SAI Orders Tennis Players To Turn Up For National Duty On Priority, Funds To Be Recovered In Absence
Last Updated: SAI instructed players receiving support from schemes such as TOPS, NSF and TAGG to confirm their intent and availability to represent the tricolour at international events. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) issued an order to Indian tennis stars who have received financial assistance through various schemes to prioritise representing the nation and added that failure to turn up for national duty without valid justification would result in the recovery of funds from the players. SAI instructed players receiving support from schemes such as TOPS, NSF and TAGG to confirm their intent and availability to represent the tricolour at events such as the Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup, Asian Games and Olympics. SAI asked players who receive assistance from the Target Asian Games Group to pen an acknowledgement that the financial support carries with it the responsibility to contribute to the nation's sporting goals. 'The above tennis competitions hold significant national pride. Therefore, it is important that all players benefiting from the support, provided under these schemes prioritize representing India if selected by the All India Tennis Association," the order read. 'We would also like to inform you that, in the event of selection by the NSF, should you decide not to participate without valid justification, the financial assistance provided to date will be subject to recovery in accordance with the applicable guidelines," it continued. 'The government wanted the players to be accountable and there is nothing wrong in it. The government has added players names for support but it also wants them to be available for national duty when required," Rajpal said. 'An excellent move. Representing India, our great nation is the biggest honour and should be non negotiable specially if you receive government support," Uppal added. (With Inputs From PTI)

Haryana recommends service extension for Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi
Haryana's BJP government has recommended a service extension for Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, who was scheduled to retire on June 30. Sources within the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said on Wednesday that the government has forwarded a formal request to the Centre, seeking a six-month extension for its incumbent chief secretary. As per Rule 16 of the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefit) Rules 1958, the service of the chief secretary may be given an extension of service 'for a period not exceeding six months on the recommendations made by the State Government concerned with full justification and in the public interest, with the prior approval of the Central Government'. The state government appointed Rastogi, a 1990-batch IAS officer, as the chief secretary in February to replace Vivek Joshi, after he was appointed the Election Commissioner of India. Rastogi is also holding the charge of additional chief secretary (finance and planning) in the Haryana government. Before his elevation as chief secretary, the power circles in Haryana had already predicted that Rastogi would be picked to succeed Joshi even though four other 1990-batch IAS officers -– Sudhir Rajpal, Sumita Misra, Anand Mohan Sharan, and Raja Sekhar Vundru — were in the race for the post. All four officers are posted as additional chief secretaries, with Rajpal in charge of health, Misra of home, Sharan of environment, and Vundru of agriculture. Rajpal is the senior-most officer in the group, followed by Misra.

Haryana to shoots off notices on 393 anganwadi workers over illegal abortions
Haryana health department on Tuesday decided to issue show-cause notices to 393 anganwadi workers whose areas reported cases of illegal abortions, involving pregnant women who already had one or more daughters. The decision was taken during a review meeting chaired by additional chief secretary (health) Sudhir Rajpal, who assessed the progress of the ongoing campaign against illegal abortions, illegal sex determination tests and misuse of Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) kits. A government spokesperson said that these anganwadi workers were assigned as SAHELIs (companions) to provide counselling and support to expectant mothers with daughters, under a targeted monitoring programme. The show-cause notices were recommended due to their failure to prevent or report illegal abortions in their designated areas. The SAHELI initiative, part of the state's strategy to combat female foeticide, assigns an ASHA or anganwadi worker to monitor and support each pregnant woman who already has one or more daughters. Over 50,000 such women are currently being tracked across the state by civil surgeons and health officials. Rajpal directed the women and child development department to take immediate action against the negligent workers and to intensify efforts to prevent sex-selective practices. He also ordered strict surveillance of all MTP and ultrasound centres to curb illegal sex determination and abortion procedures. The ACS also called for 100% registration of births, especially in districts like Mewat, Gurugram, Palwal and Faridabad, where underreporting of child birth is common. He also instructed deputy chief medical officers to organise birth registration camps in slum areas and mobilise inter-district inspection teams to investigate any complaints of illegal abortions or sex selection. Officials were also asked to actively involve NGOs, ASHA workers, panchayati raj representatives and community leaders in promoting the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign, aimed at improving the status of girl children in the state.
