Gwalior Cheetas secure first win in MPL 2025, defeat Jabalpur Royal Lions by 15 runs

Bhopal: Gwalior Cheetas secured their first win in the Madhya Pradesh League 2025, defeating Jabalpur Royal Lions by 15 runs. After facing consecutive losses, Gwalior's triumph came through Rishabh Chauhan's outstanding unbeaten 93. Jabalpur, chasing 191, managed only 176 runs, marking their second loss in three matches. Gwalior's innings began shakily, losing two opening wickets at 29 runs. They reached 54 for three wickets in the powerplay. Parth Sahni and Rishabh contributed a 33-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Following Parth's dismissal, Rishabh shouldered the batting responsibility independently. Rishabh accelerated after his fifty, striking six boundaries and six maximums in his 47-ball knock. Additional support from other batsmen could have helped Gwalior surpass 200 runs. For Jabalpur's bowling, Ritesh Shakya displayed excellent control, claiming one wicket whilst conceding just 12 runs in three overs. During the chase, Jabalpur lost both openers in the powerplay despite scoring 56 runs. Siddharth Patidar and Abhishek Bhandari's 79-run stand for the third wicket kept them competitive. Patidar departed for 44 off 33 deliveries, with the score at 122 in the 14th over. Bhandari's dismissal for 53 runs from 35 balls at 143 marked Gwalior's resurgence. They dominated the final five overs with regular wickets. Mangesh Yadav emerged as Gwalior's premier bowler, claiming four wickets whilst conceding 23 runs in his quota. June 18 marks the start of women's matches with Bhopal Wolves Women versus Bundelkhand Bulls Women, followed by Jabalpur Royal Lions against Chambal Ghariyals.
