Sectarianism stoked to block Islamic rule: Fazl
JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has claimed that certain forces stoke the flames of sectarianism to sow discord among religious scholars of different schools of thought whenever calls are made for the imposition of an Islamic system in the country. "There are sectarian organisations in the country, but they fight each other only at the behest of some forces. Sectarianism is fanned whenever people raise their voice for an Islamic system," said Fazl on Saturday while addressing a digital media convention in the country's economic hub. Denouncing the official moon-sighting system, Fazl noted that the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has been operating without a legal framework, and attempts to access its founding documents or minutes have led nowhere. He said if there were a proper law in place, it would lead to accountability. "But the lack of legislation allows disputes among scholars over moon sighting to escalate into larger issues," he added. Fazl lamented that no code of conduct had been developed over the past 77 years regarding Muharram processions, calling it a deliberate omission intended to pit religious groups against one another. "At the state level, such measures are taken to keep religious factions in conflict," he said. He also criticised those who advocate a wall of separation between religion and state, arguing that religion is blamed too quickly for disorder. "However, sectarianism alone is not the sole cause of discord in the country. Ethnicity, provincialism, regionalism, and similar factors also contribute to unrest. At times, conflicts between Baloch and Pashtuns, Sindhis and Mohajirs, and other groups have led to disorder," he said. He said there has never been any dispute over the Objectives Resolution, and all schools of thought are united on the Islamic provisions of the Constitution. Fazl said the Constitution clearly states that no law can be made in the country that contradicts with teachings of Islam and its sharia. However, laws, according to him, are being made on the instruction of the International Monetary Fund, the Financial Action Task Force and the United Nations. In this regard, he cited the example of the recent passage of a bill banning marriage under the age of 18 in Islamabad and said the religion does not impose any such restrictions. Fazl said nowadays, highlighting vices is being considered news, especially when it comes to politicians. "One should not go around searching for people's faults and mistakes; this is a grave sin. When a person pursues someone to exploit their weaknesses, it is highly condemnable," he added. According to the JUI-F chief, some institutions running on our tax money sit in their offices and fabricate lies about politicians. He said in the media that the search for news and the effort to find good stories are natural. "However, it is also essential to avoid evil and to distinguish between what is halal and haram."

Eid celebrated in parts of Khyber district
KHYBER: Khyber district's Bara region witnessed divided Eid celebrations once again as nearly 30 percent of the local population observed Eidul Adha Friday, in line with Saudi Arabia. The rest of the population plans to celebrate the festival today (on Saturday), as per the official announcement by Pakistan's central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. According to the report, hundreds of worshippers offered Eid prayers in Bara. After the prayers, people returned to their homes to fulfil the Sunnat-e-Ibrahimi—the ritual animal sacrifice performed in remembrance of Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim's (AS) obedience to God. This year, Eid al-Adha fell on June 6 in Saudi Arabia and neighbouring Gulf countries, as well as Indonesia. Meanwhile, many other countries, including Pakistan and India, will observe it on June 7. Globally, there are approximately 1.9 billion Muslims— around 25 percent of the world's population. Indonesia has the largest Muslim population, with about 230 million, followed by Pakistan with 212 million, India with 200 million, Bangladesh with 150 million, and Nigeria with 100 million Muslims.

Four-day Eid holidays announced
The federal government on Friday announced four-day public holidays from Friday June 6 until Monday, June 9, on the occasion of Eidul Azha. According to Express News, the announcement was made after the approval of the prime minister. During the holidays, all government and private offices, educational institutions, and banks across the country will remain closed. The announcement was preceded by sighting of moon on May 27 by Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad said that the first day of Eidul Azha will be celebrated across Pakistan on June 7. .

The announcement was made by Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, who presided over a meeting to in Islamabad on Tuesday. Addressing a news conference, Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad stated that no credible testimonies of moon sighting had been received from any part of the country. "It was decided with consensus that the first day of Zil Hajj, will be on May 29, Thursday, and Eidul Azha will be observed on June 7, Saturday," he said. He also highlighted that the weather conditions across the country had hampered moon sighting efforts, with cloudy skies prevailing in most areas. The meeting was attended by members of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, along with representatives from SUPARCO and the Meteorological Department, who were present to provide assistance. In addition to the central meeting, zonal committee meetings were also held in cities such as Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, Peshawar, and other regions. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has confirmed Friday, June 6, as the first day of Eidul Azha after the Zil Hajj crescent was sighted on Tuesday with Hajj to take place on Thursday, June 5. Moon sighting committees across the Arab world and other Muslim-majority countries observed the crescent moon of Zil Hajjthe 12th and final month of the Islamic lunar calendaron Tuesday, May 27. The kingdom announced that the Zil Hajj crescent had been sighted, confirming that next Friday, June 6, will mark the first day of Eidul Azha. The United Arab Emirates also announced the moon sighting, declaring that Eidul zdha will be observed on Friday, June 6.

Pakistan to celebrate Eid Al-Adha on June 7
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's moon sighting committee announced today, Tuesday, that the crescent marking the beginning of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah was not sighted due to unclear skies and the Eid Al-Adha festival would commence from June 7. Dhul Hijjah is the twelfth and final month of the Islamic calendar, a sacred period during which the Hajj pilgrimage and Eid Al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, take place. It is one of the four holy months in Islam, with the first 10 days especially revered and considered among the best days of the year for performing righteous deeds. 'Today, in Pakistan, most areas experienced cloudy weather, and some areas had clear skies. The confirmation of sighting of the Dhul Hijjah moon has not been received from any part of Pakistan,' Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad said at a press conference. 'Hence unanimously [we have] decided that the first Dhul Hijjah, 1446 AH will be observed on Thursday, May 29 and Eid Al-Adha will be on Saturday, June 7, 2025.' Commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son on God's command, Muslims mark the Eid Al-Adha holiday by slaughtering animals such as sheep, cows and goats. The meat is shared among family and friends and also donated to the poor. Eid Al-Adha is observed on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, while the annual Hajj pilgrimage will commence on June 4.
