A Place in the Sun star Scarlette Douglas was meant to be on plane which crashed and killed her friend

Former I'm A Celebrity star Scarlette opened up about her fear of flying after she was supposed to be on the doomed Air France flight. A Place in the Sun host Scarlette Douglas has admitted that she "hates flying" because she was supposed to be on a doomed plane which crashed and killed more than 200 people. Despite hosting the popular travel show, Scarlette revealed that she really dislikes air travel after her friend died when Air France Flight 447 crashed into the mid-Atlantic Ocean in June 2009. All 228 people onboard, including Scarlette's friend, lost their lives in the tragedy. According to The Mirror, Scarlette was meant to be on the Airbus A330 after her friend booked both their seats. ‌ However, the presenter had a job in Hollywood so didn't travel in the end. ‌ Scarlette, who appeared on I'm A Celebrity in in 2022, made the heartbreaking admission at the Taste of London Food Festival opening party in Regent's Park this week. Speaking to a Daily Mail reporter, she said: "I lost a really good friend of mine in the Air France crash from Brazil to France. The scary thing was I was supposed to be on that flight. She had booked it." Scarlette says she "hates flying" as a result, which proved a challenge for her role on A Place in the Sun. She hosted the programme and its various spin-offs between 2015 and 2022, before her I'm a Celeb stint. The star was asked about flying in the wake of the Air India plane crash, which saw all but one of those onboard the Boeing die in a horror crash. A total of 53 Brits were killed after the plane, destined for Gatwick Airport, collided into a medical college in Ahmedabad, western India. Although the investigation into the crash continues, an aviation expert has claimed the co-pilot pulled the plane's wing flaps instead of retracting the landing gear moments after take-off. ‌ But inconsistent airspeed indications and miscommunication led to the pilots inadvertently stalling the doomed Air France plane, on which Scarlette's friend travelled in 2009. They failed to recover the plane from the stall, and the plane crashed into the mid-Atlantic Ocean. The investigation was hampered because the aircraft's flight recorders were not recovered from the ocean floor until May 2011, nearly two years after the accident. Eventually, the final - and conclusive - report by France's Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety (BEA) was published on July 2012. The majority of those onboard the four-year-old Airbus were Brazilians and French citizens. However, five tragic Brits died in the atrocity, including 11-year-old boy Alexander Bjoroy, oil worker Graham Gardner and PR executive Neil Warrior.

Former A Place in the Sun host Scarlette Douglas shares update on relationship status

Former 'A Place in the Sun' host Scarlette Douglas has given an update on her relationship status. The 38-year-old star - who left the Channel 4 international house-hunting show in 2022 - froze her eggs at the Harley Street Fertility Clinic in London last year, so she could take the "stress" and "pressure" off herself to strike up a romance and start a family before her "body clock gets old". Scarlette has now shared she is still single and is actively looking for "any eligible bachelors" that are "family-orientated" and "sporty". Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz at the 'Football For Peace - Rehydrate the Earth Gala' at the Nobu Hotel in London on Wednesday night (07.05.25), she said: "I'm a very career-driven woman, and I froze my eggs, especially for that reason; to focus on my career. "So I can do events like this where I'm here, I don't have any man telling me, 'You can't do that!' So, I guess I can do things on my terms. "Of course, I want a partner, but I'm not going to set on it if I don't have to. "For me, events like these are super important – not to say that if I had a partner, I wouldn't be able to do these – but right now, these are my favourites. So if I meet someone along the way, fantastic. If I don't, I'll just keep going. "I'm always looking – if anyone's here tonight, let me know! Any eligible bachelors?" However, Scarlette will need her Mr. Right to be "family-orientated" so he can "fit in well" with her mum Beverly, her dad Joe, her retired Luton Town F.C. striker brother Stuart, and her other brother Andrew. Asked what the key to her heart is, Scarlette revealed: "I think someone who's family-orientated. I've got so much love for my family. All my family are here today – my mum, my dad, my brothers – so I'll have to have someone who can fit in well and be sporty, as well." Scarlette - who co-fronted Channel 4's 'Worst House on the Street' with her brother Stuart - spent nearly two weeks at the Harley Street Fertility Clinic undergoing the "£5910 give or take" procedure to freeze her eggs. Scarlette was initially reluctant to share that she was undergoing the procedure with her social media following because of "backlash", but she is so glad to have told her fans about doing it because she has helped "five people" to freeze their eggs. She admitted: "When you talk about things on social media, there's always a backlash, and I did initially; I did get some people saying, 'Why are you talking about it?' "But, I had so many amazing comments that people were sending out to me, saying, 'Thank you so much,' on it and off the back of it. "I already know five people that have frozen their eggs. So if I can help just one person, that's the most important thing for me." And Scarlette added that her supportive fans got her through the procedure. She said: "And having the support of my fans really helped get me through it, as well. So, for me, it was great."

Worst House On The Street viewers blast hosts for 'utter nonsense' advice - swiping 'I wouldn't let them into my home' after attack on property 'which looked fine in the first place'

Worst House On The Street viewers blasted the hosts for their 'utter nonsense' advice and swiped 'I wouldn't let them into my home' after the latest episode. Wednesday's instalment of the Channel 4 property renovation show featured Lianne, who lived with her brother, sister-in-law and father from Leicester. Lianne and her father hoped to move into another home and out of the newlywed couple's house, but wanted help sprucing it up first. Expert Stuart Douglas said: 'Their house isn't as ancient as the castle, but it is a 1950s house.' His sister, Scarlette, added: 'Correct, it's old. It needs a lot of work.' Host Scarlette went on: 'This is the 1950s shabby looking detached three-bed house on the outskirts of Leicester that's in desperately need of our help. 'It has plenty of potential but right now it's tired, dated, and bringing the street down.' However, some viewers took issue with the pair's advice and felt the house didn't need too much work. Many posted on X: 'I don't understand, it's hardly the worst house like they're saying, it looks fine from the outside and not unlike all the other houses.' 'No visible pendant in the dining room means rewire the house? Oh good lord, this pair! Utter nonsense. #worsthouseonthestreet.' 'These guys wanting everyone to believe a traditional house is ugly… I wouldn't walk past that house and think rah that house is rough, come on guys fix up!' 'They're struggling to make this house seem awful when it's not really that bad!' 'I wouldn't actually let Stuart and Scarlette in after that first visit with all their opinions about splashes of colour and doom talk.' 'These two professionals are awful. They don't give any real sound advice or help. And they try and force their opinion on people. It's not your home!' However, some viewers took issue with the pair's advice and felt the house didn't need too much work Lianne had purchased the house for £212,000 a few years ago and had £25,000 spare to renovate it. During the episode, Douglas and Scarlette shared tips on how to up-cycle items and other budget-friendly techniques. In the end, they managed to complete the transformation within budget and the value of the property increased to £292,000. Worst House On The Street airs on Channel 4 and is available to stream on
