Samir Geagea to Hezbollah's Naim Qassem: Only the government can decide on war and peace
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea responded to Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem's latest remarks, saying: 'Sheikh Naim, you don't get to act on your own. Only the Lebanese government has the authority to make such decisions, as it represents the majority of the Lebanese people.'' He added, ''Lebanon is a sovereign state, particularly under its new presidency. It's unacceptable for anyone to take matters into their own hands. That would turn the country into a lawless arena with no governing authority or legal framework.'' Geagea emphasized, ''If you have suggestions about the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, bring them to your party's representatives in the Cabinet. That's where such proposals should be discussed—and where decisions should be made.'

Geagea Slams Silence over UNIFIL Attacks, Demands Swift Government Action
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea expressed deep concern over recent incidents targeting UNIFIL in southern Lebanon, questioning the absence of a clear stance from Lebanese authorities. In a statement, Geagea said, "If UNIFIL is overstepping its mandate, the Lebanese government should inform the force accordingly. But if it is not, as clearly defined in UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and its successive renewals, then the relevant authorities must not only intervene to halt confrontations but also detain and prosecute the assailants." Moreover, Geagea warned that portraying the state as a mere mediator between UN peacekeepers and those attacking them weakens state authority and perpetuates the perception that nothing has changed in Lebanon despite all recent upheavals. Geagea also called for swift arrests and firm legal action, saying it would signal the emergence of a functioning state in Lebanon.

Geagea to authorities: Prove Lebanon is a real state by protecting UNIFIL
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea voiced strong concern over the recent incidents targeting UNIFIL forces in southern Lebanon and the lack of a clear response from the Lebanese authorities. In a statement, Geagea said that if the U.N. peacekeeping force is overstepping its mandate, the Lebanese government should formally notify it. 'But if UNIFIL is operating within its authorized scope—as clearly outlined in U.N. Resolution 1701 and in every renewal of its mandate—then it is the duty of the relevant security agencies to not only intervene immediately to stop clashes between local youth and peacekeepers but also to arrest and prosecute those attacking them.' He warned that the government's passive stance, acting as a mere mediator between UNIFIL and its attackers, weakens the state's authority and sends the wrong message—one that suggests nothing has changed in Lebanon despite years of crisis. 'This must be urgently corrected,' he said, 'by arresting the perpetrators and acting in a way that signals the presence of a functioning state.'

Geagea says Israeli airstrikes on Dahieh a 'major scandal'
by Naharnet Newsdesk 9 hours Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea has said that the latest Israeli airstrikes on Beirut's southern suburbs were a 'major scandal,' seeing as 'eight months after the signing of the ceasefire agreement in November 2024, Beirut is being bombed again.' 'They are telling us that that happened because Israel is barbarous … We know that, but what have you done to prevent that?' Geagea wondered, stressing that 'the solution comes through the clear regional equation and the clear international equation.' 'We need someone to endorse these equations so that we manage to solve our problems,' the LF leader added, emphasizing that 'it it unacceptable for the Lebanese citizen to remain in danger of being bombed or killed in any given moment, whereas there is a solution.' He added that the solution takes places when Hezbollah and its allies allow the Lebanese state to become an 'actual state,' lamenting that state officials are also being lenient with Hezbollah regarding its weapons. 'Today Lebanon has a chance and I don't know if this chance will still be there two months from now. We have major friends in this world, starting by the Gulf countries, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States. They can help us stop the Israeli attacks and they can help us remove the Israelis from Lebanon, but on the condition that we become an actual state,' Geagea said. He also noted that 'verbal attacks' on Israel cannot resolve Lebanon's problems.
