Andhra High Court pulls up state govt over delay in setting up PCA cells
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday directed the State government to file a counter over delay in setting up the Police Complaint Authority (PCA) cells at district level. Hearing a petition filed by a differently-abled person Tirumala Krishna of Mahanandi in Kurnool district, who claimed that 13 FIRs were filed against him across the State for a single social media post, Justice Nunepally Harinath found fault with the government for failing to set up the State and district-level PCA cells. The petitioner alleged that the 'Red Book' rule prevailed in the State, with unchecked police high-handedness. Representing the petitioner, advocate V Surender Reddy argued that the police were acting arbitrarily and unreasonably. He noted that Section 111 of BNS was invoked against his client merely for a social media post, despite the clear ruling from both the Supreme Court and the High Court against such misuse. He further emphasised that the Supreme Court had previously issued clear instructions to set up PCA cells at both the State and district levels to address grievances against police harassment, but these directives have not been implemented by the State. Later, the matter was posted to July 17.

Kuppam assault reflects inhumane governance: Former Andhra CM Jagan
VIJAYAWADA: YSRCP chief and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the TDP-led NDA government, slamming Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu over a disturbing incident at Narayanapuram village in Kuppam constituency. Jagan accused the NDA government of failing to protect women, highlighting the alleged torture of a woman named Sirisha, who was tied to a tree by a TDP activist over an unpaid debt by her husband Thimmarayappa. In a strongly worded post on X, the YSRCP chief questioned the safety and dignity of women under the NDA government, emphasising that the horrific event unfolded in Naidu's home constituency. He alleged that Sirisha's children cried helplessly as the TDP activist showed no mercy, refusing to release her. Labelling it a direct result of the TDP's 'inhumane governance', Jagan further flayed the ruling party for fostering a culture of violence, linking such atrocities to the controversial 'Red Book'. Jagan demanded that the government treat the incident with utmost seriousness, and take strict legal action against the perpetrators, calling for accountability amid what he described as a rising tide of injustices against women across the State.

Naidu, brand ambassador for backstabbing politics: Parvathareddy
Nellore: Describing Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu as the brand ambassador for backstabbing politics, YSRCP Nellore city in-charge and MLC Parvathareddy Chandrasekhar Reddy has alleged that Naidu is encouraging backstabbing politics to divert people's attention from his government's failures. Parvathareddy along with Zilla Parishad chairperson Anam Arunamma and MLC Meriga Muralidhar has unveiled a book over the failures of TDP-led coalition government during its one-year rule, titled 'Vennupotu' at party district office here on Sunday. The YSRCP leader sarcastically stated that resorting to backstabbing politics is very common for Chandrababu Naidu, as he illegally grabbed power from his father-in-law and former CM NT Rama Rao. He criticised that the coalition government has completely failed in implementing its 140 promises given to people during 2024 electioneering. He warned that people of the State are closely monitoring the situation and they would teach a befitting lesson to TDP in appropriate time. MLC M Muralidhar has alleged that coalition government is terrorising public with the implementation of its 'Red Book' constitution, making them to be panic and fear as to what will happen in the next minute. He opined that the huge public response to their party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's visits clearly shows that they are regretting their fault in not voting for YSRCP in 2024 elections. 'Good days are ahead for YSRCP since it will surely resume power again,' he stated.

Experts celebrate as trail camera captures rare footage of elusive species in forest: 'Spotting and identifying them is a rarity'
A trail camera recently captured an incredibly rare sight: a snow leopard roaming through the Arshaty forestry area in Kazakhstan's Katon-Karagay National Park, according to Kazinform International News Agency. The sighting is a promising sign that conservation efforts in the region are working. Snow leopards, listed as endangered in Kazakhstan's Red Book, are famously elusive. Found mostly in rugged alpine terrain, these big cats are incredibly difficult to spot in the wild, with less than 7,000 remaining globally, making each confirmed sighting valuable for researchers working to protect the species. The latest image is more than just a picture to share on social media; it's a key data point in understanding snow leopard behavior and population trends. Trail cameras are helping scientists gauge the health of endangered species and measure the success of rehabilitation efforts across remote ecosystems. In 2018, Kazakhstan launched an ambitious conservation program supported by the U.N. Development Programme, deploying nearly 300 camera traps, thermal imaging equipment, drones, and GPS collars across protected snow leopard habitats. Researchers also track individual leopards through DNA samples and their distinctive fur patterns, all with the goal of monitoring their movement and population structures as well as improving long-term species survival. The effort appears to be working. According to the Kazakh Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the country's snow leopard population has grown by 20% since 2019, with an estimated 150 to 190 individuals — more than double the population from three decades ago. But the return of snow leopard populations offers more than just an environmental win; it's also a boost to humanity's well-being. Mountain ecosystems supported by these apex predators can provide essential resources for nearby communities and people around the world, including clean water, medicinal plants, and materials such as lumber. By helping regulate prey populations, snow leopards protect those ecosystems from overgrazing and degradation, which can lead to fewer available resources and increased risk of natural disasters including landslides and drought. Maintaining this balance supports food security, public health, and long-term economic stability for rural and urban communities alike. "This is important evidence that the measures we've taken to protect nature are working. Monitoring of wildlife is ongoing," the ministry said. "Let's work together to save the snow leopard!" Added Alexey Grachyov, head of Kazakhstan's snow leopard monitoring center: "Studying them is a formidable challenge. Spotting and identifying them is a rarity." Supreme Court verdict a slap on Chandrababu's face: YSRCP
Anantapur: The Supreme Court's verdict in the arrest case of senior journalist Kommineni Srinivasa Rao is a clear slap on Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's face, said YSRCP Anantapur district president Anantha Venkatarami Reddy. He stated that the Supreme Court bench questioned how a case could be filed against Kommineni just for comments made by a panelist during a Sakshi TV debate. 'This verdict is a strong step toward safeguarding democracy,' he said. He alleged that despite senior journalist Kommineni and the Sakshi media having no connection to the comments made by political analyst Krishnamraju during a recent debate, TDP leaders launched a statewide campaign of unrest, falsely implicating them. At the same time, he accused them of spreading malicious propaganda against former CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and his wife Bharath. Reddy further condemned the orchestrated attacks on Sakshi media offices across the state, demanding the immediate arrest of those involved. He criticized the coalition government for governing like a dictatorship for the past year, using illegal arrests and false cases to suppress opposition. The Supreme Court's observations clearly reveal that basic legal norms were not followed in Kommineni's arrest, he added. Calling the state's ongoing governance a 'Red Book regime,' Reddy asserted that the Court's ruling exposes the arrest as unlawful and undemocratic. He said the Supreme Court's remarks reflect the deteriorating state of democracy in Andhra Pradesh, and demanded that the coalition government start upholding the Ambedkar Constitution in spirit and practice.
