Prosenjit Chatterjee on Sitaare Zameen Par's cinema-only move: Aamir can take risk

Aamir Khan's much-anticipated 'Sitaare Zameen Par' released in theatres on June 20. In a historic move, the superstar has decided to go cinema-only, ditching the OTT release altogether. His move has received mixed reviews from the industry, and actor Prosenjit Chatterjee admitted that such kind of changes are an exclusive chat with Chatterjee weighed in on Aamir Khan's decision. While he admitted that the need is required, he also mentioned how Khan's experience enables him to take such about Aamir Khan's 'only cinema' approach, Chatterjee said, "He can take the risk. He has been serving the industry for many years, and he understands the pulse and sensibilities of the audiences." The Jubilee actor added that while this won't halt the process, someone needed to take a step to initiate a change. Although he added that there's no good or bad to this method."I remember long back when content would be sold to CD companies, and it paid producers handsomely. However, after a year or two, I realised that the CDs were already in the market in a few days, and the theatre business was getting affected. So I called up all the producers for a meeting and we jointly decided that while the rights would be sold off, we need to have a gap of a good 9-12 weeks. All producers came together, and things changed to a certain level," the Bengali actor added that he saw the same trend when it came to films' television premieres. "In three or four weeks, they would start playing Bengali and even Hindi films on television. So, we stopped that and said let's give it after eight weeks. To save the theatrical business and cinema, he (Aamir Khan) is a person who can think this way or take this kind of risk. Nothing will change, a film will come on OTT and then on satellite television. That's how it works, that's how we reach our Indian audiences. But let's see how this goes (Sitaare Zameen Par's only-cinema model), and I hope it works."Marking Aamir Khan's return to the big screen after a three-year hiatus, 'Sitaare Zameen Par' has opened to a positive response from critics and fans alike. Also starring Genelia Deshmukh, the RS Prasanna is touted as the spiritual sequel of 'Taare Zameen Par'.Meanwhile, on June 19, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan also joined Aamir at the premiere and were seen warmly interacting with the film's young supporting cast, or 'sitaare', as they are lovingly referred to Watch

Box Office: Sitaare Zameen Par collects Rs 10.50 crore on opening day; Aamir Khan starrer picks up from evening shows

Sitaare Zameen Par directed by RS Prasanna and starring Aamir Khan, Genelia Deshmukh and many more has taken an estimated opening in the vicinity of Rs 10.50 crore on its first Friday. The opening of the movie in India compares well with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which opened in the similar range and played well with the same set of audience in the post pandemic world. Now it is to be seen how the Aamir Khan starrer does in the days to follow. Sitaare Zameen Par, After A Rs 10.50 Crore Day 1, Looks To Grow Well On Saturday The advance bookings of Sitaare Zameen Par for day 2 suggest a jump of 60-80 percent, meaning that a number of Rs 17-19 crore can be expected. That can further be consolidated with a Rs 21 crore Sunday, giving the film a weekend of Rs 45-50 crore net. The word of mouth of the movie seems on the positive side for audiences preferring class appealing content. It will eventually be this set of audience that will determine the movie's eventual theatrical fate. A Rs 10.50 crore start for an Aamir Khan film in 2025 is not good by any means. However, the blow of an underwhelming start is softened by generally favourable reception by the target audience. With a mixed or poor reception, this opening would have been a bummer. But now, the film has a chance to do some reasonable business. What really needs to be seen is how the movie holds on Monday and then how much it grows on Tuesday when ticket prices are subsidised. If the weekday hold is strong, the second weekend should be solid despite a new Bollywood film Maa, headlined by Kajol, releasing. An initiative by Aamir Khan that's worth highlighting is that he has held back the digital rights of the movie, meaning it won't release on any OTT platform even after 2 months. Will this help the movie with a leggier run is now to be seen. There are reports that it is likely to release on a Pay Per View basis, on YouTube, after 2 months but that can't be said for certain at this point in time. The Day Wise Net India Collections Of Sitaare Zameen Par In India Are As Under Sitaare Zameen Par Eyes A Good 2nd Day Jump Sitaare Zameen Par's Good Theatrical Performance Is Very Essential For Profitability Sitaare Zameen Par is a rare film in recent times with a lot of pressure on solid theatrical performance. Most films recover their budget or a substantial part of it from non-theatrical sources. Here, just the music and satellite rights are said to be sold, which usually form just a third of the film's non-theatrical recoveries. The box office trajectory of Sitaare Zameen Par will be interesting to follow in the days to follow.

