Boman Irani Reflects On Growing Up Without A Father: ‘I Lacked Toughness'
Last Updated: Boman Irani mentioned that he was a nervous child and when there is no father at home, individuals become overprotective. Boman Irani, known for portraying some of Bollywood's most memorable characters, has consistently delivered impactful performances across film and television. In a recent interview, the veteran actor opened up about his challenging childhood and how he carved out a successful career in showbiz despite early emotional struggles. He revealed that he never had the chance to experience a father's love, as his father passed away before he was born, leaving a lasting emotional void in his life. In a conversation with Raj Shamani on his podcast, the actor spoke about his father's demise and how his void affected him. The actor said, 'Jo maine aaj tak mehsoos hi nahi kiya, toh uska loss kese mehsoos karenge. Mujhe pata hi nahi hai ki father kya hota hai. I had other complications. I was a nervous child. Father nahi hone pe ghar pe log zayada protective hojate hai and vo ek comfort zone hai. Toughness nahi thi mereme. Jab mai chota tha toh maine dekha hi nahi tha mard. (How can I sense the loss of something I've never experienced? I'm not even sure what a father is. I had other issues. I was a nervous child. When there is no father at home, individuals become overprotective, resulting in a comfort zone. I lacked toughness. When I was a child, I had no idea what a man was.)" Boman Irani will star in the ZEE5 original thriller Detective Sherdil. He portrays a father and when asked about the character of his father, he said, 'There is a void, I don't know if it really means anything, I am not trying to fill in. And if I am, I am not aware of it." Detective Sherdil, which had finished filming several years ago, had been shelved for unknown reasons. However, it premiered on ZEE5 on June 20. Set against the gorgeous background of Budapest, Detective Sherdil combines intrigue, comedy and a cast of suspect people in what promises to be an entertaining, family-friendly adventure. It also stars Sumeet Vyas, Diana Penty, Banita Sandhu, Chunky Panday and Ratna Pathak Shah. First Published:

Sunlight making you look older? Dermatologist warns not applying sunscreen daily is doing you more damage than you think
On the June 17 episode of Figuring Out With Raj Shamani, Mumbai-based dermatologist and trichologist Dr Geetanjali Shetty emphasised the importance of sunscreen for all ages. According to her, sunscreen helps prevent wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots caused by UV exposure and by incorporating sunscreen into your daily routine, you can enjoy healthier, protected skin for years to come. Also read | Beauty experts list what to look for and avoid in a sunscreen Dr Shetty explained how sunscreen can protect from UVA (Ultraviolet A) rays, which penetrate deep into the skin, causing premature ageing and wrinkles. Sunscreen also helps protect against UVB (Ultraviolet B) rays that primarily cause sunburn and Dr Shetty added that even blue light (HEV or high energy visible light) from digital devices and screens can contribute to skin damage and premature ageing. Dr Shetty further shared that of the 10 patients she sees a day, 5-6 patients have little to no knowledge about sunscreen. Dr Shetty explained how many Indians don't apply sunscreen because they think they are immune if they 'spend most of their time in AC', and said, 'Sadly, no one understands sunlight in India. Earlier, there was less pollution, and no ozone layer disruption. The sunrays are very harsh now.' She added: 'Without sunscreen, you have cumulative damage happening to your skin. The SPF in sunscreen protects you against UVB and UVA. Now, with the lifestyle we have, we should start putting sunscreen indoors to protect ourselves from the blue light of screens. The earlier you realise this, the younger your are going to stay.' Wondering how to choose the ideal sunscreen for your skin type? In a March 2023 interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Akber Aimer, director of aesthetic medicine and surgery at Maya Medi Spa shared some tips to help you find the perfect sun protection for your unique skin type. For oily or acne-prone skin, he said, look for a lightweight, oil-free, and non-comedogenic sunscreen, while for dry or sensitive skin, choose a moisturising sunscreen. For combination skin, use a sunscreen that is lightweight and non-greasy. He added that you should avoid sunscreens that contain zinc oxide or titanium dioxide as they can leave a white cast on the skin. Are traditional Indian skincare products like kumkumadi tailam actually good for you? Dermatologist reveals
