PM flags off Patliputra-Gorakhpur Vande Bharat Express

Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday flagged off a new Vande Bharat Express through video conferencing from Siwan, connecting Patliputra Junction in Patna to Gorakhpur Junction in Uttar Pradesh. The Vande Bharat Express (26501/26502) departed on its maiden journey from Patliputra Junction at 1.07pm. The new train is expected to cover the 384 km route in seven hours. The train will operate six days a week, excluding Saturdays, said ECR's chief public relations officer (CPRO) Saraswati Chandra. To mark the occasion, students from Kendriya Vidyalayas and railway schools of Khagaul were given complimentary rides by the railways, he said. Among others present at the Patliputra Junction for the flag-off ceremony included former Union minister and Patna Sahib MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, former Patliputra MP Ram Kirpal Yadav, Bihar assembly speaker Nand Kishore Yadav, state road construction department minister Nitin Nabin, MLC Anamika Singh and several other senior railway officials, the CPRO said. According to Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM) Jayant Kumar Choudhary, the new Vande Bharat Express has the load composition of eight coaches with a total seating capacity of 1,130, offering both executive class (EC) and chair car (CC) options. The CPRO said the railways has fixed the EC fare from Gorakhpur to Kaptanganj (Rs 715), Gorakhpur to Bagaha (Rs 910), Gorakhpur to Narkatiaganj (Rs 1025), Gorakhpur to Bettiah (Rs 1170), Gorakhpur to Sagauli (Rs 1240), Gorakhpur to Bapudham Motihari (Rs 1310), Gorakhpur to Muzaffarpur (Rs 1565), Gorakhpur to Hajipur (Rs 1755) and Gorakhpur to Patliputra (Rs 1820). Similarly, in the CC the railways has fixed the fare from Gorakhpur to Kaptanganj Rs 380, Gorakhpur to Bagaha (Rs 470), Gorakhpur to Narkatiaganj (Rs 530), Gorakhpur to Bettiah (Rs 600), Gorakhpur to Sagauli (Rs 635), Gorakhpur to Bapudham Motihari (Rs 670), Gorakhpur to Muzaffarpur (Rs 790), Gorakhpur to Hajipur (Rs 890) and Gorakhpur to Patliputra (Rs 925), the CPRO said.

If the Railway Board grants approval, the train will offer passengers from Buxar and Ara a direct route to Jaynagar via Samastipur, Darbhanga, and Madhubani. Saraswati Chandra, Chief Public Relations Officer of the Hajipur Railway Zone, stated that the Namo Bharat Express is currently maintained at Patna Junction after arriving from Jaynagar. The train remains idle in Patna for about five hours. To make productive use of this time and enhance passenger convenience, Danapur Division has proposed its extension to the Hajipur Headquarters. If approved, the extended route could serve over 600 passengers daily from Ara and Buxar. Namo Bharat Express Fare The Namo Bharat Express departs from Jaynagar at 5:28 AM and reaches Patna Junction at 10:30 AM, stopping at Sakri, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Barauni, and Mokama. On the return journey, it leaves Patna at 6:05 PM and arrives at Jaynagar at 11:45 PM. The sleeper class fare between Patna and Jaynagar is Rs 340, while the general class fare is Rs 85. On this occasion, a series of activities aimed at promoting eco-consciousness and sustainable living among its employees and common people were organised. Participants, including scouts and guides, marched with banners and slogans through nearby neighbourhoods to raise awareness about the urgent need to protect and preserve the environment, he said, adding that the railways felicitated 'safai karmi' (cleaning staff) on the occasion. "Through today's actions we aim to make environmental consciousness an everyday practice," the DRM said, adding that World Environment Day serves as a reminder of the planet's fragile ecosystems and the urgent need to take action. "Railways also intends to run mail and express trains either originating from or passing through Patna Junction in future while all MEMU trains will originate and terminate at the Hardinge Park Terminal," the CPRO said. He added that the terminal will feature state-of-the-art facilities for passengers, comparable to those at airports, and will be directly connected via an underground passage to the multimodal hub and metro rail services at the Patna Junction end. In addition, the PM will inaugurate the newly constructed third railway line between Son Nagar and Mohammad Ganj, which will enhance coal transportation on the Ankora-Nabinagar power plant route. "Movement of goods traffic will be further streamlined following the opening of this route," said the CPRO. The PM will also inaugurate a newly installed advanced automatic signalling system between Sarasam and Anugrah Narayan Road, covering a distance of 25km.
