Central, State governments aligning with corporate interests, sidelining workers: Ramesh Chennithala
The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) will lead strong protest movements against the Central and State governments that are aligning with corporate interests and sidelining workers, said senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala. Speaking at the inauguration of the INTUC Thrissur district leadership conference held at the Regional Theatre here on Sunday Mr. Chennithala criticised both governments for trampling labour laws and neglecting the rights of the working class. He particularly condemned the Pinarayi-led State government for reducing the number of workdays and failing to ensure minimum wages for labourers. Mr. Chennithala emphasised that a strong response would be mobilised by rallying public support against such anti-worker measures. The meeting was presided over by INTUC district president Sundaran Kunnathulli. INTUC State president R. Chandrasekharan delivered the keynote address.

Ramesh Chennithala urges Kerala govt to curb rising costs
T'puram: Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has urged the state govt urgently intervene in the market to address the issue of rising costs that are making life extremely difficult for people in Kerala. He accused the govt of trying to divert attention from the exploitation of the people by large corporates and multinational corporates (MNCs) by focusing on the Nilambur byelection. "The common man's life is becoming increasingly unbearable. The govt should stop ignoring the issue and take immediate action in the market. In Kerala, the price of coconut oil increased by Rs 70 per kg. Coconut is hard to find at a reasonable price. The price of rice rose by Rs 8 to Rs 15. The cost of all essential goods is skyrocketing. Every new batch of goods from MNCs sees a price increase. The govt is not paying attention to the market. They are creating social issues to divert public attention from the real problems," Chennithala said on Sunday. While inflation significantly decreased in India, it has doubled in Kerala, he said. "According to data from April 2025, the inflation rate in India is only 3.16%. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like They Were So Beautiful Before; Now Look At Them; Number 10 Will Shock You Reportingly Undo However, during the same period, Kerala recorded the highest inflation rate among Indian states at 5.9%. This indicates the uncontrolled price hikes of essential goods in Kerala. The state's finance department has completely failed. Not only did the debt increase, but the finance department also failed to control the price rise," he said. The govt has always effectively intervened in the market to control price hikes in Kerala. This was achieved by supplying essential goods through Maveli stores and Supplyco outlets. However, the govt is now in a state of complete failure, unable to manage even that. The govt should focus on the fundamental issues, demanded Chennithala. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Under-construction NH-66 collapses: Congress alleges corruption
Thiruvananthapurm, May 21 (UNI) Responding to the collapse of under-construction six-lane NH-66 at 3 places in Kerala, AICC Working Committee Member and senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala alleged that the hallmark of the current dispensation has been corruption, nepotism and incompetence. The under construction NH-66 has collapsed at 3 places including Kooriyad, Thalapara and Kanhangad in Malappuram and Kasargod districts. The cave-ins are reported at a time when the Pinarayi Vijayan-led CPI(M) government is celebrating its 4th anniversary, he said. "The CPM-led LDF government is celebrating NH Development as its flagship programme as part of their ongoing 4th anniversary celebrations of the 2nd Pinarayi Vijayan Government," he added. "This becomes even more comical when one considers the flex wars and adverts that both the state and central government did to claim the NH to be their own. Now no one seems to be owning up responsibility," he alleged. "This shows the fallacy and hypocrisy of the Pinarayi Vijayan Government in Kerala. The common man is fed up of the 9-year rule of CPM-led LDF in the State where they have literally no development to show other than usurping old schemes and big talk," he charged. Opposition leader in Kerala Assembly VD Satheesan alleged that both the CPM and BJP were fighting for the credit over NH-66. But, when the under-construction six-lane highway collapsed, both the parties shirked their responsibility. "Someone must ensure accountability, and fix such issues swiftly. Public safety must come first," Satheesan added. UNI DS PRS

LDF govt.'s four-year celebrations riddled with corruption, alleges Chennithala
Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday (April 29, 2025) alleged corruption in the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government's four-year celebrations. 'The 100-crore splurge on the celebrations is being divided among those close to the government. The government has no money to alleviate the burden of the common man, but is spending crores on its fourth-year celebrations,' he said here. Mr. Chennithala criticised the government for not inviting Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan to the commissioning of the Vizhinjam port. 'If the government claimed that he was not invited as the programme was part of its four-year celebrations, how did they invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party for the event. It showed the collusion between the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the BJP,' he alleged. He said that the Vizhinjam project was initiated by the United Democratic Front government led by then Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. 'Pinarayi Vijayan had opposed the project then,' he said.
