St Helens forward Batchelor facing four weeks out
Joe Batchelor has joined the growing injury list at St Helens ahead of Friday's Super League fixture against Leeds Rhinos with the forward facing four weeks out with a calf tear. Head coach Paul Wellens confirmed a scan on the forward had delivered the bad news following Batchelor's exit from the field against Salford Red Devils. Advertisement "On the physio's first look we were expecting it to be worse so we will take a little bit of comfort in that, but he could be out for four weeks," Wellens said. Saints are also sweating on the fitness of fellow forward Curtis Sironen, who left the field against Salford after suffering back spasms. Wellens will give Sironen until the "11th hour" to prove his fitness but admitted that the "signs are not looking good". Saints are also without half-back and kicker George Whitby after he failed a head injury assessment in Greater Manchester. "He is recovering well and ticking the boxes. Once he is back fit and firing he can be a very important player for us," Wellens added.

Foreign investors looking to give Super League a huge money boost
SUPER League is being targeted by potential investors from the Middle East and the USA, with the next three months described as 'critical.' The NRL has long been linked with a buy-in to the competition on the other side of the world. But SunSport understands there are three other serious contenders looking at plunging money in. One may be linked to Saudi Arabia, which would tie into hopes streaming giant DAZN – which has strong links to the Arab nation –gets involved in a competition with Sky for the next broadcast deal. An American group is also examining the possibility of supporting Super League, but it is thought they are not linked to the disastrous buyout of Salford Red Devils. Interest based in the UK is also in the running, with the coming weeks set to see work done on making the sport in the Northern Hemisphere 'ready for investment.' That includes sorting a governance structure, mapping out how finance will develop the sport and what level of influence any investor will have. The NRL's much talked about move, which would bring all of rugby league under the same umbrella, is seen by many as the potential saviour of the sport. However, SunSport understands if they do come in, with a large level of control, it will not see cash plunged in. Instead, it is believed any return will come in the form of improved commercial deals. Bosses are said to be examining all the options on the table with one source saying: 'It's got to be the right investment, not just money to be spent in the same ways as always.'
