KOTA KINABALU : The Sabah chapter of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today detained a civil servant and a government pensioner for alleged involvement in a RM66,000 graft case involving land applications. Bernama quoted sources as saying the two men, in their 50s and 60s, were detained at the Sabah MACC office after having their statements recorded this morning. The duo were suspected of having accepted bribes in connection with a case in 2016, even though they had no power to either approve land applications or conduct a census. 'An initial probe found that the first suspect had allegedly accepted a bribe of RM54,000, while the second person took RM12,000 from several people as an inducement to process their applications and conduct a land census under the state government,' the sources said. Sabah MACC director S Karunanithy confirmed the arrests, saying the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

PETALING JAYA : Five people, including a former bank officer, have been remanded for seven days for allegedly accepting RM300,000 in bribes to approve bank loans totalling RM11.3 million. The suspects in their 20s to 40s were initially believed to have accepted a bribe from the owner of a company as an inducement to approve a loan application using fake supporting documents, Sinar Harian reported. Preliminary investigations later led the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to believe that all five suspects had been doing this from 2022 to 2024, approving a total of RM11.3 million in loan applications from 39 applicants. Sabah MACC director S Karunanithy confirmed that the Sandakan sessions court approved their seven-day remand this morning.

The suspects, aged between their 20s and 40s, were detained between 2pm and 7pm today at the MACC office here. Initial investigations revealed they had been involved in approving RM11.2 million in loans for 39 applicants between 2022 and 2024 using forged supporting documents. Sabah MACC Director Datuk S Karunanithy confirmed the arrests, saying the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009 for accepting bribes concerning official duties. KUALA LUMPUR : The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a former secretary of an association on suspicion of submitting false documents in an application to obtain an allocation of RM85,000 from the Sabah chief minister. The suspect, a man in his 50s, was arrested at 9.40am today at the MACC office in Sabah and will be charged with the offence at the Kota Kinabalu special sessions court tomorrow. According to sources, the allocation in question was allegedly intended for the construction of an administrative building for the association in a district in Sabah. 'The suspect, who is also a headmaster, is believed to have submitted false documents when applying for the allocation,' the source said. Sabah MACC director S Karunanithy, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said that the suspect would face charges under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sabah said the funds were supposedly for building the association's administrative office in a district where the suspect also worked. The man in his 50s, who is also a suspended headmaster, was detained on Tuesday morning at the MACC office in Kota Kinabalu. He was previously charged with eight counts related to similar offences in May 2024.
