Counterfeit luxury goods worth RM400,000 seized in KL

Sabri (left) said the syndicate has been operating for about two months, and also took orders from Sabah and Sarawak. – BERNAMApic KUALA LUMPUR: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has seized more than 15,000 pairs of counterfeit goods worth RM400,000 at a wholesale complex near Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman here. Its Kuala Lumpur director Mohd Sabri Seman said the seizure followed a two-week investigation involving eight storage units and two showrooms used for wholesale operations to retailers nationwide. "For slippers, the syndicate involved would buy them for as low as RM4 and sell them to retailers for RM20 to RM30. "For shoes, they would buy them for as little as RM20 and sell them for RM100 to RM120,' he told a press conference here on Wednesday (June 18). He said a Malaysian man in his early 20s working at the premises was detained to assist in the investigation. According to Sabri, the syndicate is believed to have been operating for the past two months and also took orders from Sabah and Sarawak. The case is being investigated under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. So far this year, he said, the ministry has opened 64 cases in Kuala Lumpur involving intellectual property under Ops Jeriji 6.0. It has seized 30,100 units of goods worth RM1.5mil and arrested 10 suspects under the operation. "We will continue to intensify enforcement activities on intellectual property, including the Trademark Act 2019, the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 and the Copyright Act 1987, to combat the sale of counterfeit goods,' he said. Sabri also advised consumers not to support sellers of counterfeit goods and said traders who violate the law risk severe penalties. – Bernama

Goodbye planks! This 6-minute Pilates workout will help you sculpt a strong and stable core

Time (or a lack of it) is often cited as the reason I skip a workout. Whether it's because I've woken up later than I had hoped and have missed my allocated slot to work out, or I've decided to work through my lunch break in order to get my to-do list ticked off. When you're spinning lots of plates, something's got to give. And this year, it's my fitness regime that's often been the first thing to be ditched in favour of something else. However, in 2025, I think we can all agree that workouts don't need to be long, super sweaty, or tedious to 'count' as being effective. If armed with the right workout, you can achieve a lot in not a lot of time at all. But does a six-minute workout still hit the spot? After coming across this short and speedy abs workout from qualified physiotherapist and Pilates trainer Lilly Sabri, I decided to see for myself. After rolling out a yoga mat, I was good to go. Spoiler alert: my abs are still on fire! I'm a fan of most of Sabri's YouTube workouts because they tend to be Pilates-inspired, quick and not-so-easy, so it still feels like you're challenging your body despite the limited time you've got to do it in. And this six-minute deep core session is just that! Containing 12 Pilates moves, the idea is to complete each exercise for 30 seconds, with no rests in between. For example, some of the moves include: Six minutes can be enough time to work out — especially if it's all you've got. As I found after completing the first two exercises, my core was all fired up and feeling like it had been put through its paces. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. That's because Pilates is all about performing slow and controlled movements with the correct form that matches your breath. Doing so helps you move steadily and with precision during each exercise, which can then help you maximize the time under tension for your deep core muscles. And that it does! For example, during the Pilates roll-ups, instead of completing as many reps of this move as possible during the 30-second stint, I focused on inhaling as I was slowly rolling my torso up and my arms reaching forward and then exhaling as I articulated through my spine, vertebrae by vertebrae, back down until I was lying flat on the mat. And this was a technique that was instilled into each move. Doing so meant my core muscles were engaged the whole time, which helped me get more bang for my buck. So after completing all 12 of the best pilates exercises for my core, my trunk certainly knew it had had a workout. Due to the fact that there are no rests in between each of these moves, you are therefore engaging your muscles for a sustained period of time through a series of controlled movements, which helped me boost my muscular endurance. Plus, while the workout was over before I knew it, it provided me with some much-needed headspace before the busy day began. I'd say this workout is ideal if you're short on time, as you'll still feel the burn (sometimes in muscles you didn't know you had) even if you've only got six minutes spare. In a perfect world, we'd be sticking to the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, which recommend adults complete muscle-strengthening activities on all major muscle groups two or more days a week. So, of course, a short bout of Pilates can help get you closer to this goal, but if time allows, it shouldn't be the only workout you do. Either way, whether you try out this workout on its own, incorporate it into your full-body workout, or as an abs finisher, you're bound to feel a handful of the benefits Pilates brings.

Sipadan diving holiday ends in tragedy

KOTA KINABALU: A Chinese couple's diving trip to Sipadan Island in Semporna turned tragic when the man ended up drowning. The 37-year-old victim and his wife were with a group of other divers and their guides prior to the accident on Monday morning. According to Semporna OCPD Supt Mohd Sabri Zainol, police received a call about the death of a Chinese tourist at around 6.45pm. 'The call from one of the dive masters informed us that he and four other guides had brought with them a total of eight divers of various nationalities to the dive site,' he said in a statement. At around 10.45am, one of the divers jumped into the sea without permission from his guide, he said. Supt Sabri said the boatman saw the victim panicking and going underwater, so he informed the crew, prompting an emergency search and rescue effort. The divers found the victim unconscious at a depth of about 25m underwater and quickly brought him up to the surface, he said, adding that emergency resuscitation was performed on the boat. 'The victim remained unconscious; he was barely breathing and vomited a few times,' he said. The victim was first taken to the Semporna Hospital for treatment before being transferred to the Tawau Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said Supt Sabri. 'We have classified this case as sudden death and a post-mortem will be conducted,' he said. He urged those with more information to come forward and assist police investigations by calling Asst Supt Mohammad Ali Amat at 013-212 0852 or going to the nearest police station. In another case in Kuala Lumpur, Bernama reported that an 11-year-old Rohingya girl has gone missing after being swept away by strong currents in a drain in front of the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) Hall in Kampung Cheras Baru. Ampang Jaya Police Chief ACP Mohd Azam Ismail said police were alerted about the incident at 6.07pm on Monday via the District Control Centre of the Ampang Jaya District Police Headquarters. 'Police and personnel from the fire and rescue department were dispatched to the scene, where they were informed that two girls had fallen into the drain. One of the girls, a 10-year-old Rohingya, was rescued by members of the public,' he said in a report. He added that a rescue team is conducting search and rescue operations for the second child. 'The search and rescue operation was called off at 10.30pm due to darkness and rain and will resume tomorrow at 8am,' he said. He urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the police to assist with the investigation.
