Jim James Remembers Brian Wilson: ‘Thank You for Sharing Your Love With Us'
A few years ago, Jim James got to witness Brian Wilson's magic in realtime. They were in the studio together recording 'Right Where I Belong,' a song from the documentary film Brian Wilson: Long Promised Road. The record turned out to be the last original song Wilson would release in his lifetime. The musician died this week at the age of 82. It also proved to be an experience James would never forget. 'I'll never forget hearing Brian sing the song we were working on together for the first time,' James shared in a statement to Rolling Stone. 'That VOICE…hearing it pop out of the speakers in real life brought me to tears. I had to turn back into a corner and collect myself.' When 'Right Where I Belong' was released in 2021, the My Morning Jacket member put Wilson's music into the context of his own life, noting, 'It has always been there with me in celebrating life's greatest triumphs and has also sustained me through some of my darkest hours.' John Stamos Remembers Brian Wilson: ‘His Voice Is Part of the Divine Chorus'
For John Stamos, Beach Boys frontman Brian Wilson 'didn't just soundtrack' his life, the legendary founder of California rock 'filled it with color, with wonder, with some of the most unforgettable, emotional, joyful moments I've ever known.'Following news of Wilson death at the age of 82, Stamos honored the Beach Boys' chief songwriter in a tribute shared to social media on Wednesday. 'It's hard to put into words what it meant to stand beside him, laugh with him, play his music with him,' wrote Stamos, who played frequently with the group. 'Brian wasn't just a musical genius, he was a gentle, soulful, funny, complex, beautiful man. He heard things no one else could hear. He felt things deeper than most of us ever will. And somehow, he turned all of that into music that wrapped itself around the world and made us all feel less alone.' Stamos said that he 'grew up worshipping the Beach Boys' and never imagined that one day he'd 'get to play with them, let alone call Brian a friend.' The musician-actor, who performed with the band on the set of Full House and appeared in their music videos, said that the 1966 album Pet Sounds and its singles 'God Only Knows' and 'Wouldn't It Be Nice' not only played 'in the background of our lives, they shaped who we were.' 'They shaped who I became,' continued Stamos. 'His music made me feel things I didn't know how to say. It made me want to make people feel the way his music made me feel. So much of my life and career, so much of me, exists because of what Brian created.' Stamos was among the numerous celebrities who shared tributes remembering Wilson, including Mick Fleetwood, Elton John, Nancy Sinatra, and surviving Beach Boys co-founders Mike Love and Al Jardine. Toward the end of his post, Stamos recalled Wilson once saying, 'Music is God's voice.' Stamos wrote, 'I believe he was right, and now that voice, his voice, is part of the divine chorus. Macklemore's Seattle Home Robbed, Nanny Sprayed With Bear Mace
Burglars broke into a home in Seattle belonging to Macklemore over the weekend, spraying a nanny with bear mace and stealing 'thousands of dollars of items' while three children were in the residence. The incident occurred just after midnight on Saturday, June 7, in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood, according to a police report obtained by Rolling Stone. The two suspects entered the house, confronted the nanny with the mace, then 'ransacked the residence.' The suspects were reportedly inside the house for several minutes until the nanny was able to free herself and call 911. The suspects fled soon after. The children in the house were not harmed and were put in the care of family members. The home address, however, matched those on Macklemore's voting record, per The Seattle Times. It does not appear that Macklemore was home at the time of the robbery. The musician played a pair of concerts in Ireland on June 4 and 5, and was scheduled to perform at a festival in Frankfurt, Germany, on June 8, but canceled his appearance at the last minute. The festival wrote in a statement, 'Due to unforeseen circumstances, Macklemore had to return to Seattle to attend to an urgent matter… This decision was not made lightly and we apologize to all his fans eager to see the show.' A rep for Macklemore did not immediately return Rolling Stone's request for comment. According to the nanny, the robbery occurred not long after she had put the three children to bed. The nanny said the suspects entered via a patio door, confronted her, and sprayed her in the face with the mace. She said one suspect actually tried to help her clean it off her face 'for some unexplainable reason.' While the nanny said this suspect looked 'fearful,' the other one started yelling at her, 'Where are the jewels, bitch?' The nanny said she showed the men where the valuable items in the house were, and they took jewelry, watches, and shoes. The suspects also pushed the woman to the ground, took her phone, and tried to restrain her, but the nanny said she was able to get free by biting one of them. She then ran from the house and knocked on the doors of neighbors before one let her in and allowed her to call the police. The nanny also suggested to police that she thought the robbery could have been politically motivated, though the police report did not contain any further details or evidence related to this assumption. Macklemore has long been outspoken on a variety of issues, and has lately focused much of his energy on speaking out against Israel's war in Gaza. Lil Wayne Wows the BET Awards With ‘A Milli' Performance
Tha Carter VI season is in full effect, as attendees of the BET Awards learned during Lil Wayne's performance at 'Culture's Biggest Night.' Wayne, who just dropped his Tha Carter VI album, invigorated the crowd with his rendition of 'A Milli,' preceded by his new track 'Welcome to The Carter.' Wayne was backed by a choir in in red Young Money robes who kicked off the gospel-esque hook of 'Welcome to Tha Carter,' the second song on Tha Carter VI. The smoke-shrouded stage then went lava red with frentic lights as Wayne broke into his Tha Carter III hit 'A Milli.' The audience could be heard thunderously rapping along. Kendrick Lamar's ‘GNX' Wins Album of The Year at The 2025 BET Awards
Kendrick Lamar took home the award for Album of the Year at the 2025 BET Awards, beating out Beyoncé, The Weeknd, Drake, and more, and adding to the impressive string of accolades for the L.A. rapper following his now-infamous feud with Drake. His award was presented to him by actor Keke Palmer. During his acceptance speech, he acknowledged that he hasn't often attended the BET Awards in recent years, but said it's always been important to him. 'I ain't been here in a long time,' he said, 'BET always makes sure that they represent the culture right, and always put me in the midst of the cycle of what we represent, and that's real, true down to Earth music that people can feel. So I always give my heart to BET.' He looked towards the back of the crowd and showed out 'All my L.A. natives' before thanking God and his company, PG Lang.
