Tower, statue and park named after Vidyapati opened in Madhubani's Benipatti
Madhubani: Benipatti BJP MLA Vinod Narayan Jha inaugurated a tower, a statue, and a park dedicated to Vidyapati near Samsari Pokhar at Benipatti in Madhubani district on Wednesday. Constructed at a cost of Rs20 lakh, of which Rs14.5 lakhs was allocated from the local area discretionary fund, the initiative aims to honour the legacy of Vidyapati, a revered Maithili poet and scholar. Addressing the inaugural function held at Benipatti on Wednesday, Jha said Vidyapati (1352–1448), known as Maithil Kavi Kokil, was a Sanskrit polymath, poet, and playwright. Born to a Maithil Brahmin family, his name, meaning "master of knowledge,". It reflects his scholarly prowess in Sanskrit, Prakrit, Apabhramsha, and Maithili, Jha said. Vinod Narain Jha further said that Vidyapati served as a court poet and priest under the Oiniwar dynasty, notably for kings Kīrttisiṃha, Devasimha, and Sivasimha, with whom he shared a close friendship. His works include the praise-poem Kīrtilatā, the prose Bhūparikramaṇa, and over 500 love songs about Radha and Krishna (1380–1406), which shaped Maithili literature and influenced Bengali, Assamese, and Oriya traditions, Jha added. Prominent among others who addressed the gathering included former president of Chetna Samiti Vijay Kumar Thakur; its present secretary and treasurer, Umesh Mishra and Jaydeva Mishra, respectively. A prominent Maithili litterateur Rangnath Diwakar, senior BJP leader Hitendra Thakur and others were also present. Drugs, gutka worth 14.5L seized, three arrested
Nashik: The Nashik city police seized mephedrone (MD), banned gutka, and vehicles involved in smuggling in two separate actions, with the total seizure valued at Rs14.5 lakh. In the first case, the crime branch unit arrested two persons for allegedly carrying MD for sale. Acting on a tip-off received by Assistant Sub-Inspector Gulab Sonar, the police laid a trap in the Manur area on the Nashik–Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Road. Senior Inspector Sushila Kolhe of the Anti-Narcotics Squad was also part of the operation. "The police intercepted an autorickshaw in which Sumit Ashok Dhayinje (27, resident of Lokhande Mala, Hanumantnagar, Upnagar) and Shakir Hasan Sayyed (32, resident of Wadalagaon) were travelling. We found 4.5 grams of MD worth Rs22,500 from Dhayinje's possession and another 4 grams worth Rs20,000 in possession of Sayyed," said the police. A total of 8.5 grams of MD worth Rs45,000, along with the autorickshaw and a mobile phone, collectively valued at Rs2.1 lakh, were seized. A complaint was registered at the Adgaon police station. "Muktar Shaikh from Crime Branch Unit One received information that pan masala and gutka were being transported through Peth Road. Accordingly, the team laid a trap," the police said. During inspection, police found gutka worth Rs5.4 lakh being transported from Saputara in Gujarat. A pickup vehicle worth Rs7 lakh was also seized, bringing the total value of seized goods to Rs12.4 lakh.

Punjab Ombudsman secures Rs40.96m relief for citizens
LAHORE: On the directives of the Office of Ombudsman Punjab, a total relief of Rs40.958 million was provided to 36 citizens in response to complaints regarding WASA billing corrections, property area disputes, and sewerage system issues across various districts. According to a statement issued on Thursday, 18 complainants received relief amounting to Rs1.377 million after raising concerns over errors in WASA bills and discrepancies in property measurements. Through the Ombudsman's mediation, 12 complaints related to sewerage line blockages were addressed, with repair work carried out at a cost of Rs13.9 million. In a separate case in Nankana Sahib, a land area measuring 31 kanals - valued at Rs14.5 million - was rectified following a citizen's complaint. Meanwhile, repair work on a park in Lahore was completed at an expense of Rs2.635 million. Furthermore, Rs600,000 was spent on the de-silting of a drain in Nawabpur, Sargodha, while three drinking water supply schemes were completed at a cost of Rs7.946 million. Pakistan steel exporter sets up subsidiary in Ireland to tap European markets
International Industries Limited (IIL), one of Pakistan's largest manufacturers and exporters of steel and polymer pipes, has launched a wholly-owned subsidiary in Ireland called INIL Europe Limited. The listed steel exporter shared the development in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday. 'A new venture has now been launched by IIL in Europe. The company has set up a fully owned subsidiary, 'INIL Europe Limited,' in Ireland, with the primary goal of expanding its global presence by trading its products in Ireland and other European Union countries,' read the notice. The company stated that it remains focused on the sustainable expansion of both its domestic and export portfolios, while also exploring new revenue opportunities. 'To this end, the company is evaluating various new ventures, planning to introduce new products, and targeting exciting new markets. In line with this strategic direction, IIL has already established subsidiaries such as IIL Australia Pty Ltd. in Australia, IIL Americas Inc. in Canada, and IIL Trading (Pvt) Ltd. in Pakistan.' International Steels Limited Over the past five years, IIL's exports have surpassed $150 million, with its products sold in more than 60 countries, including Australia, North America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia. The company believed that the new European subsidiary would play a key role in opening new markets for IIL products and promoting the 'Pakistan' brand in Europe. 'This venture will also contribute to earning foreign exchange, supporting the economic growth and sustainability of both IIL and the country. The company is confident of leveraging its brand and reputation to establish a rewarding niche in Europe,' it added. Incorporated in Pakistan in 1948, IIL is the country's largest manufacturer of steel and polymer pipes with an annual manufacturing capacity of 817,000 tons and annual revenues of Rs37.8 billion. The company has an equity of Rs14.5 billion and has featured on the listing of Pakistan's Top 25 Companies for the last 14 years.
