Ghost Becomes First Hard Rock Band to Top Albums Chart in Four Years
Ghost earns its first No. 1 album on the all-genre-inclusive Billboard 200 albums chart with 'Skeletá.' Their sixth studio album claims the biggest opening week, by either equivalent album units or traditional album sales, for any rock, hard rock or alternative album since AC/DC's 'Power Up' hit the apex with 117,000 equivalent album units in 2020. Preceded by the single 'Satanized,' the 10-song 'Skeletá' launches to the top of the list with 86,000 equivalent album units earned in the United States in the week, according to Luminate. It is the Swedish hard rock band's first full-length project since 2022's 'Impera,' which previously debuted at No. 2. Ghost Reigns on Rock Album Charts, Scores 9 Tracks on Hot Hard Rock Songs Tally With ‘Skeletá'
Ghost's Skeletá debuts atop a trio of Billboard rock albums charts, including the flagship Top Rock & Alternative Albums survey dated May 10. The full-length studio set earned 86,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week of availability (April 25-May 1), according to Luminate. Of that sum, 77,000 units are via traditional album sales. More from Billboard How Did Ghost Score Its First No. 1 Album on the Billboard 200 With 'Skeletá'? Kendrick Lamar Leads 2025 BET Awards Nominees With 10 Nods Prince Royce to Sing at TelevisaUnivision's Upfront in New York The bow of Skeletá atop Top Rock & Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums gives Ghost its fourth No. 1 on both, following the reigns of Impera (2022), Prequelle (2018) and the EP Popestar (2016). Additionally, its No. 1 on Top Hard Rock Albums is the band's seventh, with the aforementioned albums joined by 2024's Rite Here Right Now soundtrack, 2023's Phantomime EP and 2013's Infestissumam. With seven No. 1s on Top Hard Rock Albums, Ghost moves into a three-way tie for the third-most rulers since the ranking began in 2007, alongside Five Finger Death Punch and Foo Fighters. Most No. 1s, Top Hard Rock Albums: 9, Linkin Park 8, Pearl Jam 7, Five Finger Death Punch 7, Foo Fighters 7, Ghost 6, Disturbed 6, Korn 6, Nickelback As previously reported, Skeletá is Ghost's first No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 and the first hard rock release to top the ranking since AC/DC's Power Up in 2020. Concurrently, nine songs from Skeletá's 10-tune tracklist dot the multimetric Hot Hard Rock Songs chart, paced by 'Peacefield,' which rises 13-4 largely from 2.6 million official U.S. streams and 1,000 downloads. 'Lachryma' and 'Satanized' follow, moving 7-10 and holding at No. 11, respectively, though both songs boast higher peaks on the ranking so far — No. 3 ('Satanized' in March, 'Lachryma' in April). The week's top debut of the group, meanwhile, is 'Guiding Lights' at No. 15 (1.1 million streams). Lead single 'Satanized' returns to its previous best of No. 7 (rising one spot) on Mainstream Rock Airplay. Upon its entrance into the top 10, it became Ghost's 10th top 10 since first appearing on the tally in 2015, including five No. 1s. Ghost Earns First No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 With ‘Skeletá'
Ghost grabs the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200 albums chart for the first time, as the Swedish hard rock band's new studio effort Skeletá debuts atop the tally (dated May 10) with 86,000 equivalent album units earned in the United States in the week ending May 1, according to Luminate. Of the album's starting sum, 89% was driven by traditional album sales — buoyed by a big vinyl sales figure. Skeletá launches with Ghost's best week ever by both equivalent album units and traditional album sales. The band first visited the list in 2013 with its second album, Infestissumam, which also marked the act's first top 40-charting set, reaching No. 28. Skeletá scores Ghost its eighth top 40 set, and fifth to reach the top 10. The band had previously gone as high as No. 2 with its last full-length studio album, 2022's Impera. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new May 10, 2025-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard's website on May 6. For all chart news, follow @billboard and @billboardcharts on both X, formerly known as Twitter, and Instagram. Of Skeletá's 86,000 first-week equivalent album units, album sales comprise 77,000 (it debuts at No. 1 on Top Album Sales), SEA units comprise 9,000 (equaling 12.45 million on-demand official streams of the set's songs) and TEA units comprise a negligible sum. The set's first-week sales were bolstered by its availability across more than 15 vinyl variants, three CD variants and four cassette variants (all containing the same tracklist, but in collectible packaging). With Skeletá scoring 9,000 in SEA units (12.45 million on-demand official streams of the album's songs), the group logs its biggest streaming week ever for an album. It surpasses the opening-week of Impera (7,000 SEA; 9.11 million streams for its songs). The new album was led by the radio-promoted single 'Satanized,' which became the act's 10th top 10-charting hit on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart in April. It's one of a trio of hits that the album yielded on the Hot Hard Rock Songs chart prior to the album's release. 