EPFO official arrested by CBI for taking Rs 10K bribe
Bhubaneswar: An official of the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) was arrested by the CBI for taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a chartered accountant for approving applications about two companies, an official said on Saturday. Anil Rath, Senior Social Security Assistant (SSSA), EPFO Regional Office, Berhampur, was allegedly harassing the complainant by delaying the approval, the official said. A case was registered by the CBI on June 12 against Rath on the basis of a complaint filed by Suraj Kumar Dash. He was booked for the offence of demanding undue advantage/bribe by a public servant under the Prevention of Corruption Act and criminal conspiracy under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Rath allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant to approve the Authorised Signatory Application of two employers -- Jai Jagannath Infratech and Uttam Padhi, on the EPFO Portal. Dash said the application was repeatedly rejected by Rath between March and May on the grounds of incomplete documentation. 'I visited the EPFO (Regional Office, Berhampur) again on June 11 to find out the reason why the application is under process where PRO Anil Rath demanded Rs 10,000 (for two employers at the rate of Rs 5,000 per company) to approve the Authorised Signatory Application,' said Dash in his complaint. After negotiation, the accused agreed to accept a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant, the CBI said. On receiving a complaint from Dash, CBI, ACB, Bhubaneswar verified it on June 12.

Safety most important during Digha rath: CM
Kolkata: The safety and security of people arriving in Digha for the Rath Yatra should be of paramount importance, chief minister said at a meeting on the marquee event scheduled for June 27. Additionally, the timing of the Yatra will be determined on the day of the Rath according to the situation. At the hour-and-a-half-long meeting, which began on a sombre note with prayers for those killed in the flight crash in Ahmedabad, the CM stressed the need to ensure that no accident occurs in Digha during the Rath Yatra. With an estimated two lakh people expected to attend the event, Banerjee and the district administration are wary about the crowd converging on the narrow road for the Rath Yatra. Puri-style wooden chariot to roll during Rath Yatra in city
Nagpur: The city is gearing up for a vibrant celebration of the annual Rath Yatra as over 10,000 devotees, including a large number from the Odia community, prepare to participate in the grand event this year. For the first time, the yatra will feature a fully wooden chariot modelled after the traditional Rath used in Puri. "This year's Rath Yatra is truly special. We have prepared a chariot entirely out of wood, inspired by the original in Puri," said Bhawani Prasad Mishra, president of Odia Samaj Nagpur. "To ensure authenticity, a team was sent to Rajamunda near Rourkela to scout suitable wood (ratha katha), which was then transported to Puri. After performing special rituals, the chariot is being fabricated in Puri and is scheduled to arrive in Nagpur on June 18," said Ganesh Das, secretary. In city, the festivities are being organised by Shri Jagannath Mandir, Odia Samaj, Rameshwari and ISKCON among others. Celebrations will begin on June 11 with the sacred 'Deva Snana Purnima', a ceremonial bathing of deities Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra.
