Prince and Family OTT Verdict: Box office, Twitter review of Dileep, Dhyan Sreenivasan's Malayalam comedy drama
Prince and Family hit JioHotstar on June 20 onwards, after completing a successful theatrical run. The movie is directed by a debutant filmmaker Binto Stephen and received mixed reviews at the time of its theatrical release. And now, within a day of its launch on OTT, social media has already been filled with reviews left by audiences who watched the film online. Here's how they felt about the movie. Prince and Family OTT verdict Well, a majority of viewers agreed that Prince and Family is a decent movie which can indeed be enjoyed with family and within a varied age group. The film's starting, as many have credited, was so well woven that none of the viewers were able to comprehend what was next in store for them. Nonetheless, there were still some traces of poor direction and disappointing writing in some quite evident places. Actor Dileep's performance was well-rounded and has been tagged as the driving force of the entire narrative. His perfect comic timing and charm attempted to outlive certain flaws like 'being cringey' and 'forced humor'. Other than him, many viewers felt that the remaining choice of cast appeared to be questionable since they did not put forth much of an effort for the joint appeal of the movie. The second half as per the audience was tedious and far-stretched, and any attempt at sending across a meaningful message was overridden. Absence of real humor and the use of outdated themes are some of the most common flaws pointed out by the netizens after watching Prince and Family on-screen. Prince and Family box office response Well, the movie appeared as the top performer in Kerala in terms of box office numbers, surpassing many Malayalam films which were released subsequently. Prince and Family outgrossed movies like Padakkalam and Sarkeet at the box office and grossed over Rs. 5.25 crore within just 5 days of release. Starring Mammootty as detective Dominic, the film is still awaiting its OTT premiere despite releasing in theatres in January. Shedding light on its captivating storyline, the film follows Dominic as Mohanlal unravels a complex case, leading to unexpected twists. Fans are eagerly waiting for its OTT release to experience the thrilling storyline. Get-Set Baby In Get-Set Baby, Unni Mukundan takes on the role of a male gynaecologist named Dr. Arjun Balakrishnan. Directed by Vinay Govind, the film follows Dr. Arjun's journey as he navigates challenges in his profession. Starring alongside Nikhila Vimal, Unni Mukundan's performance adds depth to the story. Prince & Family Kerala Box Office Day 13: Malayalam movie Prince & Family, starring Dileep in the lead role, is holding well at the box office. The movie met with positive word-of-mouth among the audience, thus registering an encouraging hold at the box office. Debuting with Rs 80 lakh on its opening day, the Binto Stephen-directed film has recorded a strong run so far and has performed better than its rival releases, Sarkeet and Padakkalam. Padakkalam Kerala Box Office Day 13: Supernatural comedy drama holds well; adds Rs 40 lakh on Tuesday
Padakkalam, starring Sandeep Pradeep, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Sharafudheen, and others, is doing well at the box office. The movie is performing better than Sarkeet but remains behind Prince & Family. Debuted with Rs 35 lakh on its opening day, the film wrapped its first weekend at Rs 2 crore gross and first week at Rs 3.95 crore. It added another Rs 2.25 crore to the tally, taking the 11-day cume to Rs 6.20 crore. As per estimates, the movie added Rs 40 lakh to the tally on Day 13 (2nd Tuesday), bringing the total cume to Rs 7.20 crore gross at the Kerala box office. Based on its trends, Padakkalam is expected to gross over Rs 10 crore to Rs 13 crore in its lifetime and end up being an average affair. Kerala Box Office: Asif Ali's Sarkeet to end poor theatrical run grossing JUST Rs 2.15 crore
Asif Ali is among the most prolific new-gen actors of Mollywood. The actor has delivered the kind of performances that would get every other actor of his generation to envy. His run before the release of Sarkeet was exceptional with both Kishkindha Kaandam and Rekhachithram emerging major blockbusters. Sarkeet has changed the tides in a way that no one could have imagined, and it is for the worse. Sarkeet, an intended feel-good drama, opened to a very poor number of Rs 35 lakh gross and the trend of the film has also not been too good. By the end of the 2nd weekend, the movie has amassed Rs 2.03 crore gross in Kerala and the lifetime run should end in the vicinity of Rs 2.15 crore or so. These numbers are much lower than what Asif Ali's previous two films Kishkindha Kaandam (41 crore) and Rekhachithram (27 crore) earned in the state. Sarkeet has been running parallely with two films that are doing reasonably well in the state, namely Prince And Family and Padakkalam. Not to forget, holdover release Thudarum is wrecking the Kerala box office like no one's business and is the number one film in the state since its release. With Rs 109 crore gross at the Kerala box office by the end of the 4th weekend, it is safe to assume that the Mohanlal starrer will become the first Indian film to breach the Rs 125 crore club in the state as well. Watch the Sarkeet Trailer Asif Ali will be analyzing all of his film Sarkeet's theatrical shortcomings when it drops on OTT in a little over two weeks. Sarkeet has not really been panned by those who watched. It is just not preferred over the other concurrently running films. From our analysis, we believe that audiences enjoy watching Asif Ali in thrillers more than any other genre. Mollywood audiences have yet again shown that while they can take a film to the highest of highs, they can also collectively ensure that a film sees a fate similar to Sarkeet, if they don't like it as much. They are generally indifferent about the actors performing and thus we see such contrasting collections of the same actor's films.
