A Very Honest Review Of Sol De Janeiro's New Body Lotion
I have a confession: I've never fully identified with the cult of Sol De Janeiro's Brazilian Bum Bum Cream. I'm not saying there aren't enough reasons to love it, there are indeed plenty – read: the dopamine-inducing sunshine yellow tub, the sugary beach holiday scent, the skin-perfecting formula and that rich unctuous texture, the list goes on. But my personal, and rather pivotal, gripe has long revolved around the latter. When temperatures are soaring outside, the last thing I want to do after a shower is coat my skin in a thick, heavy cream that requires some dry down time before getting dressed, no matter how deliciously fragranced it is. For those, like me, who have been too afraid to speak any ill of this cult classic, whose cultural cachet spans the run of beauty editors, A-listers, tweens and TikTokers the world over, it is time to rejoice as Sol De Janeiro has answered our secret prayers with its newest offering: the Badalada Vitamin Infused Body Lotion, £32. The latest launch from the now billion dollar beauty brand marks a return to its body care origins. Sol De Janeiro launched in 2015 with the Bum Bum Cream, but ten years on the Brazilian-born beauty brand has reimagined its inaugural release with a lighter, more spreadable iteration of the OG, which is understandably already causing a stir online. Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, testing Sol De Janeiro's new Body Badalada™ Lotion Perfect for lazy girls (guilty as charged), the new Badalada Vitamin Infused Body Lotion promises 24-hour weightless hydration with an airy, non-sticky formula that sinks in on contact to quickly reveal soft, supple, silky-smooth skin. While it bears some of the same key hallmarks as its older relative – namely that sunshine yellow packaging and the iconic Cheirosa 62 scent – there are clear distinctions between both. Described as being 'more like cousins than twins,' according to the brand literature, the differences between the original Brazilian Bum Bum Cream and the new Badalada Vitamin Infused Body Lotion are down to texture, ingredients, packaging, and even price – so quite a lot then. The OG is packed with a high concentration of emollient oils and butters which lends it a rich, creamy texture that bodes well for dry skin. Plus, it's enriched with caffeine-rich guaraná extract and cupuaçu butter to firm and tighten. On the other hand, the new upgrade is loaded with a higher water content, which makes it featherweight, malleable and ideal for oily skin types. It also boasts humectant like hyaluronic acid and Brazilian sugarcane to attract water and retain moisture in the skin. Both are also bottled up in their own unique ways making the user experience totally different (more on that further on). And while the Cream retails for a fairly pocket-denting £48, the Lotion comes in at £32. Sol De Janeiro's new Body Badalada™ Lotion (L) and Brazilian Bum Bum® Cream Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, says: 'This summer-ready lotion arrived just in time for the soaring temperatures London has been enjoying of late, a time when my body care craves a light and refreshing all-over hydrator even more than usual. As someone who hasn't been totally overcome by the force of Sol De Janeiro's original Brazilian Bum Bum Cream (I rarely use it outside of winter), I was keen to see how I would get on with its new modern counterpart and I can confirm it did not disappoint. Straight off the bat, its pump applicator makes it much easier to dispense the lotion when I'm pressed for time, plus I can control how much I want to use without wastage. It also means I don't need to dip my fingers into a tub, which usually awakens the germophobe in me and leaves the tub a slippery mess. The formula itself glides on like a dream, no thanks to the humectant-rich, watery content, which makes it spread like water (not butter) and leaves my skin feeling quenched (not drenched), sans that heavy, sticky feeling. It sinks in with impressive speed, too, so I'm not sat there waiting for my skin to dry before I can get dressed. That all too familiar, addictive holiday-in-a-bottle scent is ever bold and present, which means those of us who haven't yet found the breathable body care products that you can layer to make the brand's pistachio, salted caramel and vanilla loaded Cheirosa 62 scent really last (thanks for the hack TikTok), can now finally get stuck in.' Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, testing Sol De Janeiro's new Body Badalada™ Lotion 1. Sol De Janeiro Badalada Vitamin Infused Body Lotion Price: £32 What the brand says: 'Quench thirsty skin with 24-hour weightless hydration. This fast-absorbing, irresistibly scented body lotion is infused with Brazilian sugarcane to actively boost surface hydration, seven-hyaluronic-acid blend to draw moisture deep into the skin's layers, and the iconic scent of Cheirosa 62™.' What we know: The cult of Sol De Janeiro's Brazilian Bum Bum Cream has helped the brand to become the billion dollar empire it is today which churns out quick-to-go-viral products that become the go-to for fashion editors, A-listers, tweens and TikTokers everywhere. This upgrade features moisture drawing Brazilian sugarcane, seven different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid to reach deeper layers of the skin, and antioxidant-rich cactus pear extract to offers a new way to enjoy the OG body cream. Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, says: 'Straight off the bat, its pump applicator makes it much easier to dispense the lotion when I'm pressed for time, plus I can control how much I want to use without wastage. It also means I don't need to dip my fingers into a tub, which usually awakens the germophobe in me and leaves the tub a slippery mess. This Iconic Benefit Product Just Had An Update – And It's Better Than Ever
Few beauty products enjoy the same level of fame and success as Benefit's Benetint. While there are lots of lip stains available in 2025, from peels to felted markers, it was Benefit's OG product that put the revolutionary long-wear, budge-proof formula on the map in 1976. 49 years later, the San Franciscan brand's first-to-market beauty product shows no sign of waning and it's got the numbers to prove it. Boasting a whopping one billion views on TikTok, one bottle of this blush sold every 11 seconds in 2024 and three million vials sold that year alone. It seems the buzz around the internet's favourite lip-to-cheek multitasker is about to reach fever pitch, as Benefit introduces two new shades into the fold for the first time ever: Raspberry and Dark Cherry, which are on sale right now for £19.10 at Sephora. Cementing its iconic status, the brand has teamed up with Desi Perkins, mega influencer and founder of @deziskin, to create the DEZI X Benetint Dark Cherry Sunglasses and Lip & Cheek Stain Set, which includes a pair of cherry-pink coated Dezi sunglasses, a custom pink case, and a full-size Benetint Lip & Cheek Stain in the new Dark Cherry hue. While the $95 limited edition kit is exclusively available at Sephora USA, the collaboration has already helped to ensure that Dark Cherry is a sell-out success. Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, using Dark Cherry The new colour expansion welcomes hues of ruddy brown in Dark Cherry, and berry pink for Raspberry, giving us a whole new way to enjoy the cult classic. Unlike other Benetint iterations like the Floratint and Playtint, the two newcomers share the same well-loved formula as the original, that being a natural-looking flush of long-lasting, non-drying colour that is smudge, transfer, water and humidity-proof. If you're into a monochrome make-up moment (guilty as charged), the multitasker can be swiftly swiped across lips and cheeks for a lightweight sheer look that can be built up all while guaranteeing a believable second-skin finish, thanks to its barely-there watercolour-resembling stain. Jean and Jane Ford, the twin founders of Benefit, actually created the Benefit Benetint as a nipple enhancer for exotic dancers, but almost 50 years on it's the secret to perking up our complexions. A flurry of A-listers including Winona Ryder, Nicole Kidman and even Rachel Zegler are known to love it, the latter of whom used it to create Snow White's classic red-lipped look in the 2025 live-action remake of the Disney classic. Swatches of Benefit's new Benetint in Raspberry (top) and Dark Cherry (bottom) Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, says: 'I am quite serious about blush; I often forgo all cheek products (like bronzer and contour) but will never complete my make-up without a stippling of something flesh-toned across my cheeks, nose, lids, temples and chin. I did say serious, didn't I? To feed my addiction while avoiding blush blindness – there's a fine line, I know – I have long held on to clever formulas that lend a breathable, buildable, natural skin finish, and that's where Benefit's original Benetint comes in. I've used it years and was doubtful that the OG stain could get any better, but I'm happy to report I stand corrected. While the original Benetint promises to stain cheeks with a perky rosey red colour that is perfect for summer, the new shades offer deeper, muted hues that I will likely lean on year-round. I've taken to Dark Cherry, a ruddy brown that works beautifully against my medium, olive complexion. It packs all the staying power of the original, meaning one application in the morning is enough to last me through most of the day, but offers up more options that will work across a plethora of skin tones and make-up moods.' 1. Hailey Bieber Revealed That Rhode Is Finally Coming To The UK
