Aravalli projects to promote eco-tourism, create jobs for locals: Haryana forest minister
Haryana environment, forest and wildlife minister, Rao Narbir Singh, has said that the aim of jungle safari and Aravalli Green Wall Projects in the Aravalli region is to promote eco-tourism and conserve biodiversity, wildlife and provide employment opportunities to locals. The Aravalli range is one of the oldest mountain ranges in India and is spread across Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Delhi, covering an area of 1.15 million hectares, the minister said, adding that the central government has entrusted Haryana with the responsibility of implementing the Aravalli Green Wall Project and developing the jungle safari. The minister said that this project was earlier under the tourism department, but as per the directions of chief minister Nayab Singh Saini, it has now been handed over to the forest department. 'Through this project, afforestation of indigenous species and soil health will be improved, besides recharging groundwater and preserving biodiversity. The project will not only benefit Haryana's environment but also provide employment to locals who will be known as 'Van Mitras',' he said.

Ensure there's no flooding in Gurgaon this monsoon, minister tells agencies
Gurgaon: State minister and Badshapur MLA Rao Narbir Singh on Friday visited 15 flooding-prone spots in the city and directed agencies to ensure that the problem of waterlogging is dealt with before monsoon hits the region. The minister emphasised that negligence won't be tolerated and advised officials to work on long-term solutions. Narbir Singh started from his office in Civil Lines around 7am with a team of officials and visited Rajiv Chowk, Sector 10A market, Behrampur, Begumpur Khatola, Vipul World, Uppal Southend, Vatika Chowk, South City-2 (A Block), Sector 51, Sector 39 (Pocket D), Sector 56, micro STP in Sector 43, and micro STP at Signature Chowk. "The govt is fully committed to ensuring that citizens do not face any inconvenience during the coming monsoon. Officials have been told to identify areas prone to waterlogging and make special arrangements there," the minister said. After the city witnessed severe waterlogging on May 2, Narbir Singh inspected more than 20 flood-prone areas, including Narsingpur, Sikanderpur, sectors 27, 28, 43, 51, 54 and 56. Haryana powers up MSME sectors with Rs 170 crore cluster development plan
Gurgaon: Eleven clusters of MSME (micro, small, medium enterprise) are being developed in Haryana at an estimated cost of Rs 169.6 crore, while a subsidy of Rs 20 crore will also be provided by the state govt. The move is aimed at developing the industry, with the govt setting out to upgrade technology, common facilities and infrastructure. An official of the industry department said on Monday, "Haryana Cluster Development Scheme for MSMEs (micro, small and medium-sized enterprises) has plans to establish shared facilities like testing centers, training centers and research centers as well." Haryana's industry and commerce minister Rao Narbir Singh said, "The comprehensive approach towards MSME development reflects the govt's focus on creating a robust industrial ecosystem that can compete effectively in the national and global markets." Rao said under the scheme, 46 projects worth Rs 158 crore have been approved so far. The minister said the state govt has formed a separate MSME directorate under the startup programme started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to motivate youth towards self-employment. Under this, 90% grant assistance is provided for the mini-cluster development programme. The minister also highlighted the success of the cluster plug and play scheme, under which 33 projects valued at around Rs 359 crore have been approved. The govt has allocated Rs 75.98 crore as grant support for these projects. Rao said the MSME directorate has prepared a framework to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the industries. When there is a sudden power cut, assistance is duly provided to reduce the loss of production time and reduction in quality. Under this scheme, financial assistance is provided on the capital expenditure. He said the aim is to establish Haryana as a major investment destination of the country and abroad by preparing new enterprise development and regional schemes and policies. For this, a new enterprise promotion policy has been formulated to facilitate sustainable development through the governance system, promote entrepreneurship, create employment opportunities, adopt innovation and technology and skill development on a large scale.

MCG's road sweeping machines cost-effective? Panel to find out in Gurgaon
Gurgaon: MCG has formed a committee to assess the cost-effectiveness of its road sweeping machines. The committee has been directed to submit the report by May 25. According to the data accessed by TOI, the civic body currently spends Rs 4 crore monthly, inclusive of fuel expenses, to operate 16 sweeping machines for maintaining the city's cleanliness. On April 7, a penalty of Rs 25,000 was levied against the mechanical sweeping contractor for inadequate cleaning services. The panel — chaired by additional municipal commissioner Mahabir Prasad — will evaluate how well the mechanical sweeping systems function, their operational effectiveness, difficulties faced and cost considerations, alongside a comparative analysis with conventional manual sweeping techniques. On May 9, Badshapur MLA and Haryana industries and commerce, forest and environment minister Rao Narbir Singh said he would conduct an investigation at his level into the functioning of sweeping machines and super sucker machines run by MCG and MCM following a TOI report. The report, dated April 22, said the sweeping machines managed by a private contractor for MCG, which should operate throughout the night on city roads, were underperforming. One of the sweeping machines worked only for 28 minutes daily, sources said, citing a virtual meeting led by urban local bodies commissioner and secretary Vikas Gupta. MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya told TOI on Wednesday, "We have formed a panel on the directions of the minister. The panel will assess the cost-effectiveness and utility of these sweeping machines for the urban area." Other members of the panel include joint commissioners of all four zones, including Akhilesh Yadav, Vishal Kumar, Jaiveer Yadav and Sumit Kumar; executive engineer (Swachh Bharat Mission) Sanjiv Kumar and assistant engineer (SBM) RK Mongia. Road cleaning operations employ dual approaches — automated cleaning through machines, alongside traditional manual cleaning by sanitation staff hired through agencies and direct MCG sanitation workers. Ashish Agarwal, a resident of Nirvana Country, said, "I was returning from the airport at 1am when I noticed that a sweeping machine was moving on the Nirvana Central road, without its brushes down on both sides, so effectively no cleaning was happening. It was moving only for protocol since its movement was being tracked through GPS. It was clearly not sweeping the road." Officials said that the operations of the sweeping machines are being monitored, and it is mandatory for the machines to dispose of the dust collected after sweeping the city roads at the designated sites.

Haryana weighs new tech policies to boost electronics, gaming sectors
The Haryana government convened a high‑level stakeholder consultation in Gurugram on Friday to gather feedback on its Draft Haryana Electronic System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) Policy 2025 and Draft Haryana AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, Extended Reality) Policy 2025. Haryana's industries and commerce minister Rao Narbir Singh chaired the meeting at the PWD Rest House, declaring the state 'committed to industrial-led economic growth' under chief minister Nayab Singh Saini. Singh said Haryana is 'actively listening to stakeholders to shape policies that work on the ground' and promised that 'all practical and creative suggestions' would be considered before the drafts are finalised. Chief technology officer of industries department, Nitin Bansal, told attendees the ESDM policy aims to make Haryana 'a key node in the electronics manufacturing value chain' through innovation hubs, skilling programmes and infrastructure incentives. The AVGC-XR policy, he added, would nurture home-grown gaming and digital-content companies with subsidies, training and incubation support. Executives from Corning Technologies India, Reliance Industries, Applied Materials, Dell Technologies, Nodwin Games, WinZO and the Game Developers Association of India, meanwhile, welcomed the consultative approach. One representative said the government's willingness to engage industry 'sets a benchmark for other states looking to boost their innovation and digital ecosystems'. Friday's consultation is one of several planned before the policies are rolled out later this year. The government expects the final policies to attract investment, generate jobs, aid start-ups and strengthen Haryana's reputation as a technology and manufacturing hub, officials said.
