Dibrugarh: Union minister of state for external affairs Pabitra Margherita participated in the 11th International Day of Yoga celebrations at the Rang Ghar in Sivasagar on Saturday, joining hundreds of yoga enthusiasts in a grand display of wellness and cultural pride, reports Rajib Dutta. The Rang Ghar, once the royal sports-pavilion of the Ahom kings, provided a majestic backdrop for the event, which also featured a live broadcast of PM Modi leading the Yoga Day celebrations from Visakhapatnam's scenic coastline. Addressing the gathering, Margherita emphasised the significance of this year's theme, "Yoga for One Earth, One Health," aligning it with India's ancient philosophy of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' — the world as one family.

Varsity students block deteriorating state highway, demand immediate repairs
1 2 Dibrugarh: Students of Madhabdev University in Lakhimpur blocked the state highway on Saturday, expressing their frustration over the severely deteriorating condition of the road, which connects Narayanpur to the university, reports Rajib Dutta. The protest, organized under the banner of the Madhabdev University Students' Union (MUSU), involved hundreds of students carrying placards and banners, and raising slogans against the state govt for its alleged neglect of the highway. Lakhimpur disinfects water sources after floodwaters recede
1 2 3 4 5 6 Dibrugarh: As floodwaters recede in Lakhimpur district, health authorities on Friday launched a massive disinfection drive to sanitise contaminated water sources and prevent the outbreak of waterborne diseases. The initiative targeted tube wells, hand pumps, and wells submerged under muddy floodwaters, which now pose a serious health risk to villagers, reports Rajib Dutta. With threat of infections like cholera, diarrhoea, and dysentery looming large, district health department teams carried out chlorination and chemical treatment of water sources in rural pockets. Additionally, mosquito nets were treated with repellents and Malathion fogging operations were conducted to curb mosquito breeding and prevent vector-borne diseases.