Kumkumadi skincare is an Ayurvedic approach that utilises a traditional formulation to promote radiant and glowing skin. This ancient Indian remedy combines saffron with nourishing herbal oils and extracts to support skin health. On the June 17 episode of Figuring Out With Raj Shamani, Mumbai-based dermatologist and trichologist Geetanjali Shetty shared if 'natural skincare products' like kumkumadi thailam actually work. Also read | What Sharmila Tagore does for 'radiant, naturally glowing skin' at 79: Her top 3 traditional Indian skincare ingredients When asked if 'natural products' were a sham, she said, 'We were taught that natural is something that will rot. So these skincare products are not talking about a natural product but a natural ingredient. If it is natural, you have to keep it in the fridge. There are natural products that you really have to refrigerate, but all products are not 'natural' just because they say so or have kumkumadi thailam or some kesar or saffron in them.' Dr Shetty added that before using natural products, especially for skincare concerns, it is essential to consult a healthcare professional – as by being cautious and informed, you can enjoy the benefits of natural products while minimising potential risks. She said, 'Natural products are a beautiful thing that can be used. I am not talking about natural formulations, I am talking about homecare. But you know what is the sad bit? It is when you don't know whether lemon will suit you or raw milk. Tumeric will treat your issue or multani mitti? Now, all this comes from Ayurveda and therefore, an Ayurvedic doctor can tell you what to use. So, if you love natural products, your doctor has to be an Ayurvedic certified doctor who can tell you, 'Okay, you have oily skin, use Fuller's Earth'. But by yourself, if you are applying lemon on your skin just because an influencer is doing it, then it is the wrong skincare. So, I am a big advocate for natural products, but I always say it is a challenge to get to what is going to suit you. You cannot keep trying everything. A lot of patients come to me because of the side-effects of these natural products.' Raj Shamani ‘Whitewash' Memes Go Viral After Vijay Mallya Podcast: Why YouTuber Is Facing Heat
Last Updated: Raj Shamani's sensational podcast episode with Vijay Mallya is still being discussed nearly a week after it was dropped on YouTube. Fugitive Vijay Mallya, who made brief appearances on the Internet during bank holidays, spent over four hours on popular YouTuber and entrepreneur Raj Shamani's podcast to share his 'side" of the story. The former owner of RCB, Kingfisher Airlines, and Force India F1 team, left India in March 2016 amidst allegations of financial irregularities and loan defaults. So, it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that people wanted to hear from the horse's mouth. He has been accused in a bank loan default case involving over Rs 9,000 crore. The 69-year-old liquor baron's lengthy chat with Shamani garnered plenty of attention and has since been viewed over 22 million times in under a week. The runtime of the episode was a staggering 4 hours and 18 minutes. From selecting a young Virat Kohli for Royal Challengers Bangalore to giving 'Oo La La La Le O" jingle for his beer brand Kingfisher to apologising to his defunct airline employees, there was a lot discussed on the viral episode. Naturally, the episode with Mallya went through the routine Internet cycle. Videos of the most interesting bits from the podcast were clipped and uploaded as YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels. There were sad edits, memes, the usual. However, the outcome of interviewing Mallya has put Shamani in the direct line of criticism. Whitewashed His Image? The public drew parallels with Rajkumar Hirani's Sanju (2018) which starred Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, and portrayed the troubled life of Sanjay Dutt. While Hirani has gone on record and asserted that he made the movie to tell a compelling story, and not because of personal connections or to whitewash Dutt's image, critics have disagreed with him for they believe the movie was an oversimplification of the Bollywood actor's life and in doing so, the cinema made him appear like a victim. It could've been darker, more nuanced, and balanced, the critics and moviegoers remarked. What did not sit well with the viewers of Mallya's podcast was that the outcome made the fugitive appear as a victim living in the bad times. Shamani has, since then, faced criticism for giving Mallya the platform. A calm, respectful chat with a guest without shouting at the highest decibel was a rare sight and a pleasant one for them. But there were those too who sympathised with Mallya. 'Top 5 Lessons Learned from this Podcast 1. Don't Judge a Story Without Hearing Both Sides 2. Media Trials Can Destroy Reputations 3. Silence Is Not a Sign of Guilt 4. Business Losses Aren't Always Crimes 5. Truth Takes Time, But It Always Comes Out," a comment under the podcast read. 'Bring him back. India needs such entrepreneurs. He has repaid double. Deserves Respect," another read. 'As a banker with 38 years of experience I can say what he says is true," a third added. Presenting the purported 'recovery certificate" to Shamani, Mallya, on the viral episode, said: 'It says the recovery certificate Rs 6203 crores 35 lakhs 3879 and paisa 42 only. That is the evidence of the debt. Where did this Rs 9000 crore figure come from?"