'Satanized' hit No. 3 (March 22 chart), followed by 'Lachryma' (No. 3, April 26) and 'Peacefield' (No. 13, May 3). (Skeletá is also the first full-length project from the band since the act garnered its first hit on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, when its viral hit 'Mary on a Cross' reached No. 90 on the tally in 2022.) With the No. 1 arrival on the Billboard 200, Skeletá lands a number of milestone achievements for Ghost. Here's a recap: Skeletá yields Ghost's best week ever by both equivalent album units and traditional album sales. The act's previous high in both metrics came in the debut week of Impera (March 26, 2022), which earned 70,000 units (of which nearly 63,000 were album sales). As noted earlier, Skeletá also garners the largest streaming week for a Ghost album. Ghost lands the biggest week of 2025, by either equivalent album units or traditional album sales, for any rock, hard rock or alternative album. Of Skeletá's first-week album sales, vinyl purchases comprised just over 44,000 copies. That's not just the largest sales week on vinyl for Ghost, but the biggest week for a hard rock album on vinyl in the modern era (since Luminate began tracking data in 1991). It's also the third-largest sales week on vinyl in the modern era for any rock album, trailing only the opening weeks of blink-182's One More Time… (49,000; 2023) and boygenius' The Record (45,000; 2023). Skeletá is the first hard rock album to lead the Billboard 200 in over four years, and the only rock, hard rock or alternative album to be No. 1 in 2025. The last hard rock album at No. 1 was AC/DC's Power Up, which premiered at No. 1 on the Nov. 28, 2020, chart and spent one week at No. 1. The last rock, or alternative, album to lead the tally was Coldplay's Moon Music, when it debuted at No. 1 on the Oct. 19, 2024, chart (spending one week at No. 1). Rock, alternative and hard rock albums are defined as those that are eligible for, or have charted on, Billboard's Top Rock Albums, Top Alternative Albums and Top Hard Rock Albums charts, respectively. Not only is Skeletá the group's first No. 1, but it's the first chart-topper for its label Loma Vista Recordings and the first leader for Concord Label Group in nearly a decade — since James Taylor's Before This World (on Concord Records) debuted at No. 1 on the July 4, 2015-dated chart. Loma Vista had previously gone as high as No. 2 with Ghost's last full-length studio album, Impera, in 2022. Skeletá is the lone debut in the top 10 of the latest Billboard 200 chart. The titles at Nos. 2-7 are all former No. 1s. SZA's SOS slips to No. 2 (52,000 equivalent album units earned; down 1%), Kendrick Lamar's GNX falls 2-3 (48,000; down 5%), Morgan Wallen's One Thing at a Time is down 3-4 (46,000; down 4%), Sabrina Carpenter's Short n' Sweet descends 4-5 (44,000; down 8%), PARTYNEXTDOOR and Drake's $ome $exy $ongs 4 U falls 5-6 (43,000; down 6%) and Bad Bunny's Debí Tirar Más Fotos is down 6-7 (38,000; down 3%). Shaboozey's Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going gallops 45-8 with 35,000 equivalent album units earned (up 110%) after a deluxe reissue on April 25 that added six additional songs, bringing its total song count to 18. The set debuted and peaked at No. 5 on the June 15, 2024-dated list. (He also played the Stagecoach Festival on April 26.) Playboi Carti's chart-topping MUSIC (7-9; 34,000 equivalent album units, down 11%) and Morgan Wallen's former leader Dangerous: The Double Album (9-10; 33,000, down 3%) round out the Billboard 200's top 10. Ghost And Sleep Token's 2025 LPs Could End Metal's Billboard Dry Spell
