Peter Kay fans left gutted after ticket site crashes and venue forced to apologise over gig chaos
PETER Kay fans have been issued an apology after ticket sales for a special upcoming gig descended into chaos. Comedy lovers had logged on to snap up tickets for the one-off show with DJ Sara Cox only to find the website kept crashing. 5 The pair are due to take to the stage in Salford this September for Peter Kay In Conversation With Sara Cox. But when tickets went on sale at 10am on Saturday for the two-performance charity gig at The Lowry Theatre, fans were left struggling to buy them. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one frustrated punter wrote: "Had 3 tickets in basket and then couldn't finish purchase and when tried to get back in everything almost gone. Guess I won't be spending my bday celebration at the Lowry.' Another added: " Peter Kay crashing the internet again!" A third complained that it took him almost two hours to try and buy tickets. One lucky customer added: "Pretty chuffed to have gotten front row accessible tickets for this today before the ticket website fell over for a good while!" Peter has now re-shared an apology from The Lowry on his Instagram account. The message read: "We are aware of the issues this morning regarding booking tickets. "Please bear with us while we try to rectify the problem. "We apologise for any inconvenience caused." A further update from the theatre thanked fans for their patience and confirmed the two performances had eventually sold out. Peter and BBC Radio 2 DJ Sara will be taking to the stage on September 14 at both 2.30pm and 7.30pm. A blurb on The Lowry's website reads: "In these unique and heartwarming shows, the two proud Boltonians will sit down to reflect on Peter Kay's remarkable life and career, including the release of his much-anticipated new memoir, 'Peter Kay's Diary', due later this year. "As part of the conversation, they'll also share and discuss the songs that have shaped Peter's journey – from growing up in Bolton to becoming one of the UK's most beloved entertainers." All profits from Peter and Sara's show will go to Bolton Hospice and Crescent Food Bank Bolton. The performances will also be recorded, to air on television at a later date. Peter has been touring with his Peter Kay Live: Better Late Than Never tour since returning to the stage in 2022. On Saturday night, he took to the Manchester AO Arena and will now be taking a break until July 25. His tour will then run again until early November. During his shows, Peter has endured several encounters with rowdy audience members. In March, he halted his set and threatened to set security on hecklers at London 's O2 Arena. Weeks earlier, Peter had a fan kicked out after he repeatedly disrupted the show by shouting out the comedian's catchphrase "garlic bread". He also sparked controversy after comparing one heckler to actress Lisa Riley. Peter later treated Lisa, who plays Debbie Dingle in Emmerdale, to VIP tickets to one of his shows in the wake of the remark. 5

'I was as famous as Zoe Ball and Sara Cox but then I was cut out of fame for no reason'
Former Top of Pops host and huge 90s presenter Sarah Cawood has a very different life 20 years on after 'TV gave up on here' One of the biggest TV hosts of the 90' s Sarah Cawood was one of the key Top of The Pops presenters as she rose to fame but 20 years after her big break her life looks very different. The former presenter got her first big break in the '90s working on kids TV for Nickelodeon and two years later she landed herself a job presenting Channel 4's The Girlie Show alongside Sara Cox. The show ran for two series and followed a magazine format, floating from features to interviews to live music and stunts. The show took the later 'post-pub' slot of 11pm on a Friday and was branded as being more edgy than its rivals and tried to cash in on the 'ladette' that swept through the decade. She then came aboard the revamped Live and Kicking programme for its final two years on the air. It was then she landed her biggest role on Top of The Pops. After her spell finished she would go on to present various mini-series and one offs including co-commentating the Eurovision semi-finals in 2007, 2009 and 2010. But it was around that time that many of the big presenting gigs dried up with Cawood joining the team for Heart East Anglia's breakfast show for a year in 2014 before leaving to focus on looking after her children. Earlier this year the star shared her health battle on social media after raising concerns about her breast cancer returning. She was initially diagnosed in 2022, received successful treatment and was given the all-clear. But posting to her fans she revealed the nerves of it coming back never left. In a