2025 Philadelphia 76ers complete 2 round mock draft 3.0: best fits

The 2025 NBA draft for the Philadelphia 76ers will be focused mostly on the No. 3 pick as the Sixers will be looking to add one of the top players in this draft. After a disastrous 2024-25 season, Philadelphia was granted the No. 3 pick and will look to add one of the top young players in a draft loaded with talent. The Sixers have two picks in the draft and now is the time for a mock draft for Philadelphia for both selections (3 and 35). President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey was able to coax a second-round pick from the Dallas Mavericks in the Quentin Grimes-Caleb Martin trade back at the February deadline as Philadelphia looks to get younger. Advertisement Now is the time for a mock draft 3.0 for the Sixers for both rounds of the 2025 draft: Round 1, pick No. 3 overall: VJ Edgecombe, Baylor Jan 7, 2025; Waco, Texas, USA; Baylor Bears guard VJ Edgecombe (7) scores a layup between Cincinnati Bearcats guard Connor Hickman (8) and guard Simas Lukosius (41) during the first half at Paul and Alejandra Foster Pavilion. Mandatory Credit: Chris Jones-Imagn Images 2024-25 stats: 15.0 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 3.2 apg, 2.1 spg, 43.6% FG, 34% 3FG There is a lot of love for Ace Bailey, and deservedly so when considering his upside, but there are questions about both his game and his draft strategy. He has a questionable shot selection as he is a tough shot taker/tough shot maker type of player which might not translate to the NBA level. He also has not worked out for any team yet--including canceling on the Sixers. Edgecombe, meanwhile, is doing everything right. He is supremely athletic, able to take any defender off the dribble, and attack the basket, and he is more than solid defensively as he is aggressive at the point of attack and can create turnovers. He is an outstanding worker, and even though there are some finishing issues at the basket, he is somebody who can contribute on both ends right away. Advertisement In terms of his catch-and-shoot ability, a skill needed on a team with Joel Embiid on it, he shot 45-for-124 (36.3%) on catch-and-shoot 3s per Synergy Sports. However, he did shoot 21-for-45 (46.7%) when unguarded on those attempts. It shows that he can knock down and open look should it be needed. That shows he has a lot of shooting upside for his position and should be a great option. Also, when considering his open-court ability, the transition game led by Edgecombe, Tyrese Maxey, and Jared McCain will be tough to stop as Philadelphia focuses on getting younger and faster. Other options: Ace Bailey, Kon Knueppel, Tre Johnson Round 2, pick No. 35 overall: Chaz Lanier, Tennessee Mar 30, 2025; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Tennessee Volunteers guard Chaz Lanier (2) shoots the ball against the Houston Cougars in the first half during the Midwest Regional final of the 2025 NCAA tournament at Lucas Oil Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Robert Goddin-Imagn Images 2024-25 stats: 18.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 1.1 apg, 0.9 spg, 43.1% FG, 39.5% 3FG Advertisement After four seasons at North Florida, Lanier transferred to Tennessee for a fifth season of college and shot the lights out. He took 8.2 triples per game and knocked then down at a nearly 40% clip in the toughest conference in college basketball. His age will turn a lot of teams off. He will turn 24 in December, but he might be worth a look as a specialist with a second-round pick. Other options: Johni Broome, Labaron Philon, Drake Powell This article originally appeared on Sixers Wire: 2025 Philadelphia 76ers complete 2 round mock draft 3.0: best fits

Philadelphia 76ers free agency: How much will Quentin Grimes get?

Philadelphia 76ers free agency: How much will Quentin Grimes get? Quentin Grimes put on a show in the 28 games he played for the Philadelphia 76ers after being acquired from the Dallas Mavericks at the deadline. He averaged 21.9 points and set new career highs, scoring 44 points in one game and then 46 points in another as he showed off his scoring chops. As Grimes heads into free agency, the expectation is that the Sixers will bring him back, but one has to wonder at what price. Philadelphia's cap space is limited, but it can find a way to create more ahead of June 30 as it can dump the salaries of Andre Drummond, Kelly Oubre Jr., and create more money to bring back Grimes--and Guerschon Yabusele. The Athletic detailed how much they believe Grimes is worth as free agency quickly approaches: Known mostly as a 3-and-D guy, Grimes averaged 32.0 points per 100 possessions and shot 55.9 percent on 2s in 28 games as a Sixer, posting an 18.8 PER. However, the combination of his restricted free agency and the lack of cap space in the market should limit any sort of bidding war and put the Sixers in a strong position to keep him on a team-friendly deal. His BORD$ number is a pretty convenient one as far as his next contract. This is the pay range that keeps his pay above the nontaxpayer MLE, thus icing out any rival offers, but maintains the Sixers' status below the second apron. Thus, a three-year deal for $55 million to $60 million seems like a reasonable endpoint. For those wonder what BORD$ is, The Athletic described it as: "I developed a player valuation system called BORD$ (short for 'Big Old Rating Dollars') that uses analytics and playing time data from the last two seasons, projects values for the coming season based on a player's age and performance and then converts the projected performance and playing time into a salary estimate based on the projected cap in 2025-26 of $154.1 million." Grimes' free agency will be an interesting one to watch. He did put up a ton of numbers, but it also came in meaningless games with the Sixers out of the playoffs down the stretch of the season. One has to wonder how he will fit next to Philadelphia's Big 3 when the time comes and the games matter out on the floor, but his ability to play off the ball should do wonders for this group when October rolls around to begin the 2025-26 season so it's worth it to bring him back.

