Ellie Douglas was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash in Bathgate. A Scots teen who died in a horror crash with an HGV lorry has been named locally. Ellie Douglas, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene after a Volkswagen Polo she was travelling in collided with a lorry at Boghead Roundabout in Bathgate on Monday, June 9, at around 11:50pm. A GoFundMe created to help the family with the costs of arranging a funeral described the teen as a 'beautiful soul.' It said: " Ellie was a beautiful soul who lit up every room with her humour and warmth. She was a wee gem at our quiz nights and always brought joy to those around her. "She had just completed her Level 5 in hairdressing and was full of excitement to begin her career." Tia Thomson said: "You were loved by everyone. Fly high, my girl, thinking of you always." Fiona Gibney commented: "RIP, beautiful, keep shining bright." Lee Duncan said: "Fly high with the angels. It's heartbreaking news that we have all had to deal with. RIP Ellie." Warren Scott added: "RIP Ellie, you were taken far too soon. You will be missed so much." Inspector Ben Legge, of the Road Policing Unit, said: 'Enquiries are continuing to understand the full circumstances of what happened. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the young girl who died. 'I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who may have dash-cam footage, and has not yet spoken to or provided this information to officers, to contact us as soon as possible. 'The road re-opened around 4pm on Tuesday, 10 June. I would like to thank members of the public for their patience while we carried our investigation at the scene. "Anyone with information should call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3775 of Monday, 9 June, 2025."
