SHAH ALAM - A 17-year-old boy who unintentionally captured footage of the Air India flight AI171 crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat last Thursday has come forward to give a statement to the police as a key eyewitness in the investigation into the tragic incident, which claimed 270 lives. The boy, identified as Aryan, recounted how only 24 seconds after recording the video of the aircraft, it crashed and exploded into a "fireball." The Air India Boeing 787-7 Dreamliner reportedly crashed just minutes after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport en route to Gatwick, United Kingdom. According to Aryan, he had merely recorded the aircraft as usual from his rented home near the airport before witnessing the horrific tragedy unfold before his eyes. "I felt very scared. My younger sister was the first to see the video. I also feel traumatised when I watched the footage again," he told international media. Aryan's video has become one of the first visual pieces of evidence to circulate on social media and news broadcasts, offering an early glimpse into the tragedy. Aryan's sister also expressed concern for his emotional state, saying that he no longer wanted to live in the area due to fear of similar incidents. "He looked shocked and did not speak at all. I tried to comfort him, but he stayed awake all night and refused to eat," the landlord of his rented house said. The tragedy occurred on June 11 when the Air India AI171 aircraft, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members, crashed into a student hostel complex in the Meghani Nagar area, about two kilometres from the airport. The crash claimed the lives of 241 people on board, while 29 others on the ground also perished, bringing the total death toll to 270 as of Saturday (June 14). The sole survivor of the tragic crash was a male passenger in seat 11A and was currently receiving treatment in the hospital. According to India's Civil Aviation secretary, Samir Kumar Sinha, the aircraft had only managed to ascend to 200 metres before it suddenly lost altitude. Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 14 (ANI): Days after the tragic crash of the Air India flight 171, Secretary of Ministry of Civil Aviation, Samir Kumar Sinha on Saturday giving details stated that after Air Traffic Control (ATC) had tried contacting the plane, it had not received any response, minutes after which the plane crashed in Medhaninagar. 'At 1:39 pm, the pilot informed Ahmedabad ATC that it was a May Day, i.e., full emergency. According to ATC, when it tried to contact the plane, it did not receive any response. Exactly after 1 minute, this plane crashed in Medhaninagar, which is located at a distance of about 2 km from the airport. The captain of the plane was Sumit Sabharwal, and the first officer was Clive Sundar,' Sinha said, addressing the media. He further stated that the plane had started losing its height after reaching a height of 650 feet. 'The AIC 171 plane carrying a total of 242 passengers on board, including 230 passengers, 2 pilots, and 10 crew members, had taken off at 1:39 p.m. and within a few seconds, after it reached a height of 650 feet, it had started sinking, i.e. losing height...' he added. The Secretary further added that the plane had no history of crashes and had completed the Paris-Delhi-Ahmedabad sector previously without any accident. 'As far as the entire history of the plane is concerned, before this accident, the plane had completed the Paris-Delhi-Ahmedabad sector without any accident. Due to the accident, the runway was closed at 2:30 pm, and after completing all the protocols, the runway of Ahmedabad was opened for limited flights from 5 PM,' he stated. Meanwhile, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu stated that the recovery of the aircraft's Black box from the debris was critical to the investigative process. 'The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, which was formed specifically to look into the incidents, accidents that happen around aircraft, was immediately mobilised. One important update from the technical investigation which is happening through the AAIB is the recovery of the black box yesterday around 5 pm from the site, the AAIB team believes that this decoding of the black box is going to give an in depth insight into what would have happened during the process of the crash or moments before the crash itself. We are also eagerly waiting for what the results or the report are going to be once the AAIB goes through its full investigation...' Naidu said while addressing a press briefing. He also stated that the crash had shaken the entire nation. 'The last two days have been very difficult, especially for the ministry and everyone else. The incident that happened in Ahmedabad has shaken the entire nation. My deepest condolences to the family members who have lost their loved ones in the incident. I have also personally lost my father to a road accident, so to a certain extent, I can understand the pain and anguish the family members are feeling,' he further added. (ANI)

The video that Aryan captured was the one visual that gave netizens, as well as the media, the initial view of the unfortunate accident. The Ahmedabad Crime Branch issued a statement to say that Aryan's statement was recorded, and to clarify that no person was arrested for making the video, news agency PTI reported. I assured remained awake for the entire night. He has become quiet, not even eating anything," she said. Within minutes of its takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 11, Gatwick-bound Air India AI171 flight crashed into a medical hostel complex in Meghani Nagar area. The crash of the plane, which was carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members, left behind just one survivor. Rest of the 241 passengers lost their lives to the tragedy. Additionally, 29 others, who were present on the ground in and around the medical hostel complex, were also killed. The death toll in the Ahmedabad plane crash, as of Saturday, stood at 270. Advt Advt Boeing 787-8 extensive surveillance By , ETInfra While the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is investigating the technical aspects which led to the crash of Air India Flight AI-171 on Thursday, the government has formed a high level committee led by the home secretary to look into the broader aspect of strengthening of aviation security landscape in the country.'While AAIB will investigate the technical aspects of the crash, another high level committee has been formed led by the home secretary, which includes officials from the central and state government. The committee, apart from looking into the reason for the crash, will also look into overall aviation safety and strengthening of aviation safety in the future,' said Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha in a press briefing on Saturday.'The composition of the high level committee involves people from various backgrounds and people we feel can bring in a lot of expertise and value to the committee which is going to investigate in a holistic way into the incident,' said Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, who was also present at the minister highlighted that the high level committee is going to do its own investigation into the crash of the Air India aircraft which is going to be independent of all the other investigations that are going to has already initiated the investigation into the Air India crash . The black box or the flight data recorder of the aircraft, which contains crucial information and data about the aircraft's flight behaviour, was recovered from the crash site on Friday evening.'The AAIB team believes that this decoding of the black box is going to give an in depth insight into what would have actually happened during the process of the crash or moments before the crash itself,' said crash involved the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft which was powered by two GEnx-1B engines manufactured by GE the home secretary will be the chairman of the committee, other members include civil aviation secretary, an additional secretary from home ministry, one representative from the state govt of Gujarat and State Disaster Response Authority, Police Commissioner Ahmedabad, director general of inspection and safety from the Indian Air Force, director general from Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, director general of Directorate General of Civil Aviation, special director from Intelligence Bureau and director from the Directorate of Forensic Sciences the Boeing 787 widebody aircraft manufactured in the US has faced regulatory scrutiny by the US' civil aviation regulator Federal Aviation Administration in the past, the Air India accident was the first instance when the aircraft model faced a fatal crash.'...after the incident happened, we also felt that there is a need to do an extended surveillance into the Boeing 787 series,' said Naidu.'So to the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation), we have also given an order to do the extended surveillance for the 787 planes. There are 34 in our Indian aircraft fleet today. I believe that 8 have already been inspected and then with immediate urgency, all of them are going to be done,' added India in a statement said that the airline has completed such checks on nine of the Boeing 787 aircraft and are on track to complete the process for the remaining 24 aircraft within the timeline provided by the regulator. Air India operates a fleet of 33 Boeing 787 aircraft, which are crucial for their long-haul international flight operations.
