BSNL soft launches Quantum 5G FWA

New Delhi [India], June 20 (ANI): The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced the soft launch of BSNL Quantum 5G FWA (Fixed Wireless Access). This indigenous, SIM-less fixed-wireless-access solution delivers fibre-like speeds over 5G radio, according to an official release issued by the Ministry of Communications. BSNL made this announcement on June 18 in Hyderabad. The service was inaugurated at BSNL's Ameerpet Exchange by A Robert J Ravi, Chairman and Managing Director, BSNL/MTNL. 'Quantum 5G FWA demonstrates how Indian engineers can create world-class connectivity. It is the first SIM-less, 100 per cent home-grown customised 5G FWA for BSNL,' Ravi said. 'Hyderabad's tech-savvy ecosystem makes it the perfect launch pad for our next-generation access portfolio. Today is only a soft launch--many more cities and feature upgrades will follow,' he added. BSNL is the first Indian operator to showcase a production-grade SIM-less 5G service, which is built on BSNL's Direct-to-Device platform so the customer's CPE auto-authenticates - no physical SIM required. It has a fully indigenous stack with core, Radio Access Network (RAN), and CPE designed and integrated by Indian vendors under the Atmanirbhar Bharat programme. Ameerpet recorded 980 Mbps DL / 140 Mbps UL with sub-10 ms latency--ideal for UHD streaming, cloud gaming, and remote work. Its self-install gateway reaches 85 per cent of Hyderabad households under the existing BSNL tower grid; no trenching or fibre pull is required. After the soft launch, the pilot will be expanded to Bengaluru, Pondicherry, Visakhapatnam, Pune, Gwalior, and Chandigarh and will go live by September 2025. Introductory plans at Rs 999 for 100 Mbps and Rs 1499 for 300 Mbps. The same 5G SA core will support network-sliced, SLA-backed links for MSMEs and smart-manufacturing clusters. This is a controlled ('soft') launch intended for customer experience fine-tuning; nationwide commercial roll-out will follow after field feedback. Positioning BSNL as 5G pioneer with Quantum 5G FWA BSNL becomes the first Indian operator to offer indigenous 5G radio and SIM-less authentication. The event was attended by the Board of Directors of BSNL, CGM Telangana, CGM BBNW, academia & industry partners, and dignitaries from the Department of Telecommunications. BSNL remains committed to expanding its Technology and communication footprint across India, ensuring connectivity reaches every corner of the nation, including rural and remote areas. BSNL soft-launches 5G FWA service in Hyderabad, plans pilots in more cities

NEW DELHI: State-controlled telecom carrier Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited ( BSNL ) has soft-launched its SIM-less 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) solution, 'Quantum 5G FWA', in select cities of Hyderabad. This will be followed by expansion on pilot-basis in other key cities including Bengaluru, Pondicherry, Visakhapatnam, Pune, Gwalior and Chandigarh by September 2025. A soft-launch is intended to gather customer experience feedback for fine-tuning various parameters ahead of a wide-scale nationwide roll-out. Introductory plans for BSNL Quantum 5G FWA are priced at ₹999 for 100Mbps and ₹1,499 for 300 Mbps. This compares to Bharti Airtel 's 5G FWA plans priced ₹699, ₹799, and ₹899, and Jio's 5G FWA plans priced from ₹1,499. Notably, BSNL has yet to commercially launch its fifth-generation or 5G mobile services nationwide. The telecom PSU currently provides 4G services via a footprint of 1 lakh mobile towers. 'Quantum 5G FWA demonstrates how Indian engineers can create world-class connectivity. It is the first SIM-less, 100% home-grown customised 5G FWA for BSNL,' Robert J Ravi, CMD, BSNL said in a recent statement. 'Hyderabad's tech-savvy ecosystem makes it the perfect launch pad for our next-generation access portfolio. This is only a soft launch; many more cities and feature upgrades will follow,' Ravi said. Its private sector rivals, Jio and Airtel, have been offering their respective 5G FWA services since late 2023. There were 7.5 million FWA subscribers as of April 2025, including Jio's 6.14 million and Airtel's 1.36 million. FWA additions (730,000) have already surpassed fixed broadband (370,000) and constitute 60-80% of the overall monthly broadband additions, analysis by Axis Capital showed earlier. According to the telco's statement, the service utilises BSNL's direct-to-device platform to automatically authenticate the subscriber's consumer premises equipment (CPE) without requiring a physical SIM card. This makes BSNL the first Indian telco to showcase a production-grade SIM-less 5G service, the statement added. It is built on a fully indigenous stack including the Core and the radio access network (RAN). The standalone (SA) 5G Core will also support network-sliced, service level agreement (SLA)-backed links for MSMEs and smart-manufacturing clusters. BSNL said the Quantum 5G FWA service recorded a peak download speed of 980Mbps and an upload speed of 140Mbps with sub-10ms latency in Ameerpet. Its self-install gateway reaches 85% of Hyderabad households under the existing BSNL tower grid, which eliminates the need for trenching or fibre pull.

BSNL's SIM-free Q-5G arrives in Hyderabad: What is it and who can use it?

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), on Wednesday, June 18, announced that its 5G service will be called Q-5G, short for Quantum 5G. In a post on X, BSNL said that the name 'reflects the power, speed, and future of BSNL's 5G network.' The state-owned telecom operator has also launched Q-5G Fixed Wireless Access (Q-5G FWA), an internet leased line for enterprises. BSNL says that Quantum 5G FWA will bring 'only high-speed data without voice' and offers a SIM-free, wireless solution for enterprises. BSNL launches Quantum 5G FWA – India's first SIM-less 5G internet. Experience lightning-fast, wire-free connectivity. Now rolling out in select cities.#BSNL #BSNLQ5G #Quantum5G #DigitalIndia@JM_Scindia @PemmasaniOnX @neerajmittalias @DoT_India @CMDBSNL @robertravi21 — BSNL India (@BSNLCorporate) June 19, 2025 BSNL's new Q-5G FWA service is aimed at tier-2 and tier-3 cities, where optical fibre cables are quite rare. Based on technology developed in India, the network operator's newest service will help deliver high-speed internet to businesses, offices and residential areas where the network is patchy or absent. However, unlike normal 5G services offered by Airtel, Jio and Vodafone Idea, BSNL's Q-5G FWA does not include voice, which means users won't be able to make calls. In case you are wondering, this is similar to Airtel Xstream Fiber and Jio AirFiber, which offer fast internet connectivity without SIM or wires. Similar to these aforementioned services, BSNL will install a Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) on the customer's rooftop, which will bring 5G connectivity and deliver internet to the user's home using a router. BSNL's new Q-5G FWA service offers a minimum speed of 100 Mbps and costs Rs 999 per month. The company is also offering a Rs 1,499 plan with speeds of up to 300 Mbps. Currently, BSNL Q-5G FWA is limited to Hyderabad, but the telecom operator has already said that it plans to extend the service to cities like Bengaluru, Pondicherry, Vishakhapatna, Pune, Gwalior, and Chandigarh by September this year. In the last few months, the network operator has been actively testing its 5G networks in several Indian cities, but it is still unclear when it will be rolled out to the general public.