Sitaare Zameen Par Twitter review: Aamir Khan film better than Taare Zameen Par? Audience say ‘well-intentioned film…'

Sitaare Zameen Par Twitter review: Bollywood actor Aamir Khan's spiritual sequel to his hit film Taare Zameen Par is now out for the audience. The film has adopted new strategies for its theatrical release. As we wait to see what works for the film, audiences have begun pouring their reviews on social media after watching Sitaare Zameen Par. Sitaare Zameen Par is directed by RS Prasanna. It is backed by Aamir Khan under his banner. The film marks his return to film after his last release Laal Singh Chaddha. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, a user called it a 'well-intentioned film.' The person wrote, '#SitaareZameenPar is a sweet, uplifting and well-intentioned film, with tears and chuckles galore. It makes for incredible family viewing and leaves you with a warm, fuzzy feeling at the end.' Giving it 3 stars, another user added, 'What a beautiful movie! Sitaare Zameen Par shines with heartfelt storytelling and stellar acting. The performances, especially by the child actors, are deeply moving and genuine. Some missing in emotions but recommend.' But is it better than Taare Zameen Par? Another user shared, 'A feel good heart wrenching melodrama that works well in second half #AamirKhan𓃵 and #GeneliaDeshmukh are true to their roles. For me Sitaare Zameen Par > Taare Zameen Par (sic).' Meanwhile, the film is set to premiere with more than ₹ 6 crore business on day 1, as per its advance booking report of Sacnilk. The film had no shows before 9 am, unlike traditional norms. It is being screened in over 9,000 shows across India. Talking about the film's expected business at the ticket window, previously the Mumbai-based exhibitor and distributor Rajesh Thadani said that word-of-mouth will determine good box office results for Aamir's film over the weekend. 'Since it's Aamir Khan and the subject is different, there are hopes that it will do well. I've great hope for the film, it should do anywhere between Rs. 10 to 15 crore. If the word-of-mouth is good, then box office collection should improve, and it should touch Rs. 50 crores in three days. The film is emotional and it will cater to family audiences, children and specially-abled children,' Thadani told PTI. Sitaare Zameen Par also stars Genelia D'Souza, along with ten neurodivergent actors.

Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par Advance Booking Numbers Look Promising

Last Updated: Sitaare Zameen Par sold more than 1 lakh tickets on its first day in the top national chains and languages. Aamir Khan is back on the big screen after a three-year break with Sitaare Zameen Par. Directed by RS Prasanna, the film has already piqued the imagination of audiences. It focuses on the issues faced by children with special needs, emphasising important topics such as inclusion, empathy and resilience. Sitaare Zameen Par has finally hit the screens and with intensive promotional efforts, the sports comedic drama received decent advance booking numbers. As per Sacnilk, Sitaare Zameen Par, produced by Aamir Khan Productions, sold over 1,15,344 tickets on its first day in the top national chains and languages. Based on advance sales and hype, the Aamir Khan starrer is likely to debut with a net of Rs 6.88 crore. Reportedly, it will be one of Aamir Khan's lowest openings in recent times. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh has also predicted an overall first weekend collection for Aamir Khan's film. He told India Today. 'The box office run (of Aamir Khan) currently depends on word-of-mouth. Since the promotion for the film is very light, now the film's success depends only on Aamir Khan's face-value. For the opening weekend, it could be around Rs 30 crore." Moreover, the makers came up with a unique strategy for the release of Sitaare Zameen Par. The creators apparently imposed some restrictions on show times and ticket costs. Sitaare Zameen Par's first show couldn't start before 9 am. Theatres were also urged to provide the popular weekend price. As a result, ticket prices will be slightly more than usual but still reasonable. It is a sports comedy-drama starring Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh. This upcoming film is the official remake of the Spanish film Champions and a spiritual successor to Khan's critically acclaimed 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. The film marks the Hindi film debuts of Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra and Simran Mangeshkar. Divy Nidhi Sharma penned the screenplay, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy composed the music, and cinematographer Srinivas Reddy created the images. Furthermore, in a bold and unusual move, Aamir Khan decided not to sell the film's OTT rights to any platform. Instead, he has committed to an exclusive theatrical release, seeking to reintroduce audiences to the big screen while preserving the collective movie-going experience. First Published:
