This Gritty Psychological Thriller Is the New #1 Film on Netflix (And It's Based on a True Story)
Gritty and intense are just a few of the words being used to describe A Widow's Game, a riveting thriller that has quickly shot its way to the top spot on Netflix. Based on a true story, the film centers around the mysterious events and investigations surrounding a man found dead under suspicious circumstances. The first person on the potential perpetrator list is his widow, which catches everybody off guard because nobody believes that she would be capable of the act of killing her husband in such a cruel manner. Things are never as they appear, however, and as it turns out, the story involves a number of secrets that leave everybody stunned. Directed by Carlos Sedes and starring Carmin Machi and Ivana Bacquero, the Spanish thriller is based on the factual events of a 36-year-old man named Antonio Navarro Cerdán, an industrial engineer who was ambushed and stabbed to death. And according to Rotten Tomatoes reviewers, the film is packed with twists and turns that don't disappoint. "The acting is excellent and the pacing is good, except for a short time in the middle where it focuses on the killer's POV. Looking at the story, the detective's method worked well," writes one Rotten Tomatoes reviewer, who gave the movie a 4-star rating. "I especially liked the actress who played the lieutenant," writes another. I've been looking for a new thriller to add to my watchlist this week, and A Widow's Game seems right up my alley…especially since it's the new number one film on Netflix. Gerard Butler's New Action Thriller Soars to #3 on Netflix—Here's Why Everyone's Watching
Gerard Butler has another smash hit on Netflix. Just three months after Den of Thieves 2: Pantera claimed the number one spot on the streaming service for the week of March 20, the 55-year-old actor has come back to extend his reign with his 2023 action movie Plane, which has suddenly climbed to the number three spot on the platform. The film sees Butler starring as a pilot named Brodie Torrance, who is tasked with saving passengers from a lightning strike by making a risky landing on a war-torn island. Directed by Jean-François Richet, and considered by many to be among the top action films of that year, Plane packs all of the punches as it's filled with twists and turns along the way. The biggest? Hostile rebels kidnapping most of the passengers after the brutal landing, leaving Brodie with only one person to turn to—Louis Gaspare, an accused murderer who was being transported by the FBI. At the time of its release, Plane grossed $74.5 million at the box office on a $25 million budget, earning positive reviews from critics and a 78 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film also received stellar reviews from Rotten Tomatoes audience members, one of whom writes, 'Action, suspense and thrills galore. Gerard Butler, Mike Colter, Daniella Pineda and Tony Goldwyn give it dimension with brilliant character interpretations. The cinematography is good. The plot does have a couple of twists, though, and if suspense is your thing, this will keep you pinned to the screen and will not disappoint." Another reviewer adds, 'This was a great film. It was no less believable than action movies with Jason Statham or Liam Neeson. I was riveted the whole time. And for what it's worth, the fight scene was more realistic than most—not choreographed chops and kicks but grappling and struggling. If you want suspense, see this film.' During the occasion, the royal was captured by cameras in a series of striking images that caught my attention (all seen below, in addition to one showing off the aforementioned footwear). For his outing, William was wearing a striking brown coat from Baleno Country, which featured a detachable hood, multiple pockets and adjustable brand describes this coat as being suitable for a variety of activities, including dog walking and horse riding, making it an appropriate choice for the outing. Are Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift living together? It appears that just might be the case judging by recent comments made by Kelce on the May 14 episode of his New Heights podcast, which he hosts alongside brother Jason. During the episode, the brothers welcomed former NFL stars Andrew Whitworth and Ryan Fitzpatrick for an exclusive interview, and while interviewing the two, Kelce spoke a bit about the $20 million Boca Raton property he's renting for the off-season. "We've got chimneys and we've got furniture," Kelce explained, and it appears from the use of the word "we," that he and Swift could be living together. Fitzpatrick followed up Kelce's comments by asking if he (Kelce) is the one that gets to make the decorative decisions in the house, to which Kelce coyly replied, "It was an executive decision by myself for the betterment of everyone, yes." While Kelce didn't give an official confirmation, it definitely seems like the lovebirds have taken the next step in their relationship. The couple, who have been dating since the end of 2023, are "absolutely happy" together according to an October 2024 episode of the show, where he was joined by Grotesquerie co-star Niecy Nash-Betts. During the convo, Kelce thanked Nash for always having his back when it comes to the questions she's bombarded with about his relationship with Swift. "Every time someone has a mic in front of you and asks you something like that, thank you for always showing love," he said. "You know it's real. And you know that me and Tay are absolutely happy." The doting mom commemorated the birthday on Instagram with a set of adorable pictures featuring Ernest and his four-year-old brother August, alongside Eugenie's husband Jack Brooksbank, with the caption, "Happy Birthday, my darling Ernie. 2 today, and what an incredible two years it's been. Always smiling, always laughing, always giving hugs and hellos, and making everyone happy. My golden boy, we love you!" The comments were equally sweet and supportive, with commenters pointing out a hidden detail: how much the two look alike. "He is the image of you," wrote one fan.
