Ramadoss should reject BJP and ‘politics of hate', promote peace between the Vanniyars and the Dalits, says VCK MP

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi general secretary and Villupuram MP D. Ravikumar has urged PMK founder S. Ramadoss to reject the BJP and the 'politics of hate' to protect peace and promote development in northern districts of Tamil Nadu, where the Vanniyars and the Scheduled Castes live in large numbers. Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Ravikumar said his appeal to Dr. Ramadoss — which came after the PMK founder spoke fondly of VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan in an interview — was born out of the concern that Dr. Ramadoss and the PMK should not 'inadvertently' aid the growth of the BJP in Tamil Nadu. 'The Vanniyars and the Scheduled Castes are two largest communities in the northern districts. If Dr. Ramadoss rejects the BJP, the national party would find it impossible to form a government in the State. It cannot win [in elections] without taking root in the northern districts,' he said. While Mr. Thirumavalavan had repeatedly rejected any alliance with the PMK or the BJP, Mr. Ravikumar said his appeal to Dr. Ramadoss should not be seen in the context of the 2026 Assembly election, but in the larger context of ensuring peace and calm in society. Mr. Ravikumar said Dr. Ramadoss's rejection of hate politics against the Scheduled Castes would pave the way for fraternity and peace among the Vanniyars and the Scheduled Castes in the villages. 'If the PMK ends the politics of hate against the Scheduled Castes, the atrocities against the Scheduled Castes will come down. Those who cause trouble to the Scheduled Castes in villages do so because of the shade of protection given by the PMK,' he said. 'Even in the Melpathi temple issue, it was the PMK's advocate, K. Balu, who spoke in support of the social exclusion of the Scheduled Castes from the temple. If the PMK lets go of this kind of politics, the atrocities will come down automatically,' he felt. The Villupuram MP added that the 'Vanniyar community has a proud history of playing a leading role in progressive politics in the State — it has been an important part of the Dravidian Movement and the Left politics. The Vanniyars do not harbour as much hate against the Scheduled Castes as other communities in the southern districts. If Dr. Ramadoss softens his stance, the Scheduled Castes in the northern districts can rest easy, and this will result in the overall development of the region.'

Mandya dist witnessed economic growth in past 2 years: MLA

Mandya: Mandya district underwent significant economic transformation over the past two years and is progressing in the fields of social development, education, and employment, said P Ravikumar, MLA of Mandya assembly constituency. Speaking at the inauguration of a talent felicitation programme held at BR Ambedkar Bhavan on Tuesday, organised to honour 700 students from the Mandya who achieved 90% or above in the SSLC and PUC examinations for the year 2024-25, Ravikumar said earlier people went to Bengaluru or Mysuru to purchase a car. But today, we can buy anything we need right here in Mandya." "Entrepreneurs are showing interest in the district, and in the last two years, around 3,000 to 4,000 unemployed youth secured jobs. Economically, the district is reaching new heights," he said. "We live in competitive times. Scoring 90% marks alone is not sufficient any more; students must gain deeper knowledge to succeed in competitive exams. Those who are being honoured today for scoring high marks in SSLC and PUC must continue to excel at every stage," he advised the students. Deputy commissioner Kumara stated that achieving success is important, but maintaining it is equally vital. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Superintendent of police Mallikarjun Baladandi raised concern about the rising number of child marriages in Mandya. Adichunchanagiri mutt seer Nirmalanandanatha Swami said, "Just like saplings, the mindset of children grows based on the kind of values, discipline, and intelligence imparted to them from a young age. Hence, parents should raise their children with good manners, values, and character." "The responsibility of upholding the trust of your parents and teachers who support you at every stage of education is now yours. You are the light of your life—strive to become prominent names in society," he told students. Muda chairman Nayeem, deputy director of pre-university education department Chaluvaiah, deputy director of school education department Shivaramegowda, and Govt Employees' Association president Nagesh were present.

Cauvery Aarti: Prep works suspended after farmer protests

Mandya: The preliminary work for Cauvery Aarti project at the KRS Dam was suspended on Tuesday following opposition from local farmers. Preparatory activities, including land levelling and mud filling for the construction of a platform for the Aarti, were under way since Saturday. However, escalating protests by farmers prompted the district administration and the authorities concerned to halt the works immediately. In strong opposition to both the proposed amusement park and the Cauvery Aarti project, farmer leaders and members of progressive organisations announced a protest near the dam on Wednesday. SP Mallikarjun Baladandi visited the site on Tuesday and held a detailed discussion with local police and officials regarding the planned demonstration. In anticipation of the protest, tight security arrangements have been made to maintain law and order. MLA defends Cauvery Aarti, park project The opposition from farmers notwithstanding, Mandya MLA Ravikumar defended the proposed Cauvery Aarti and amusement park project at KRS Dam, describing it as a vital step toward the district's development and a significant source of employment. Addressing the concerns raised by farmer groups regarding the safety of the dam, Ravikumar dismissed them as unfounded. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "Just because people visit, will they start chipping away at the dam's stones? These fears are baseless," he said. Farmer organisations have criticised the govt for allocating Rs 100 crore to the project, claiming it could be completed for just Rs 20 crore. Ravikumar refuted this allegation, asserting that a detailed project report (DPR) would justify the expenditure. "You can't just pull Rs 100 crore out of thin air. A DPR will detail how every rupee is spent."

The controversy centres around Narayanaswamy's reported comparison of RDPR Minister Priyank Kharge to a dog, and Ravikumar's alleged remark describing Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Tarannum as 'Pakistani'. The Congress delegation demanded Narayanaswamy's removal from the Council for his comment and sought immediate legal and constitutional action against Ravikumar as well. Ahmed emphasised that the delegation had submitted the formal complaints to ensure that justice is done. He stressed that Narayanaswamy's statement was particularly unbecoming of an Opposition Leader, while Ravikumar's comment about the IAS officer was both unconstitutional and offensive. 'We have urged the Chairman to take appropriate action,' he added. The Congress had earlier filed a similar complaint on this matter with Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot.

BJP MLC appears before police in Kalaburagi

BJP MLC N. Ravikumar appeared before the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Kalaburagi on Monday in connection with an FIR registered against him for his recent offensive remarks against Deputy Commissioner B. Fauzia Tarrannum. During the Kalaburagi Chalo rally in the city on May 24, Mr. Ravikumar made derogatory remarks against the IAS officer stating that 'she might have come from Pakistan' and his remarks created an outrage. Following his comments, an FIR was lodged at the Station Bazaar Police Station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with charges under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act based on a complaint filed by Kalaburagi Samudaya president Dattatraya Ikkalaki. On May 29, the High Court of Karnataka took suo motu cognisance and directed Mr. Ravikumar to tender an apology to Ms. Tarannum and also ordered him to appear before the Kalaburagi Police on Monday in connection with the case. However, Mr. Ravikumar who made himself available for investigation clarified that the remarks were unintentional and a slip of tongue. BJP leaders, including MLC Shashil G. Namoshi, the former district BJP president (rural unit) Shivaraj Patil Raddewadagi, and party workers accompanied Mr. Ravikumar to the Assistant Commissioner of Police's office. However, the police, who had set up barricades, stopped them from entering the police station.