After months of anticipation, the news we've been waiting for has finally become a reality. Hailey Bieber announced that Rhode, the brand known for making glazed skin a viral sensation, is making its way into Sephora. Gone are the days of waiting lists and shipping fees, Rhode's cult-products will now be available online and in the UK's high street. For those who've spent the last three years trying to get their hands on the Peptide Lip Treatment or dying to get their skin looking ridiculously glowing with Peptide Glazing Fluid - you're in luck. Since launching in 2022, it's safe to say that the brand has earned a cult following as fans finally discovered the secret to Bieber's sought-after glossy skin and perfect pout. Rhode originally launched with three products, all of which have become a viral phenomenon and often struggle to remain in stock. Peptide Glazing Fluid, Barrier Restore Cream and Peptide Lip Treatment were the first three to launch and quickly became permanent spots in many beauty cupboards. Since then, Bieber has expanded her ever-growing beauty line that has become a constant in our beauty rotation. Notably, Rhode Pocket Blush and Peptide Lip Shape gained our seal of approval when they launched - and let's not forget the chokehold that the Rhode Phone Cases have had us all in (which are now happily back in stock). From strawberry girl make-up, glazed doughnut nails to the clean girl aesthetic, there are very few beauty trends we can't trace back to Bieber. Taking to Instagram, both Rhode and Sephora announced we can expect this highly anticipated launch later this year, so we don't have to wait too long to wait. In the meantime, shop the best-selling Rhode products below. 1. Rhode Glazing Milk Tried and tested by beauty writer Sameeha Shaikh: 'On application this isn't as gel-like as I'd imagined. That being said, it's lightweight and glides on effortlessly, soaking into the skin instantly and leaves behind a post-facial sheen that isn't so easily achieved by other serums that promise 'glow', which can often feel tacky. There's hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture, peptides to plump and niacinamide to brighten and improve texture. I apply two layers to really get that supple feeling, but the sheer wetness of the product makes it so comforting and soothing on application, I'd happily pack this atop my lacklustre skin on days I need it most.' 2. Rhode Barrier Restore Cream Tried and tested by beauty writer Sameeha Shaikh: 'Now this is a product I can see myself packing in my carry-on. Again, it's weightless but brilliantly rich thanks to a power-packed list of ingredients, including nourishing shea butter, skin barrier supporting squalene, free radical protecting acai and (more) peptides and niacinamide to plump and brighten. Those with a combination to dehydrated skin type will appreciate the level of moisture it provides.' 3. Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment Tried and tested by beauty writer Sameeha Shaikh: 'Arguably the hero of the bunch. There are three wonderful iterations of Hailey's viral lip treatment: Unscented, Watermelon and my personal favourite Salted Caramel. They smell delicious and are equally great at nourishing parched lips thanks to a blend of shea butter, peptides, cupuaçu and babassu. Expect an ultra-glazed, high-shine and uber-smooth finish.' 4. Rhode Peptide Lip Shape Tried and tested by beauty writer Georgia Scott: 'While it sits somewhere between a liner and a lipstick, its satin formula means you'll need the occasional top-up. But what it lacks in wear time, it makes up for in comfort. Unlike firmer lip pencils that lock in colour to prevent smudging, Lip Shape feels weightless - almost balm-like - and enhances the lips in a way that looks effortless.' 5. Rhode Pocket Blush Tried and tested by beauty writer Sameeha Shaikh: 'Bieber had been teasing this for what felt like months ahead of finally confirming the rumours of a new cream blush joining the family. And boy, were they worth the wait. The balmy, on-the-go blush is another multitasking hero, perfect for lips, cheeks, and, as I found, even eyes. It's lightweight but packs pigment and leaves the skin awash with the most beautiful, natural-looking satiny flush that is glowy, never greasy. The shades on offer are enough to hook you. See the pic above for proof - Juice Box is my new obsession.' Georgia Scott is a beauty and fashion product writer writing across brands such as heat, Closer and Grazia specialising in all things lifestyle and trending. Before starting at Bauer, Georgia completed her degree in Journalism at University and worked as a retail beauty advisor and make-up artist.
