw. Who ruled the Edinburgh derby last season? It was Hibs who had the bragging rights in the 24/25 season. Both teams were toiling near the foot of the table when they first drew in October but Hibs then won the festive edition of the fixture at Tynecastle. Their most recent clash was a 2-1 Hibs win at Easter Road thanks to a Jack Iredale goal that eventually won goal of the season for his looping long range strike over Craig Gordon. You could see by everyone's reaction that they didn't really expect it from me, so that's why it holds more weight. I've been trying to replicate it in training and none of them have come off yet." And on the prospect of securing third spot this season, the defender added: "I'm confident in the team. Playing in Europe is any player's dream. It's definitely something we want to achieve in the dressing room."

Date of first Rangers v Celtic Old Firm derby of 2025/26 season plus FULL Premiership fixture list for every club
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THE fixtures have just dropped for the new Scottish Premiership season - and there's a televised clash of TWO new bosses on the league's opening day. Russell Martin takes his Rangers team to take on Jens Berthel Askou's new look Motherwell side at 5.30pm on the opening day (Saturday August 2) as they bid to establish an early lead on the Hoops. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 5 New Rangers head coach Russell Martin 5 Brendan Rodgers is bidding for a third successive title It's the first domestic test of the new Gers gaffer as the Andrew Cavenagh/49ers Enterprises era gets under way, although both legs of their Champions League opener against Panathinaikos will have been played by then. Then it's over to TWO Champions on the Sunday - with Championship winners Falkirk hosting Dundee Utd and Celtic hosting their flag day against St Mirren, both live on TV. But with the English Premier League yet to get under way, there's a whopping FOUR televised matches on that opening weekend, with Derek McInnes' Hearts taking on his former team Aberdeen for the cameras on the Monday night. Rangers' first home match of the season comes the following weekend, with a 5.45pm kick off at Ibrox against Dundee. That's followed by Celtic visiting Aberdeen for a 12.30pm start on the Sunday as Brendan Rodgers' men seek revenge for their Scottish Cup final defeat. There's just one more matchweek to go before these two Old Firm foes are pitched into their first showdown of the season - with Gers facing a tricky trip to Paisley. And this year of course it's Rangers who get the privilege of hosting the first Glasgow grudge match of the season, with Russell Martin's first taste of Scotland's biggest fixture coming on Sunday August 31 with a 12.30pm kick off. It's worth noting that both teams are likely to be coming off gruelling second leg playoff clashes the midweek before, with Celtic in action on either the Tuesday or the Wednesday and Rangers hoping they will reach that stage of the Champions League too. Dundee Utd will make the shortest walk in football to visit their city rivals for the first Dundee derby of the season a day before that (August 30) with the first Edinburgh derby not until October 4 at Tynecastle. The derby fun is spread over the festive period, with Hibs hosting Hearts at 12.30pm on the 27th of December. Celtic transfer special - Nygren in and Kyogo to return As for the remaining Glasgow grudge matches, Celtic host the New Year's game on January 3, meaning there's time for both teams to parachute in some early January signings for the big one. Rangers host the final pre-split Old Firm clash, with the date for the match currently given as February 28 at Ibrox. As last year, the introduction of the new European group phases means there's no chance for a winter break. However, that didn't stop the footie ace from enjoying the sunshine with 27-year-old Luke.
