Regina police investigating death near Grand Coulee as homicide

A Regina Police Service (RPS) cruiser can be seen in this file photo. (David Prisciak/CTV News) Regina police are now treating a death investigation as a homicide — after the body of a man was found near Grand Coulee last week. On June 10, RCMP officers were called to a rural area west of Regina, near the community of Grand Coulee, after a body was discovered. He has been identified as 35-year-old Aron Lunan of Regina. Through an investigation, police believe that the crime originated within the city. As a result, the Regina Police Service's major crimes unit has taken over the investigation. RCMP initially reported that Lunan was last seen in North Central Regina. Investigators urge anyone who had been in contact with Lunan between the afternoon of Monday, June 9 and Tuesday, June 10 to contact police or submit an anonymous tip to Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers. Grand Coulee is located approximately 12 kilometres west of Regina.

Regina police have responded to 54 suspected overdoses in the past week

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Health has issued an overdose alert for Regina after a sharp rise in suspected overdoses and deaths in the city over the past week. Between June 5 and 12, Regina Police Service responded to 54 suspected overdoses — with 12 of those calls happening on Wednesday alone. Four people are believed to have died from suspected overdoses during that time. Fentanyl is suspected in many of the incidents, and several cases required multiple doses of naloxone (Narcan). The alert will remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. on June 19, 2025. The Ministry of Health says if you see someone experiencing an overdose, call 911, administer naloxone if available, and stay with the person until help arrives.