candid Instagram post, she wrote: "This is the reality of anyone who has had any kind of cancer. I never struggled with health anxiety before but post-breast cancer it's all-consuming and it wears me out a bit tbh. "I have been feeling tired since the new year began and although it's probably just life-ing, there's always a niggling worry that it's back. "All I can do is carry on doing healthy things, moving my body, practising mindfulness and living each day with gratitude that I got to breathe again this morning. "So on we go! Batting away those intrusive thoughts and getting on with it. To anyone either going through a cancer diagnosis or anyone who has recovered from cancer and feels like this: I've got you, and my inbox is always open. "And remember, anything that doesn't feel right: get it checked out. Early detection is key." In her Instagram, she also shared with fans how she's made peace with being "unsuccessful" on TV. In another post, she added: "Do I miss telly? I miss the money! And yes, sometimes I wonder what went wrong, but I'm here now so I'm going to make the most of it, however, that looks

BBC Sounds announced as the official fringe festival partner for Crossed Wires 2025
BBC Sounds has been announced as the official Fringe Festival partner of Crossed Wires Festival – the UK's biggest podcasting celebration which will take place in Sheffield from 4 to 6 July 2025. Over three jam-packed days, BBC Sounds will invite podcast and radio fans to experience live recordings and special sessions in the old Cole Brothers Department Store in Barkers Pool, Sheffield. The famous Grade II listed building – which originally opened in 1963 – will be transformed into a vibrant BBC Sounds hub for the weekend, reimagining the historic retail space for an entirely new purpose. Inside the venue, visitors can listen to special live recordings of popular podcasts including Football Daily, Newscast and Evil Genius, all of which will air later in the year on BBC Sounds. Literary lovers can settle down with Sara Cox and bestselling author David Nicholls for a special edition of Radio 2 Book Club, and for Radio 4's Rewinder Greg James will be joined by a special guest to dig deep into the BBC Archives and uncover an array of audio gems - including some with Sheffield connections. Fans of Radio 4's investigative series will be able to go behind the scenes of their favourite narrative podcasts with Gabriel Gatehouse (The Coming Storm) and Sue Mitchell (To Catch a Scorpion), whilst Frank Skinner will bring top comedians to Sheffield for two special recordings of One Person Found This Helpful. And to celebrate 100 years of the Shipping Forecast, Radio 4 announcers Lisa Costello and Viji Alles will take us behind the scenes of the beloved radio broadcast. For those looking for a moment of tranquillity, there will also be an immersive session of music and mindfulness with Radio 3 Unwind. 'We have events that hold a place in our heart' -new series starring Bolton presenter
Bolton TV presenter and radio broadcaster Sara Cox will be starring in a new series bringing alive people's most special memories - in miniature form. The eight-part BBC Daytime series will celebrate 'cherished memories and moments of time' in The Marvellous Miniatures Workshop. Professional model makers will bring places, people and iconic moments in time back to life via miniature models. The Bolton-born presenter said that she "can't wait" to find out the backstory behind each model. She said: "We all have life events that hold a special place in our heart, so I'm absolutely thrilled we are going to be recreating cherished memories and moments in time using the astonishing skills of our miniaturists. "This show taps into our fascination with the tiny, from fantasy film to classic literature and as a naturally very nosey person, I personally can't wait to find out the beautiful backstory that inspires each creation." Sarah Cox will present the new show The special one-off models will celebrate cherished and emotional family stories, as well as cultural heritage around events, design and fashions. Whether it is a life event, a snap-shot of mid-century design or a memory tied to trends of the past, these models say the BBC will serve as "tiny yet powerful windows into the way things were". To ensure the models are as authentic as possible, the miniaturists must embark on an investigative journey to uncover the personal stories behind each request, as well as dig into historical and cultural references to craft them as true and realistic as possible. Production company MGM Alternative will use the latest technology and microscopic cameras to get up close and personal, capturing the minute details and craft that goes into creating these special models.