2025 NBA mock draft: Sixers trade down to select Khaman Maluach

The Philadelphia 76ers will have a lot to figure out as they head into the 2025 NBA draft with the No. 3 pick. When considering they are still one of the top teams in the East when healthy, the focus for this group is to get their stars back and hope for good health in the future. A big question heading into this offseason--other than the health of the stars--is whether they can re-sign Quentin Grimes and Guerschon Yabusele in free agency. The Sixers can create some space based on trading down in the draft. The salary difference between the player selected at No. 3 compared to later in the top 10 is enough to make trading down enticing for Philadelphia. Advertisement A mock draft performed by Yahoo! Sports has the Sixers trading down to No. 7 with the New Orleans Pelicans and selecting Duke big man Khaman Maluach: Sixers fans are already at war over Bailey and whether general manager Daryl Morey should take the skilled but raw freshman forward with the third pick. Trading down would solve a lot of issues: pick up an additional asset or two (an elite defender in Herb Jones plus one future first in this case) while just moving down for a player the Sixers might want to take with the third pick anyway. Philly would have a lot of options that make sense here whether it's a sharpshooter like Kon Knueppel, a versatile forward like Carter Bryant or Maluach, a towering rim protector with switchable mobility. Maluach is capable of erasing shots at the rim and shadowing quick guards on the perimeter. These skills would make him an intriguing fit alongside Joel Embiid early in his career in double-big lineups. Plus he could serve as a backup too. Beyond dunking lobs, he's a work in progress on offense with a lack of seasoning as a screener, shooter and creator. But he displays a shooting touch that hints at a much higher upside, not too different than Embiid when he entered the NBA. Such a raw skill-set should come as no surprise since the South Sudan native didn't start playing basketball until he was 13. Maluach played 39 games with the Blue Devils in 2024-25 and averaged 8.6 points and 6.6 rebounds along with 1.3 blocks per game. He is an elite rim protector who will be able to have those skills translate to the league right away. It is on the offensive end where he has to be able to develop some type of jumper. He is a terrific roller in the pick-and-roll, and that will be a valuable skill in terms of being able to throw down lob passes, but he will need to be a reliable mid-range jump shooter as time moves on. Sixers' Quentin Grimes has important message for NBA about the Finals

Sixers' Quentin Grimes has important message for NBA about the Finals The NBA Finals got underway on Thursday night as the Indiana Pacers and the Oklahoma City Thunder began a battle to decide the 2025 NBA champions. The stage was set as both teams look to win their franchise's first ever championship and the court with YouTube TV ads. There was not much NBA Finals signage other than an imprint of the Larry O'Brien trophy being on the basket stanchion, but that was all. No special Finals script on the court. No specialty added to the Paycom Center to signal that this game means more. This is for the championship and the court appeared to look like it was a random Tuesday night game in January. Philadelphia 76ers guard Quentin Grimes, as well as the rest of the NBA watching world, took to Twitter to send a message to the league about the lack of finals signage on the court. Grimes is 100% right. The league has to do something to make the Finals feel as special as it ought to. There needs to be more signage and a change to the court or something in order to take it all to another level as it had been in the past. As for Grimes' current free agency status, the Sixers will look to bring back the restricted free agent after he performed well in 28 games for Philadelphia. He averaged 21.9 points after the Sixers acquired him from the Dallas Mavericks at the February trade deadline.

2025 NBA mock draft: Sixers take Khaman Maluach with No. 5 overall pick

The Philadelphia 76ers won't know if they will have a first-round pick in the 2025 NBA draft until lottery night on May 12. The pick is only top 6 protected, but after a tough 24-58 season, they have the fifth-worst record in the league and are hoping for some luck on lottery night. With that being said, should the Sixers keep their pick, there are some options for them in this draft. This is a deep draft rich with a lot of young talent eager to show what they all can do at the NBA level. Even if the Sixers land either the No. 5 or No. 6 pick, they can get a good young player. Advertisement A mock draft performed by CBS Sports has the Sixers thinking big. With the No. 5 pick, they have Philadelphia taking Duke 7-foot-2 center Khaman Maluach: The final impression of Maluach at Duke was not a promising one: he played 21 minutes in a Final Four loss to Houston and grabbed zero rebounds despite his 7-foot-2 frame. But his length, movement and shot-blocking anticipation has NBA teams intrigued with his talent, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him go this high. He'd be a joy to add next to the young core in Philly that includes Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain and Quentin Grimes. On the season, Maluach averaged 8.6 points and 6.6 rebounds along with 1.3 blocks per game. As mentioned above by CBS, he had a miserable end to the 2024-25 season. Along with zero rebounds, he committed four fouls and only had a block in the loss to the Cougars. However, he did have 14 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks in the Elite 8 win over Alabama so the potential is there. The Sixers could always use some size off the bench and Maluach certainly fits that bill.
