Brooklyn Nets jersey history No. 17 - Dennis Schroder (2024)

Brooklyn Nets jersey history No. 17 - Dennis Schroder (2024) The Brooklyn Nets have 52 jersey numbers worn by over 600 different players over the course of their history since the franchise was founded in 1967 as a charter member of the American Basketball Association (ABA), when the team was known as the "New Jersey Americans". Since then, that league has been absorbed by the NBA with the team that would later become the New York Nets and New Jersey Nets before settling on the name by which they are known today, bringing their rich player and jersey history with them to the league of today. To commemorate the players who played for the Nets over the decades wearing those 52 different jersey numbers, Nets Wire is covering the entire history of the franchise's jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. The 19th of those 52 different numbers is jersey No. 17, which has has had a total of seven players wear the number in the history of the team. The seventh of those players wearing No. 17 played in the Brooklyn Nets era, guard alum Dennis Schroder. After starting his pro career abroad, Schroder was picked up with the 17th overall selection of the 2013 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks. The Braunschweig, Germany native would also have stints with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Lakers again, and Toronto Raptors before he was dealt to Brooklyn in 2024. His stay with the team would span parts of two seasons before he was dealt to the Golden State Warriors shortly before the end of the year. During his time suiting up for the Nets, Schroder wore only jersey No. 17 and put up 16.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game. All stats and data courtesy of Basketball Reference.

Former Lakers, Celtics Player Named in Bucks Report

Former Lakers, Celtics Player Named in Bucks Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. All indications are that the Milwaukee Bucks are not making any seismic changes this offseason. In other words, two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo will stay put even after their playoff struggles for the last three years. Advertisement By extension, that means the Bucks will try to add some help. The Bucks face a tough task because Damian Lillard will likely be out for the entire season as he recovers from an Achilles tear. Milwaukee will turn to free agency to try to build a better team around Antetokounmpo. Milwaukee has smartly managed their cap situation well. Trading Khris Middleton for Kyle Kuzma, along with Brook Lopez's contract off their books, could allow them to sign a big name on the free agent market this offseason with the midlevel exception. Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis AntetokounmpoBenny Sieu-Imagn Images ESPN's Brian Windhorst revealed that among the Bucks' targets is former Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics guard Dennis Schroder. Windhorst outlined how the Bucks' cap situation could allow them to sign Schroder to an expensive deal rather than a veteran's minimum. Advertisement "Rival teams suspect the Bucks will end up in the tax but keep their payroll below the $196 million first apron, which would open their ability to access more of the $14 million midlevel exception," Windhorst wrote. "They might need a large chunk of it for a starting point guard in place of Lillard, with the candidates including free agents such as Dennis Schroder, Tyus Jones and Malcolm Brogdon." Schroder played for the Lakers twice, the first time during the 2020-21 season and the second during the 2022-23 season. Schroder played half of the 2021-22 season for the Celtics. He helped the Lakers much more than he did for the Celtics, as he helped them reach the Western Conference Finals in 2023. He is also coming off a season in which he helped the Detroit Pistons have their best season in years. Even if the Bucks make a bid for him, the Pistons may not let him go. Boston Celtics alum Jeff Teague on Isaiah Thomas, Dennis Schroder tiff in '16 playoffs

Long before he would join the Boston Celtics backcourt, vet guard Dennis Schroder once had himself quite the encounter with Celtics fan favorite floor general Isaiah Thomas. Back when the King in the Fourth was still terrorizing Boston's opponents with his lightening-quick first step, IT and the Celtics collided with Schroder and the Atlanta Hawks in the 2016 NBA Playoffs. Another future Celtic on that roster (there were several former or future Boston players on the team as well, including a trio of Celtics big alumni Mike Muscala, Kris Humphries, and Al Horford), Jeff Teague, recently recounted on his "Club 520" podcast an altercation between Thomas and Schroder he just couldn't help but smile about in retrospect despite the on-court violence it entailed. Nets final grade for the 2024-25 NBA season

Nets final grade for the 2024-25 NBA season The Brooklyn Nets ended the 2024-25 NBA season with a 26-56 record and while that was the sixth-worst mark in the league, the Nets had a successful season in certain regards. Brooklyn entered the season projected to be one of the worst teams in the league and while they finished the season that way, it didn't look like that in the beginning as they were winning more games than expected. Through the first two months of the season, the Nets were 9-11, putting them on pace to finish the season slightly under .500 with a chance to make the playoffs given how much parity resides in the Eastern Conference. Much of the reason for Brooklyn playing that well was due to players like Cam Thomas, Dennis Schroder, and Cam Johnson leading the way in terms of scoring and facilitating. Schroder was the catalyst in particular due to how well he was playing to begin the season as he averaged 18.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game while shooting 44.1% from the field and 40.5% from three-point land. In what could be interpreted as general manager Sean Marks and company trying to preserve the chances of the team getting the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Schroder was traded to the Golden State Warriors at the earliest chance the team could on Dec. 15. December was the month where the season turned for the Nets in the positive direction with regards to the team recommitting to the rebuild as Brooklyn finished the month with a 3-9 record. To further ensure that the Nets would not be too competitive moving forward, Marks traded Dorian Finney-Smith to the Los Angeles Lakers on Dec. 29 in exchange for D'Angelo Russell and Maxwell Lewis, both players having some good moments with the team this season. From January on, Brooklyn did not finish with a winning record except in February when the team finished with a 6-5 record, but played just 11 games due to the All-Star Game being played within the month. With Thomas playing just 25 games during the season, Brooklyn was without its leading scorer for the majority of the season and that played into the Nets losing more games while also being able to give players like Keon Johnson more playing time as well. Along the way, the Nets were able to evaluate some of the younger talent on the team while also seeing players like Johnson, Thomas, and Trendon Watford have career-years due to the coaching of rookie head coach Jordi Fernandez. In a season where player development and evaluation was the key, Brooklyn did not meet those standards in certain regards with players like Noah Clowney and Dariq Whitehead not showing much improvement. Ultimately, the season was a successful one for the Nets as they know that they have a good head coach in Fernandez while seeing some players have some of the best years of their career. However, there aren't many players that the team aren't sure of heading into the future and with four first-round picks and the most projected cap space in the league, Brooklyn could look significantly different next season. Grade: B
