Dhenkanal on path of progress: Swain
Dhenkanal: Dhenkanal district is now on the path of progress as a development roadmap has been put in place for the last one year. Projects worth Rs 50,000 crore will be invested in the district. This was stated by Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain while addressing a gathering during the closing ceremony of 7-day Vikas Mela at Pallishree Mela ground. Swain said a sports complex and Mahima Gadi development projects to attract tourists will be set up in Dhenkanal. Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra said the Chief Minister has already announced setting up of a medical college, Rs 120 crore for Baji Rout sports complex and Rs 30,000 crore for solar projects. The government has issued new ration cards for 15,144 people, he said, adding that this year the district has procured 17.25 lakh quintals of paddy, which is surplus. In the Vikas Mela, 40 stalls were erected. The Mela focused on Dokra products, food processing , clothes and indigenous products. The ministers gave away prizes for traditional and indigenous products. Vikas Mela souvenir was released on the occasion. Parjang MLA Bibhuti Bhusan Pradhan, Hindol MLA Simarani Nayak, Kamakshyanagar MLA Satrughan Jena, Municipality chairperson Jayanti Patra and Collector Somesh Kumar Upadhyay were present.

Over 55,000 candidates secure rank in Odisha JEE
BHUBANESWAR: Over 55,000 candidates have secured ranks in the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE)-2025, results of which were declared by the SDTE department on Tuesday. The examination was conducted by the OJEE committee. Announcing the results of the exams, SDTE minister Sampad Chandra Swain said a total of 92,488 candidates had registered for OJEE 2025 of which 80,324 appeared for the entrance examination and 55,362 secured ranks for admission into various professional courses in the state. Results of the remaining 25,000 nursing aspirants including 22,902 Basic BSc Nursing candidates, for whom the OJEE conducted the exams for the first time, will be declared by the DMET, Odisha, the minister said. Anurag Mishra topped the exam in MBA, while S Siseendri emerged topper in MCA/MSc. The toppers list also included Jatin Meher in BPharm, Gourab Swain in LE Tech (Diploma), Sakshi Kumari in LE Tech (BSc), Ansuman Pati in Integrated MBA, Hitesh Kumar Dhal in MPharm and Sanidhya Nayak in BCAT (Cinematography, Sound Recording and Sound Design). As per OJEE committee's statistics, ranks have been allotted to 18,398 candidates in Lateral Entry (LE)-Tech (Diploma), 14,032 in BPharm, 9,022 in MBA, 6,795 in MCA and MSc (Computer Science), 1,651 in MPharm, 1,564 in Integrated MBA and 976 in LE Pharm. Similarly, while 1,827 candidates have been allotted ranks in different MTech courses, those pursuing courses such as MPlan, MArch and BCAT have also secured ranks. OJEE Committee chairman DP Satpathy said admission process for candidates allotted ranks will begin soon. 'The registration is likely to open in June third week for BTech admission based on the JEE (Main) ranking,' he added.

SEBC quota in engineering, tech courses soon: Odisha Minister
BHUBANESWAR: In the face of widespread demands, the state government is planning to announce reservation for students belonging to the socially and educationally backward classes (SEBC) in engineering and technical courses, on June 12. Minister of state for Skill Development and Technical Education Sampad Chandra Swain told mediapersons on Friday that the government is examining all aspects of the issue and a formal decision will be taken soon. The announcement in this regard is likely to be made on completion of one year of the BJP government in the state on June 12, he said. The state cabinet had recently approved 11.25 per cent reservation for SEBC students in higher educational institutions from the 2025-26 academic session. Besides 11.25 per cent reservation for SEBCs, the state government now provides 22.5 per cent reservation to STs, 16.25 per cent to SCs, five per cent to persons with disabilities and one per cent to ex-servicemen. The announcement had led to protests from Opposition BJD, Congress and other organisations who demanded implementation of 27 per cent reservation for SEBCs in engineering, medical and technical courses also.

Governor opens international academy of NSDC in city
1 2 Bhubaneswar: Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Friday inaugurated an international academy of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) at the Skill Development Institute (SDI) here. He also flagged off a 'Skill on Wheels' bus on the occasion to expand the outreach of skill development. The academy will provide the youth of Odisha and neighbouring states with skills for international career opportunities . It is dedicated to preparing youth for international career opportunities through foreign language training and pre-departure support, official sources said. Through the academy, NSDC and SDI Bhubaneswar aspire to equip youth with the competencies required to succeed in overseas job markets. It will teach youths domain skills, soft skills and international language skills, the sources said. The governor highlighted Odisha's progressive efforts in the field of skill development. "This world-class campus, developed at an investment of Rs 500 crore over 47 acres at the foothills of the historic Barunei hill, stands as a model for skill training excellence with multiple centres of excellence and strong industry collaboration," he added. The 'Skill on Wheels' bus is a mobile training unit equipped with modern infrastructure aimed at delivering doorstep training across educational institutes in the state. "This initiative is another innovative step to democratise access to skill training, bringing modern infrastructure and industry-aligned programs directly to the doorsteps of learners across the state," read the official statement from NSDC. Skill development minister Sampad Chandra Swain said the govt is committed to building the state as the skill hub of eastern India. Skill development and technical education secretary Bhupendra Singh Poonia, Rasmi Govil, director (HR), Indian Oil Corporation, Ranjan Bhowmick, CEO of SDI Bhubaneswar, senior dignitaries from NSDC and other stakeholders, were among those who attended the programme.
