Ex-AIADMK MP lodges complaint against DMK IT wing secretary over post against Palaniswami

Former AIADMK Tiruchi MP P. Kumar on Friday lodged a complaint with Tiruchi Superintendent of Police S. Selvanagarathinam seeking legal action against DMK's IT wing secretary and Industries Minister T.R.B. Rajaa for alleged slanderous remarks and false information posted on the DMK IT wing's social media platform against former Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami. Mr. Kumar handed over a copy of the complaint to the SP at the District Police Office here seeking action against Mr. Rajaa under various provisions of the Information Technology Act and under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act. In the complaint, Mr. Kumar, who is the AIADMK's Tiruchi Rural South district secretary, said he was shocked to find the slanderous post in the DMK's IT Wing social media platform against Mr. Palaniswami with indecent and obscene caricature of the latter on June 17. It lowered the dignity of Mr. Palaniswami and the post he held. The act was a planned conspiracy to insult and damage the reputation of Mr. Palaniswami besides hurting the feelings of the AIADMK cadre, Mr. Kumar said in the complaint. The AIADMK party flag was insulted in the social media post. Such acts could create hatred and instigate conflict between the cadre of two political parties which could lead to law and order problems, Mr. Kumar said and sought legal action against Mr. Rajaa and those who had posted it.

Tamil Nadu eyes global electronics lead with unique scheme for niche components

CHENNAI: In a bold push to become a dominant player in the global electronics supply chain, Tamil Nadu on Wednesday launched the 'Tamil Nadu Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme', a focused initiative to build an integrated electronics manufacturing ecosystem anchored on high-growth, niche components. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the scheme, which aims to attract Rs 30,000 crore in investment and generate 60,000 jobs across the state. The initiative zeroes in on eleven specific components, including flexible printed circuit boards (FPCBs) for wearable technology, lithium-ion cells, display modules, and passive components, sectors identified for their potential to yield rapid growth and differentiation. The scheme reflects the state's evolving strategy to deepen its electronics base by focusing on underdeveloped but high-demand segments. 'Building on existing strengths, we are focusing on niche markets where Tamil Nadu can establish a unique ecosystem,' said Industries Minister Dr. TRB Rajaa. Rather than merely drawing in investment, the initiative aims to develop a self-sustaining industrial environment where both major manufacturers and their suppliers can co-exist. As part of this strategy, the government will secure land near upcoming investment hubs to support ancillary growth and reduce logistical dependencies. In a significant move, the state has pledged to match subsidies under the central government's Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme, offering investors a dual-incentive structure to set up operations in Tamil Nadu. The timing of the announcement aligns with heightened national interest in electronics manufacturing, especially as Apple scales up domestic production. Apple already manufactures 70 per cent of India's iPhones in Tamil Nadu, and Rajaa confirmed the state aims to further increase its share, solidifying its position in the global technology supply chain. Looking beyond smartphones, the Industries Minister also emphasised the need for a more balanced national strategy in semiconductor manufacturing. "India cannot rely on just one state for chip production," Rajaa said, urging the Centre to decentralise investments and leverage southern states' existing supply chains. Earlier this year, Tamil Nadu unveiled the 'Semiconductor and Advanced Electronics Policy 2024', another strategic initiative aimed at attracting high-tech investment. The state is already seeing results, in the 2024-25 financial year, Tamil Nadu became the first Indian state to record USD 14.65 billion in electronics exports, a figure expected to grow with the rollout of the new scheme.

TIDEL Neo Park to come up in Nagapattinam

Nagapattinam district will soon have a TIDEL Neo–Mini TIDEL Park, expected to create 600 direct jobs and generate indirect employment for about 2,000 people. Industries Minister T.R.B. Rajaa formally announced the project in the State Assembly on April 25. The park will be established on a six-acre site at Sellur in the town, aimed at expanding IT opportunities beyond metropolitan centres. With cost advantages and relatively low salary expectations compared to urban hubs, small cities like Nagapattinam are becoming attractive destinations for IT and ITES firms. Officials said Nagapattinam's micro economy was anchored in agriculture, fishing, tourism, salt production, and small-scale industries like dry fish processing and candle making. The integration of IT into these sectors is expected to enhance productivity, competitiveness, and modernisation. Fishing, in particular, is evolving into a growth sector, offering opportunities for technological transformation and greater youth engagement. Talent pool The district's labour force participation rate is slightly above the State average, with strong representation in food processing, banking and financial services (BFSI), healthcare, construction, and tourism. The presence of a diverse workforce is seen as a major advantage for industries looking to integrate digital solutions into traditional business models. Each year, Nagapattinam produces over 6,000 graduates across disciplines, including 3,185 from Arts and Science colleges, 1,650 from engineering colleges, 1,000 from programmes, and 240 from MBA courses. A significant proportion of these students specialise in computer science, commerce, management, and core engineering fields. Additionally, neighbouring districts such as Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, and Karaikal contribute more than 12,000 graduates annually, further strengthening the region's talent pool. Officials said the TIDEL Neo Park is aimed at not only generating employment but also to retain skilled youth within the district, reduce migration to urban centres, and stimulate inclusive regional development. The project is expected to drive digital transformation in traditional industries while lower operating costs add to the district's appeal for new business ventures.
