Maharashtra approves Rs 2 crore for farmers' foreign study tours

Mumbai: The state govt has approved Rs 2 crore for organising foreign study tours for farmers in the state this year. Last year, the state govt approved Rs 1.4 crore for 120 farmers and six officials for foreign tours to study modern agriculture. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "Administrative approval is being given to the programme of Rs 2 crore budgeted for implementing the scheme 'study tours of farmers of the state abroad' in the year 2025-26. The said scheme should be implemented as per the provisions prescribed by the govt and accordingly, guidelines should be issued by the commissioner (agriculture) for the implementation of the said scheme," a govt resolution (GR) stated. "The scheme was started to make the farmers of the state aware of the developed and modern technologies of various advanced countries, as well as to make them aware of the export of agricultural products/marketing of agricultural products and market demand, agricultural product processing, and the latest technologies used in those countries and to help the farmers of the state use them on their farms/farming. The visits also provide information about agricultural technologies and related matters developed by various countries and enhance the knowledge and capacity of the farmers through direct discussions with the farmers of those countries, as well as through field visits, visits to relevant institutions. The scheme has been running since 2004-2005," said an official from the agriculture department. Officials added that the detailed itinerary, including the country farmers will visit, will be finalised soon. Last year, NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar slammed the agriculture department for the meagre funds for sending farmers abroad. Rohit said Rs 1.88 crore was provided by the state govt for a three-day visit to Taiwan where only five officials travelled, but the govt is spending only Rs 1.4 crore to send 120 farmers abroad. "That means only Rs 1.2 lakh is spent for each farmer. Even now, Rs 34 crore has been allocated for the Davos tour (to attend World Economic Forum), where 70 people are going with the chief minister. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Does this mean that this govt is not for the general public but for a select few? Is it 'World Economic Forum' or 'World Expenditure Conference'? It is understood that 70 people are going on this tour with the CM. Let's talk about how many of these 70 are decision-makers after getting statistics," Rohit said in a post on X last year.

Bawankule meets protesting Bachchu Kadu, Cong backs his stir

Nagpur/Amravati: Guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Friday met ex-MLA Bachchu Kadu at Amravati and urged him to end his indefinite fast, which has continued for six days now. On Friday, the Congress also threw its weight behind Kadu's ongoing agitation for farmers, just a day after NCP (Sharad) MLA Rohit Pawar drove down to the Amravati protest site where Kadu is on indefinite fast. Earlier this week, Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange, and ex-minister Anil Deshmukh too met Kadu. Bawankule's visit to Kadu is seen as an important development as the monsoon session of the legislature is scheduled from June 30. Congress state president Harshwardhan Sapkal said, "Congress has decided to back Kadu's ongoing agitation, which addresses various farmers' issues. The concerns raised by Kadu are real. Farmers are facing a severe crisis, with no fair prices for their produce, a high rate of farmer suicides in the state, and unfulfilled election promises of loan waivers by the ruling government. As a result, farmers, already in distress, are completely hopeless and disheartened. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like מהפכת החשמל מגיעה אליכם: עד 20% הנחה בחשבון החשמל החודשי Hot Energy מידע נוסף Undo In such a situation, there is a need for everyone to stand in solidarity with the farmers." Earlier on Friday, high drama unfolded at the protest site, when a member of Kadu's Prahar Janshakti Party consumed poison, and was rushed to the hospital by the medical team present on site. The activist, identified as Ajay Bhagwatrao Chaudhary, has been admitted to a private hospital at Warud. Chaudhary, like many other Prahar activists, had turned restless on Friday citing 'government's apathy' towards Kadu's Annatyag Andolan, now into its sixth day, at Gurukunj Mozari (about 30km from Amravati city). Kadu's agitation raises issues related to farmers, divyangs, widows, fishermen etc. Before Bawankule's visit too the govt has tried to persuade Kadu to withdraw the agitation. Ministers Bharat Gogawale, Pankaja Munde and Jaykumar Gore held online meetings with Kadu, who expressed his resolve to continue the agitation as no concrete assurance reportedly came out of these meetings. As the monsoon session of the legislature is set to begin later this month, NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar has already hinted that Kadu's agitation will be an issue discussed there. Now with Congress backing Kadu, the opposition seems to have found a cause to take up on the floor of the house. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Maharashtra Politics: Are Decks Clear For NCP-NCPSP Merger? Chatter Grows About NDA Crossing 300-Mark

Is Maharashtra's political landscape set to witness another twist? There are indications but no concrete answers as of now but the talks of Ajit Pawar-led NCP's merger with Sharad Pawar-led NCP-SP has once against ignited political debates. Ajit Pawar recently shared dias with Sharad Pawar in Pune and those aware of the matter said that the two leaders held separate talks about the reunion. Meanwhile, NCP-SP leader Rohit Pawar also dropped a big hint about the possible reunification of the two warring factions. Speaking to reporters, Rohit Pawar said that senior Pawar has entrusted Supriya Sule with the task and she will take the final call after discussing it with party leaders. He said that while Sharad Pawar has been hinting at a possible alliance with Ajit Pawar, there may be some twist with respect to the BJP. Rohit Pawar said that Sharad Pawar is known for making decisions which are mostly unexpected and totally out of the blue. "What unfolds in the coming days will depend on him, but he will always take a decision in favour of the people," Rohit said. While NCP leaders like Rohit and Anil Deshmukh have maintained that no official talks have been held so far between the two parties, the clamour around the merger has already forced leaders to vie for key party posts. Notably, if the merger happens, Praful Patel and Supriya Sule will be among the top contenders for the Modi cabinet. The chatters have also grown on social media with people claiming that the NCP-NCPSP merger could take place in June itself and thus, the BJP-led NDA's number in the Lok Sabha may go beyond the 300 mark. Notably, the NDA has 293 seats in the Lok Sabha and if the NCPSP joins the alliance, then its tally will go to 301 with the eight seats of Shara Pawar's party. NCP-SP's merger or joining of the NDA will deal a big jolt to the Maha Vikas Aghadi in Maharashtra where the Congress and Shiv Sena-UBT are largely dependent on the NCP-SP in regions like Western Maharashtra and Marathawada.

Rohit Pawar hints at likely NCP merger

Mumbai: Rohit Pawar , a member of the Sharad Pawar family, has stirred the pot regarding a possible merger with the Ajit Pawar faction , stating that Supriya Sule would clarify the issue. Rohit Pawar, MLA and grandnephew of Sharad Pawar, was asked about merger talks and mentioned that it would be up to Supriya Sule to make the final decision. "Saheb (Sharad Pawar) has entrusted Supriya with this responsibility, and until she returns and speaks clearly on the matter... Supriya is currently abroad (with an all-party delegation for Operation Sindoor). She will return on May 5th, and after that, we are all waiting for her views," said Rohit Pawar, speaking at an event in Pune on Saturday. Rohit further claimed that no discussions have taken place among party leaders or MLAs, like himself, about merging with the NCP (Ajit faction). "Until Supriya returns and clarifies, we won't be able to shed light on this," he added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play War Thunder now for free War Thunder Play Now Undo He hinted that, while Sharad Pawar has been signaling a potential alliance with the Ajit Pawar faction and the BJP , there could still be a twist. "No one knows what's in Pawar saheb's mind. When he takes a decision, it's often unexpected and totally out of the blue. If he speaks politically, something different may happen. What unfolds in the coming days will depend on him, but he will always take a decision in favor of the people," Rohit said. It is significant that when the Ajit Pawar faction split and formed an alliance with the BJP, the Sharad Pawar faction opposed the move, citing ideological differences with the BJP. Live Events
