Tribal, rural districts show strong enthusiasm in yoga events

Visakhapatnam: Of the two crore registrations targeted by Andhra Pradesh govt for the International Day of Yoga initiative, the state has already surpassed expectations with 2.4 crore registrations. Interestingly, tribal districts and those with predominantly rural populations have shown a strong interest in the event. For instance, Parvathipuram-Manyam district recorded 5.45 lakh registrations against a target of 3.9 lakh, achieving 140%, the highest among all districts. Similarly, Annamayya, Vizianagaram, and Alluri Sitharama Raju districts each achieved over 120% of their targets, ranking as the next top three after Parvathipuram-Manyam. All 26 districts have exceeded their targets by at least 1%. Beyond registrations, events conducted across these districts, from villages to district headquarters, witnessed strong enthusiasm and widespread public participation. The month-long Yogandhra campaign helped extend the reach of the Yoga Day event planned in Visakhapatnam to nearly every part of the state. In terms of district-wise venue registration, Annamayya, Anakapalli, Bapatla, Nellore, Vizianagaram, and East Godavari onboarded more venues than targeted. In contrast, urban-dominated Visakhapatnam district lagged behind, falling at least 25% short of its venue registration target. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo During the Yogandhra campaign, participation across venues showcased extensive community engagement and a robust statewide mobilisation effort. These mandal events served as a crucial bridge between smaller communities and broader district-level activities, ensuring diverse local voices contributed meaningfully. District-level events further strengthened this collective effort, with all 26 scheduled competitions held and 9,826 participants actively engaged. Health minister Satya Kumar Yadav said the main aim behind the conduct of these events is to transform AP into a healthier state. "The state govt treated this as a prestigious initiative. Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu propelled the yoga movement forward by spreading awareness about its health benefits. The grassroots activities held over the past month were instrumental in bringing the essence of yoga and wellness directly into local communities, besides fostering inclusivity and regional pride. This structured, multi-tiered approach not only delivered organisational excellence but also reinforced cultural heritage and collective solidarity across the state. By engaging participants from the most remote villages to the larger districts, the campaign demonstrated its far-reaching impact and unwavering commitment to health, unity, and the rich traditions of Andhra Pradesh," Yadav said. "The 11th edition of the event is being celebrated with the theme, 'One Earth, One Health'. Yoga is a continuous way of life, encompassing not just physical postures but also mental practices like meditation. India's commitment is to global health, and Andhra Pradesh is fortunate to be the platform for this," the minister said, adding that the govt is working to take the yoga program to every home by conducting surveys and understanding the benefits and success stories of yoga.

Efforts to ensure better healthcare yielding positive results in Andhra Pradesh, says Health Minister Satya Kumar

The efforts to ensure better delivery of healthcare services to the public at their doorstep during the past one year have yielded positive results, according to Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav. In a five-page report submitted to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on the performance of the department, Mr. Satya Kumar, who had taken charge on June 16, 2024, said these efforts were reflected in increased accountability of those involved in the health sector, regular monitoring and quantification of performance at all levels. In the report that was submitted on June 16 and released to the media on Tuesday, the Minister wrote that at first, he had noticed high degree of absenteeism on the part of doctors, para-medical and other supporting staff, lack of accountability and performance. 'Much of these have seen improvement, including attendance, volume of outpatient and inpatient services, public perception about government hospitals,' he noted. The Minister reported to the Chief Minister about large-scale irregularities in governance, including recruitments, during the tenure of the previous government. To support his statement, he referred to the selection lists at the district level being prepared by some Ministers instead of by the Collectors concerned. 'Zero political interference' 'The present government has taken up recruitment of over 8,000 doctors and other health professionals during the last one year, with zero political interference and without any other considerations. Tenders for various works and procurement are being decided strictly as per stipulated procedure,' the Minister said. Mr. Satya Kumar said performance monitoring and incentivising good work had been given priority, while postings and transfers of District Medical and Health Officers, District Coordinators of Health Services, Superintendents of Government General Hospitals and principals of Government Medical Colleges had been done in an unbiased manner. Central funds 'The efforts have resulted in increased scale of sanction of funds and facilities,' he said. Listing them out, the Minister said the Centre had sanctioned 3,318 buildings for Ayushman Arogya Mandirs at a cost of ₹1,065 crore, 10 Critical Care Blocks, 13 Integrated Public Health Labs, ₹80 crore for AYUSH services, ₹90 crore for strengthening food quality testing laboratories, etc. The Minister added that the Central government also released ₹100 crore as Performance Incentive for effective implementation of National Health Mission (NHM) in the State. More needs to be done to realise 'Arogyandhrapradesh', Mr. Satya Kumar said.
