IndiGrid to acquire solar project and transmission asset in India
IndiGrid has announced its plan to acquire the solar project ReNew Solar Aayan, located in Rajasthan, and Koppal Narendra Transmission in Karnataka. The two transactions have a total value of approximately Rs21.08bn ($250m), as reported by the Economic Times. This excludes net working capital and cash adjustments. ReNew Solar Aayan Private Limited (RSAPL) is a 300MW alternating current solar project in Rajasthan's Barmer, an area with high solar radiation. Since March 2024, the operational project has had a secure revenue stream through a 25-year long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) at Rs2.37 per unit As a wholly-owned subsidiary of ReNew Solar Power Private Limited, RSAPL benefits from its proximity to RSUPL, an asset bought by IndiGrid in 2024. This acquisition is expected to enhance operational synergies and bolster IndiGrid's position in the renewable energy sector. Koppal Narendra Transmission is a build-own-operate-maintain interstate transmission system (ISTS) venture that has been operational since October 2023 in Karnataka. It features 276 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and has a transformation capacity of 2,500 mega volt-amperes. The ownership of this asset is split between ReNew Solar Power with a 51% stake and KNI India with the remaining 49%. KNI India is a joint venture formed by Norfund and KLP. IndiGrid will secure complete ownership and managerial authority over both entities. IndiGrid managing director Harsh Shah stated: "These acquisitions align with our long-term strategy to participate meaningfully in this transformation by owning and operating essential infrastructure that supports grid stability and energy access". The funding mix for this acquisition will include equity, internal accruals and debt financing. Post-acquisition, IndiGrid stated that its net debt-to-asset under management (AUM) ratio will be maintained at 62%, allowing room for further growth initiatives. Burglars sell stolen goods, splurge Rs2.5 lakh on MD
Nagpur: In a case underscoring the nexus between crime and drug addiction, Pachpaoli police arrested three burglars, including a minor, who stole valuables worth Rs 5 lakh from three homes in the city, only to blow nearly half the loot — Rs 2.5 lakh — on consuming MD (Mephedrone) powder. The trio, apprehended by head constable Laxman Shende's team, targeted residences in Ram Lohiya Nagar, Vaishali Nagar and Ashok Nagar over a month. Police recovered stolen goods, including jewellery, worth Rs2.37 lakh. The accused, Rohit Bhagat and Yash Bhave, both 19, along with the minor, have a history of thefts, according to senior inspector Baburao Raut. "These burglars would sell stolen valuables and splurge the money on purchasing MD powder," Raut said. The police are pursuing the narcotics supplier linked to the trio. The burglars would target locked houses, break latches and locks with rods or iron angles. "They struck at multiple places before being nabbed," said Raut. The minor has been sent to a juvenile facility, while Bhagat and Bhave face charges for burglary and related offences.

GST kitty swells 12.6% to record Rs 2.37trn in Apr
New Delhi: Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection rose 12.6 per cent y-o-y to an all-time high of about Rs2.37 lakh crore in April, reflecting strong economic activity and March-end reconciliation of books by businesses. The GST mop-up was Rs2.10 lakh crore in April 2024 -- the second highest collection ever since GST was rolled out on July 1, 2017. In March 2025, the collection was Rs1.96 lakh crore. According to the latest government data released on Thursday, GST revenue from domestic transactions rose 10.7 per cent to about Rs1.9 lakh crore, while revenue from imported goods was up 20.8 per cent to Rs46,913 crore. Refunds issuance rose 48.3 per cent to Rs27,341 crore during April.
