'Mistakes happen': Ronwen gets love, rage from Sundowns fans

Ronwen Williams' performance in the Mamelodi Sundowns vs Borussia Dortmund Fifa Club World Cup has left many South Africans hot and bothered. The Masandawana goalkeeper and captain became a trending topic on the X platform after the South African club lost 3-4 to the German club. Sundowns is the only SA club to compete at the tournament. On Saturday, 21 June, Sundowns faced off against Dortmund in their second group stage match. The final whistle blew at 3-4 in Dortmund's favour. On social media, many South African soccer fans blamed Sundowns captain Ronwen Williams for being behind a series of errors which they believe cost the club a victory. One was his accidental passing to Dortmund striker Felix Nmecha, who used the opportunity to score a goal. On the X, some fans like DJ Mo Flava supported Ronwen, adding that 'mistakes happen'. When Sports channel ESPN Africa posed the question to its followers: 'Keep or drop Ronwen Williams?', many agreed with the DJ. @phungula_BC: 'Definitely keep. All ball-playing keepers are bound to make mistakes from time to time, Ronwen is no exception'. @LondzMkhumbuzi: 'It happens to everyone, top goalkeepers bounce back stronger.' Others weren't so forgiving of the Sundowns captain. @VictorVeeM: 'When we said don't compare him to [Itumeleng] Khune, they told us that we don't know football'. @KingBaloyii: 'He has reached the expiry date'. Sundowns are set for a make-or-break match against Brazil's Fluminense on Tuesday, 24 June, in their final Fifa Club World Cup group stage match. The SA club currently ranks third in Group F, under Dortmund and Fluminense. A victory would secure them a spot in the Round of 16, regardless of Dortmund's result against South Korea's Ulsan, who have yet to score in the tournament. In the case of a draw, SA could only advance if Ulsan beat the German team by a long shot. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1 . Mamelodi Sundowns: What they need to do to qualify for Round of 16 revealed

Mamelodi Sundowns head into their final Group F match against Fluminense with destiny in their hands. Mamelodi Sundowns take on Fluminense in an eagerly-anticipated FIFA Club World Cup decider with fate in their own hands. Masandawana started off their campaign with a 1-0 win over Uldan. Thereafter, they lost 4-3 to German giants Borussia Dortmund. So, Sundowns have it all to play for when they take on Fluminense. The top two teams from each of the each groups will qualify for the Round of 16. As things stand, Dortmund lead group F with four points from two matches. Meanwhile, Fluminense and Sundowns are locked on three points a-piece. However, the Tshwane Giants are behind on goal difference after Fluminense 4-2 win over Uldan. Therefore, Sundowns have to WIN to qualify for the Round of 16. A win will secure Sundowns safe passage into the next round. Whilst, a draw would see them eliminated. Likewise, a loss. The equation is simple but the task is huge – win at all costs. History beckons for Sundowns. Speaking of costs, Sundowns have racked in millions of rands during the competition. Furthermore, they still have millions to play for. Sundowns have already secured over R200 million. The Brazilians received R170 million for participation and R35 million from their victory over Uldan. Therefore, they have made R205 million already in the FIFA Club World Cup. Now, they have another R35 million up for grabs. If they are able to beat Fluminense, they will secure R35 million. Meanwhile, a draw would see them bag R20 million. UPS driver DQ'ed from U.S. Open final qualifying for boneheaded scorecard mistake

UPS driver DQ'ed from U.S. Open final qualifying for boneheaded scorecard mistake Nick Barrett didn't qualify for the U.S. Open at Oakmont on Monday but he's in contention for one of the bonehead moves of the year in golf. Barrett, a 31-year-old UPS driver from Catonsville, Maryland, posted 73 in the first round at Woodmont Country Club, his final stage of qualifying, and then forgot to sign his scorecard in the allotted time. The result? Disqualification. According to Monday Q Info's Ryan French and the Baltimore Sun's Edward Lee, Barrett didn't remember to return his scorecard to the scorer's tent until 20 minutes after finishing his round. By then, it was ruled too late. Barrett accepted that he was responsible for the mistake. 'It's really upsetting to go out like that because it wasn't anything I did on the course or because I signed something wrong,' he said. 'I just got caught up in the moment. That was my responsibility, and I just didn't do it.' 'I was starting to feel a little bit more comfortable with my game,' he added. 'I'm not saying I was going to go out there and shock the world, but I was feeling a lot better after playing the first round. It's just a real shame that I couldn't go back out there.' Barrett previously reached the final qualifying stage for the U.S. Open in 2023 and advanced to the Round of 32 in the 2024 U.S. Mid-Amateur. Barrett had advanced through local qualifying by shooting 68 on May 5. 'If people hear this, for me specifically, I can take this as a learning experience,' he said. 'I've never had a problem with rules in the past, and it only takes one time for you to feel this way to never want to feel it again.'

Explained: Inter Milan's yellow kit choice for Champions League final vs PSG

The 2025 UEFA Champions League final, held on May 31, 2025, at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, marks a historic clash between Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). As the match kicks off, fans have noticed an unusual sight: Inter Milan, the Nerazzurri, are donning their vibrant yellow third kit instead of their iconic black-and-blue stripes. This article explores the reasons behind Inter's unique kit choice for this monumental match. UEFA Kit Regulations In the UEFA Champions League, kit selections are governed by strict regulations to ensure visual clarity for players, referees, and spectators. For the 2025 final, PSG were designated as the 'home' team based on the UEFA tournament bracket, determined months earlier during the draw process. As the home side, PSG have the priority to wear their traditional home kit, featuring navy blue shorts and shirts with a central red and white stripe. Inter's classic black-and-blue striped home kit, a symbol of the club's identity, was deemed too similar in color to PSG's home strip, risking a visual clash on the pitch. UEFA rules prohibit such conflicts, requiring the away team—Inter, in this case—to select an alternative kit that provides clear distinction. Why the Third Kit Over the Second? Inter had two options to avoid the clash: their second kit (typically white with blue details) or their third kit (a striking golden yellow design with black accents). Surprisingly, Inter opted for the third kit, a decision that has sparked curiosity among fans. While the white second kit could have sufficed, reports indicate that the choice of the yellow third kit was unanimously supported by the players themselves, possibly influenced by superstition and past success. This season, Inter wore the golden yellow third kit twice in the Champions League, securing victories both times: a 1-0 win against Sparta Prague in the league phase in January and a 2-0 triumph over Feyenoord in the Round of 16. This winning streak in the yellow kit may have fueled a sense of confidence, leading Inter to embrace it for the final.
