Rural market, library impress Buxar DM
Buxar: Buxar DM Vidyanand Singh inspected public infrastructure at Aathhar village in Navanagar block on Thursday. "The rural market will boost local economic activity and empower women," he said. Developed under MGNREGA at a cost of Rs 34 lakh, the haat includes 84 shops, composting facilities, electricity and a landscaped garden. CCTV cameras and rural-themed artwork add to the appeal. Jeevika Didis run grocery, tailoring and beauty businesses here. He asked officials to complete pending work and hand over the facility to the gram Ppanchayat. The DM praised the library's upkeep and urged continued maintenance. He also directed the child development project officer to develop the anganwadi centre into a model facility and asked the PHED to ensure adequate water supply. At the RTPS counter, he stressed timely service delivery and staff punctuality.

DM withholds salaries of absentee officials
Gaya: Gaya district magistrate (DM) Shashank Shubhankar ordered the withholding of salaries of nine staff members and seven officials and issued showcause notices to all of them after a surprise inspection of the town block office around 10.30am on Tuesday. Among those found absent were the child development project officer, agriculture officer, panchayati raj officer, statistics officer, MGNREGA programme officer, two junior engineers, clerical staff, an amin, an Urdu translator and office attendants. During the inspection, the DM also reviewed the functioning of the Right to Public Service (RTPS) counter and inquired about the number of applications received over the past week, as well as how many had been processed. He asked the RTPS staff to display relevant information outside the office for the convenience of applicants. Later, during his daily Janata Durbar, the DM directed the district mining officer to conduct an inquiry following a complaint that a vehicle seized for illegal sand transportation had not been released, despite payment of the imposed penalty.

Karnataka's Raichur thermal plant conducts mock drill to check readiness
RAICHUR: As part of the civil defence mock drill amid the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Raichur District Disaster Management Authority and the district administration, along with various departments, organised 'Operation Abhyaas' on the helipad premises of Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) in Shaktinagar on Friday. People were sensitised on the measures and precautions to be taken in case of an air attack on India. Volunteers were taught how to handle the seriously injured and casualties in case of air strikes. Bombs were also simulated using fireworks. In the mock drill that lasted for 30 minutes, fire and emergency services personnel also demonstrated to the public how to respond to any kind of emergency. People were also shown how to extinguish fire and how to rescue people and move them to safer places. Later, Raichur Deputy Commissioner Nitish K explained that the main purpose of the mock drill was to show citizens how to protect themselves in the event of an attack on India by enemy countries. 'Everyone, including students and youths, together with the district administration, should be prepared for any kind of situation,' MLA Basanagouda Daddal said.
