Bahrain reinforces strategy for security and stability

Bahrain lost one of its most respected and beloved philanthropic figures today, Wednesday, June 18, with the passing of Mrs. Safiya Ali Mohammed Kanoo — a woman whose life was defined by selfless service, community support, and cultural enrichment. Throughout her decades-long journey, Mrs. Safiya Kanoo was a cornerstone of Bahrain's social and economic landscape. She was a leading supporter of community development, women's empowerment, and the country's cultural and artistic scene. Her legacy includes countless initiatives that improved the lives of children with cancer, the elderly, and underprivileged families across the Kingdom. One of her lasting contributions is the Safiya Ali Kanoo Pediatric Ward at Salmaniya Medical Complex, along with two elderly care units, mosques, and the Safiya Ali Kanoo Center for Arts and Handicrafts, which continues to nurture creativity and preserve Bahraini heritage. In the economic sphere, she championed small and medium-sized enterprises, especially those led by women. Through training programs and artistic exhibitions, she played a vital role in empowering local artisans, families, and female entrepreneurs to pursue sustainable, creative livelihoods. Mrs. Kanoo was also a devoted supporter of the Bahrain Businesswomen's Society and actively helped organize events that elevated women's participation in business and culture. Her impact did not go unnoticed by the nation's leadership. In recognition of her exceptional contributions, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa awarded her the First-Class Medal of Competence not once, but twice — in 2001 and again in 2012. The passing of Safiya Kanoo is a profound loss for Bahrain. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and visionary leadership. Her memory will live on in the lives she touched and the institutions she helped build — a true national icon of generosity and progress.