Not since Slipknot's 2022 Album, The End, So Far, has a metal or hardcore band landed a No.1 album on the US's Billboard Top 200 chart. With sensational acts Ghost and Sleep Token set to release their highly anticipated albums over the course of the next few weeks, it's likely that one or possibly both bands could put an end to this 3 year long streak. Over the last several years both masked outfits Ghost and Sleep Token have exponentially risen to the forefront of modern rock and metal. Each of the band's latest singles for their 2025 LPs, prove that the hype and sensationalism surrounding them is tangible – Sleep Token's latest single 'Caramel' reached No.1 on five Billboard rankings, and Ghost's recent single 'Satanized' debuted at No.4 on both Hot Hard Rock Songs and Hard Rock Digital Song Sales charts. In total Ghost has amassed over 20 million streams on Spotify between their two new singles, "Satanized" and 'Lachryma," and Sleep Token has reeled in a staggering 69 million streams between singles 'Caramel' and 'Emergence.' Ghost has achieved some incredible feats over the last decade from winning several Grammy awards to performing in front of sold-out arena's across the globe. That being said, they've still yet to land a No.1 charting album in the US. While their previous four albums charted at No.1 in their home country of Sweden, each album has also drastically outdone the previous in terms of its positioning on the US billboard chart – Ghost's last LP Impera (2022) charted at No.2 in the UK and the US marking the band's highest charting album to date. Ghost's sixth studio album Skeletá is set to release April 25th, and if their exponential growth continues with this album cycle it's more than likely that Skeletá will land the band its first No. 1 charting album. Sleep Token doesn't have the same charting history with their albums that Ghost does, which makes sense considering they're still a fairly new band. In fact, their first two LPs Sundowning (2019) and This Place Will Become Your Tomb (2021) didn't even breakthrough Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart. However, with their previous LP, 2022's Take Me Back To Eden, Sleep Token pierced through the zeitgeist and went from opening club shows to headlining arena's across the globe. Since then TMBTE has gone gold in the band's home country of England, and the hype and anticipation for their fourth studio album Even In Arcadia (due May 9th) is unlike any other rock or metal release set for this year. Considering how viral Sleep Token's latest two singles have been, with 'Emergence' even beating Selena Gomez for the No.1 spot on iTunes, Sleep Token's 2025 LP might have the strongest chance of reaching No.1 between the two bands. If charting metrics weren't enough, Sleep Token's upcoming North American arena tour completely sold out in a matter of days. For whatever reason, it seems that masked bands in metal music usually have the best odds at getting a No. 1 charting album, at least at some point during their career. Between Ghost and Sleep Token, neither band has yet achieved this feat but the hype surrounding the two is at an all time high. Based off the trends from both groups' previous releases and the charting success they've recently seen, you can count on either Ghost or Sleep Token (or both) ending the three year dry spell metal has had on Billboard's No.1 spot.

Ghost Unveil Papa V Perpetua and Debut New Songs at 2025 World Tour Kickoff
The post Ghost Unveil Papa V Perpetua and Debut New Songs at 2025 World Tour Kickoff appeared first on Consequence. Ghost kicked off their 'Skeletour World Tour 2025' on Tuesday (April 15th) in Manchester, England, playing a 21-song set that included the live debut of six tunes. The concert also marked the band's first show fronted by Papa V Perpetua. The Manchester gig launched a UK/European leg that runs through May 24th in Oslo, Norway. A US leg will commence on July 9th in Baltimore, and wrap up August 16th in Houston (pick up tickets here). Get Ghost Tickets Here The Swedish band is touring in support of its new album, SKELETÁ, which is set to arrive April 25th. In addition to performing the LP's previously released singles 'Satanized' and 'Lachryma' for the first time in concert, Ghost premiered the album's as-yet-unreleased songs 'Peacefield' and 'Umbra.' Another live debut, 'The Future Is a Foreign Land,' appeared on the soundtrack to the band's 2024 big-screen movie RITE HERE RITE NOW, while the song 'Darkness at the Heart of My Love' from 2022's IMPERA was also performed for the first time. The setlist leaned heavily on Ghost's 2015 album, MELIORA, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The band played seven songs from the LP, including favorites like 'Cirice' and 'From the Pinnacle to the Pit.' An encore consisted of three of Ghost's biggest tunes: 'Mary on a Cross,' 'Dance Macabre,' and the set-closing 'Square Hammer,' the latter of which Heavy Consequence named the top metal song of the 2010s. As mentioned, the show also marked the live debut of 'new' frontman Papa V Perpetua, as band mastermind Tobias Forge takes on a new identity with every album cycle. Ghost have instituted a strict no-filming policy for attendees on this tour, and as a result there isn't any footage of the show on YouTube. See the full setlist below.
