WVDOT Secretary of Transportation explains overhaul plans laid down by Governor Morrisey
People are wondering if there will be lay-offs or lost jobs, or if current projects will be stalled until funding has been made available again.
Thankfully, Secretary of Transportation and Commissioner of Highways can lay many of these questions to rest.
He said it is not about a lack of funding at all.
'The current funding here with the Department of Transportation is returning back down to the levels we had prior to the Roads to Prosperity, close to the same amount. This year it is up a little bit above that due to the fact that we still have several of the Roads to Prosperity contracts being constructed and those dollar amounts when they're figured into the budget has it a little bit higher than it was prior to the Roads of Prosperity,' said Secretary Rumbaugh.
Secretary Rumbaugh said the current DOT budget is right around $2.2 billion.
He said during the Roads to Prosperity project, several managers were hired to assist with allocation of the funds; he assured that those people will be transitioned into other roles within the DOT.
Secretary Rumbaugh further said that all current projects will continue as funding has already been secured for them.
