Creedence Clearwater Revival Scores Several New Platinum Hits

Creedence Clearwater Revival earns new RIAA certifications, including platinum upgrades for 'Green ... More River' and 'Born on the Bayou' and first-time gold wins for three classics. UNSPECIFIED - CIRCA 1970: Photo of Creedence Clearwater Revival Photo by MichaelCreedence Clearwater Revival is one of perhaps dozens of legacy musical acts that remain on the Billboard charts week after week after week. The group hasn't released new music in decades, but the albums and singles the musicians left behind remain popular enough to continually rack up streams and sales throughout the United States. All that consumption doesn't only help the rock outfit remain on important tallies in America, but also allows it to continually collect new platinum and gold singles and albums. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has bestowed several new awards on Creedence Clearwater Revival's catalog, with multiple smashes earning certifications – some for the first time. Two of Creedence Clearwater Revival's beloved tracks, 'Green River' and 'Born on the Bayou,' move from gold to platinum status. Songs and albums in the U.S. are certified gold after reaching 500,000 equivalent units between streams and sales, and they move up to platinum when they've shifted one million. "Green River" first went gold in 1990, so it waited 35 years to double its sum. "Born on the Bayou" needed less than a decade to reach the same milestone. Three other Creedence Clearwater Revival tracks become gold-certified wins for the first time. "Travelin' Band," "Lodi," and "Midnight Special" all earn their initial certifications from the RIAA this week, as they've officially moved half a million units. These new honors mark the first certifications for Creedence Clearwater Revival since September 2023. That month, the group's Chronicle: 20 Greatest Hits advanced from diamond — awarded at 10 million units — to 12-times platinum status. Some of the newly-certified tracks rank among Creedence Clearwater Revival's highest-charting releases on the Hot 100. Both "Green River," taken from the album of the same name, and "Travelin' Band," which appears on Cosmo's Factory, stalled in the runner-up spot on the ranking of the most consumed tracks in the U.S. Despite releasing generation-defining smashes, Creedence Clearwater Revival never reached No. 1 on the Hot 100, but at least seven of its tunes peaked at No. 2. "Lodi" rose as high as No. 52, while both "Midnight Special" and "Born on the Bayou" never made it to the Hot 100, but it looks like they have managed to stand the test of time.

The trailer for the film, called The Purple Tape Files, included cameos from Kendrick Lamar, Method Man and numerous other Wu-Tang Clan members who shared their thoughts about the project. 'It ushered in the alter egos, the aliases,' RZA says, while Lamar adds, 'Still, to this day, it's flows that you haven't heard before, saying the most wild s—t.' 'I put myself into a serious mind frame,' Raekwon said. 'A serious storytelling album. I had to make this product stand out…I knew that purple represents royalty, and that's exactly what I was looking for,' he said. Raekwon went on to talk about having to prove himself as a rapper in his own right. 'We had to make a conscious decision,' he said. Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr. Open ‘Hamilton' Medley With Original Cast at Tony Awards

There are a million things Alexander Hamilton hasn't done, but reuniting the original cast of the Broadway blockbuster Hamilton isn't one. Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., Phillipa Soo, Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Christopher Jackson, Jonathan Groff, Ariana DeBose, and others took the stage at the 2025 Tony Awards in celebration of the musical's 10th anniversary. With the cast dressed in elegant black suits and gowns, the original Hamilton cast earned a standing ovation for their stellar performance of a medley of songs from the musical. It opened with Miranda and Odom Jr., who sang 'Non-Stop.' The rest of the cast joined in for their parts throughout the rapid-fire medley, which included 'My Shot,' 'The Schuyler Sisters,' 'Guns and Ships,' 'You'll Be Back,' and 'Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down.)' It also segued through 'The Room Where It Happens' and 'Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story' before the finale of 'Alexander Hamilton.' Later this year, Odom will reprise his roll as Aaron Burr for much longer than a few minutes. For 12 weeks this fall, he will return to the cast in what he has called 'a deeply meaningful homecoming.' 'I'm so grateful for the chance to step back into the room — especially during this anniversary moment and to revisit this brilliant piece that forever changed my life and the lives of so many,' Odom shared earlier this year. Hamilton opened on Broadway on Aug. 6, 2015. The musical has earned 11 Tony Awards, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, a Grammy Award, and an Olivier. The original cast recording became the first Broadway album to be certified diamond by the RIAA. In 2016, the Hamilton cast performed 'History Has Its Eyes on You,' 'Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down),' and 'The Schuyler Sisters' at the Tony Awards. The reunion follows the recent cancellation of a Hamilton run scheduled at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026. 'The Kennedy Center was not created in this spirit, and we're not going to be a part of it while it is the Trump Kennedy Center. We're just not going to be part of it,' Miranda said earlier this year. 'We are not acting against his administration, but against the partisan policies of the Kennedy Center as a result of his recent takeover,' Hamilton producer Jeffery Seller wrote in a statement at the time. 'Political disagreement and debate are vital expressions of democracy. These basic concepts of freedom are at the very heart of Hamilton. However, some institutions are sacred and should be protected from politics.'
