Meet man who started acting right after graduation, has done over 200 films, also made a big name in politics, he is... In the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood, many actors come and go every day. However, some rare gems carve a niche for themselves and remain etched in the memories of the audience. One such tale is of a legendary actor who not only lit up the silver screen with his strong presence and impeccable performance, but his actions also conspired in Indian politics, creating a legacy both on the silver screen and on the public stage. The actor that we are talking about is none other than Raj Babbar. Raj was born on 23rd June 1952 in Tundla, Uttar Pradesh. He was the eldest among his six siblings. Having a knack for acting right from childhood, Raj ventured into his passion for acting at a young age. He went to the prestigious National School of Drama (NSD) in 1975, and soon after he graduated, he entered the world of entertainment. In 1980, Babbar made his debut in the industry with the film Sau Din Saas Ke opposite Reena Roy. Although Raj did many films in his career, he rose to fame through Insaaf Ka Tarazu, which established him as a great performer, especially in a negative role. One of his most memorable performances was in the film Nikaah, where he portrayed the complex character of Afaaq Haider. In his long career trajectory, Raj did over 200 films that not only won the hearts of the audience, but also made him a legend in the negative role. However, Raj's skills weren't limited to acting; he also ventured into politics in the year 2004. He was elected as a Member of Parliament from Firozabad on a Samajwadi Party ticket. However, after being suspended from the party in 2006, he joined the Indian National Congress. As a party spokesperson, he remained a prominent political figure. In 2014, he contested the Lok Sabha elections from Ghaziabad, hoping to make a significant impact once again. Unfortunately, this time he didn't receive the public support he expected. Raj celebrates his 73rd birthday today, and his contribution to Indian politics and cinema cannot go unnoticed For breaking news and live news updates, like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter and Instagram. This man in photo played hero and villain at the same time, was not invited to his son's wedding, can you recognise him?

Some rare actors have truly blurred the boundaries between hero and villain in the film industry. They understand acting so well as a craft that they can convincingly portray both sides, sometimes even in the same film. One such actor excelled at this. Whether it was playing a cruel rapist in Insaaf Ka Tarazu , a soft-hearted poet in Nikaah and Prem Geet , a vigilante in Aaj Ki Awaaz, or an evil mastermind in Aitbaar, he portrayed each role with remarkable depth. He consistently broke stereotypes with his characters. Born in Uttar Pradesh into a Punjabi family, he completed his early education at Agra College. His love for the performing arts led him to the National School of Drama (NSD) in Delhi, from where he graduated in 1975. The actor began his career with a supporting role in the controversial film Kissa Kursi Ka in 1977, but he did not land a substantial role until 1980. It was B.R. Chopra's Insaaf Ka Tarazu that brought him into the spotlight, where he played the role of a rapist. The actor we are talking about is Raj Babbar. In the film, Babbar's character committed heinous crimes against Bharti Saxena, portrayed by Zeenat Aman, and later her sister, played by Padmini Kolhapure. This negative role made him famous overnight. From that point on, there was no looking back. In the 1980s, films like Prem Geet, Nikaah, Umrao Jaan, Aaj Ki Awaaz , and Agar Tum Na Hote established Babbar as a romantic and serious actor. His roles in films like Bodyguard, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 2, and Bullet Raja proved that he can fit into every kind of role. Raj Babbar's personal life was in the news because… Raj Babbar's personal life was often in the spotlight, much like his films. In 1975, he married theatre artist Nadira Zaheer, with whom he has a daughter, Juhi Babbar, and a son, Arya Babbar. However, in 1982, he met actress Smita Patil on the sets of the film Bheegi Palkein, and the two began dating. Their relationship made headlines at the time, as Raj was already married. Raj and Smita got married in 1983, and their son, Prateik Babbar (Prateik Smita Patil), was born in 1986. Unfortunately, fate had other plans—Smita Patil passed away just a few days after Prateik's birth. Her sudden demise was a huge shock for Raj. Later, he returned to Nadira and reunited with his family. Raj Babbar was not invited to his son Prateik's marriage His son Prateik recently got married, but he chose not to invite his father, Raj Babbar. He explained that the decision was made because the wedding took place at his mother, Smita Patil's residence, and out of respect for the past complications between Nadira and Smita. However, Prateik also clarified that there is no personal animosity between him and his father. Raj Babbar with his son Prateik Prateik said, 'My father's wife and my mother had some complications in the past, lots of things have been said in the press and stuff like that if you dig out 38-40 years ago. I was open to doing something with my father and his family for another function. I just thought it was unethical to have him and his family at that house when after everything had went on between them. Absolutely, it wasn't right. The right thing to do was to what we did and then if, obviously now circumstances are different, everything is gone South and it's extremely complicated. But it's not for me. I'm still the same.' He added, 'It wasn't about rejecting anyone. It was about respecting my mother and her wishes… I'm sorry my father and his wife could not be there, could not be in the house my mother bought for me to grow up and live a life as a single mother. She wanted to live in that house with me as a single mother. Bring me up. I'm sorry. That was the best decision my wife and I made. And it could have been very, very subtle scenario and everything could have been subtle. But people are impulsive, people make impulsive choices and say things out of impulse and it was just distasteful and I think that bitter taste has remained.'

There are several films in Bollywood that have landed in legal controversy prior its release. Today, we will talk about one such movie that really underwent through trouble seas, and dealt with 34 legal cases. Despite being in bad publicity, the film did exceedingly well and turned out to be a box office hit. Released in 1982, the film we are referring to is BR Chopra's Nikaah . Starring Raj Babbar, Deepak Parashar, and Salma Agha, the film was based on the concept of triple Talaq. According to IMDB, the film was initially titled, Talaq Talaq Talaq. However, the makers later changed it to Nikaah. During that time, the film as well as the storyline didn't settle well with the certain section of Muslims, and as a result the makers of Nikaah faced shocking 34 court cases. Many people intervened during the screening, and asked to stop the film. While, some just threw the posters out on the road in anger. Not just this, lead actress Salma Agha was threatened and harassed. There were several outrageous letters sent to her, warning to leave India and move back to London. Despite all the controversy, the film did surprisingly well and became a box office success. Made on a budget of Rs 4 crore, Nikaah earned Rs 9 crore, making a 225% of profit. The success of the film catapulted Salma to overnight stardom, leading to several offers for many other films. Other than Salma, Raj Babbar, and Deepak Parashar, the cast also consisted of Tanuja, Hina Kausar, Iftekhar and Asrani. Those who wish to watch the film, you can catch it on YouTube, Hotstar or Amazon Prime. Nikaah is surely way ahead of its time, showcasing a quite bold theme out and out.

Virat-Anushka Spotted Before Test Retirement News; Prateik On Why Raj Babbar Wasn't Invited To Wedding

Last Updated: Anushka & Virat made a stylish airport appearance just before his Test retirement news. Meanwhile, Prateik Babbar reveals why he didn't invite Raj Babbar to his wedding. Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli made a stylish appearance together at the Mumbai Airport on Monday morning, minutes before the cricketer announced his retirement from Test cricket. The couple was spotted by paparazzi at the airport as they flied out of Mumbai. Although they seemed to be in a hurry, they still took a moment to smile and graciously pose for a few quick photos before continuing on their way inside. Prateik Babbar and Priya Banerjee got married in an intimate wedding ceremony on February 14, 2025, at Prateik's late mother Smita Patil's house in Mumbai. They were surrounded by their closest family and friends during the celebration. However, Raj Babbar, Arya Babbar and Juhi Babbar were not invited to the wedding, and this created a stir on social media. The actor has now revealed the real reason why he didn't invite Raj Babbar and his family. Fresh off her appearance as a special guest on Bigg Boss 18, Shalini Passi is all set to add another feather to her already fabulous cap, this time, as an author. The Delhi-based art patron and cultural curator, known for her fearless style and artistic flair, will make her writing debut in 2026 with a book that promises to be as unapologetic as she is. For More: Fabulous Lives Vs. Bollywood Wives' Shalini Passi To Debut As Author In 2026 Ibrahim Ali Khan, son of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, opened up about the frequent comparisons people draw between him and his father, especially during Saif's younger years. In a candid conversation with GQ India, Ibrahim revealed that not only do the audiences make the comparison, but his own mother, actress Amrita Singh, often remarks on how much he reminds her of a young Saif— particularly when the two are arguing. Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attacks and India's strong retaliation through Operation Sindoor, a silent purge appears to be underway—not just on social media, but across music streaming platforms as well. Pakistani actors are vanishing from the promotional assets of Indian films, including iconic music albums. First Published:

Prateik Patil didn't invite father Raj Babbar to his wedding 'to respect mother'

Actor Prateik Smita Patil recently revealed why he chose not to invite his father, Raj Babbar, to his wedding with Priya Banerjee. Prateik, who got married in February this year, explained that it would have been 'unethical' to include his father and his family in the celebration, given the complicated history between his mother, Smita Patil, and Raj Babbar's wife, an interview with Times Now, the actor shared that because his wedding took place at his late mother's house, he felt it was 'unethical' to have his father in attendance.
