Drama fest ends with award ceremony

Photo: EXPRESS The Punjab Council of the Arts, Rawalpindi, hosted the grand closing ceremony of the Regional Drama Festival, aimed at reviving family theatre and offering high-quality entertainment to the public. A total of 13 drama teams participated, presenting plays on various social and cultural themes, showcasing their artistic talent in full form. Parliamentary Secretary for Auqaf and Religious Affairs, Government of Punjab, Malik Iftikhar Ahmed, was the chief guest. He distributed certificates of appreciation and shields to the participating artists, directors, and members of the Drama Scrutiny Committee. Speaking on the occasion, he praised the artists as a valuable national asset who promote Pakistani culture and bring pride to the nation through their talent. Prominent personalities who graced the closing ceremony included Founder of the Arts Council Naheed Manzoor, renowned poet Dr Afshan, former Arts Council Director Chaudhry Waqar Ahmed, PTV News Producer Malik Waqar, officers from the PNCA, along with noted artists, poets, and writers from Rawalpindi and Islamabad. In his address, Director of the Punjab Council of the Arts, Rawalpindi, Muhammad Shakoor, extended heartfelt thanks to all distinguished guests, drama teams, scrutiny committee members, and attendees.

'Andheray Kay Roop' shines at drama festival
On the twelfth day of the ongoing Regional Drama Festival organised by the Punjab Council of the Arts, Rawalpindi, the stage play "Andheray Kay Roop" was performed. The play featured outstanding performances by renowned artists including Shazia Sheikh, Dr Waqar Azeem, Sania, and others, earning enthusiastic applause from the audience. The story revolves around a blind girl battling loneliness, the shadows of her past, and her inner conflicts. Isolated from the world, she interacts with a single male character who represents her memories, fears, hopes, and dreams. This character appears in multiple forms — sometimes as a friend, sometimes an enemy, and sometimes a romantic figure — symbolising her emotional journey. The performance drew a large audience, including city dignitaries, media representatives, families, officials, and members of literary and cultural circles, all of whom praised the cast's exceptional performances. Dr Afshan Malik, a renowned poet, and PML-N President Raja Naseer were the special guests. They lauded the Government of Punjab's Family Theatre initiative, noting that the drama festival is not only delivering wholesome, high-quality entertainment but also preserving and promoting cultural heritage.

Stage drama highlights artists' struggles
Renowned artists presented spectacular stage performances on the Fifth day of the ongoing Regional Drama Festival 2025 organised by Punjab Council of the Arts, Rawalpindi. The stage play 'Numaish' was presented on the 5th day won the hearts of the audience. The play was written by renowned television, theatre and radio actor and writer Tahir Siddiqui. The story of the play was based on the emotions and social aspects of an artist's life.

PNCA holds vigil for Marka-e-Haq martyrs
In a heartfelt tribute to the bravery and sacrifices of the martyrs of Marka-e-Haq and the courageous armed forces of Pakistan, the Punjab Council of the Arts (PNCA) Rawalpindi hosted a poignant Candlelight Vigil and Prayer Ceremony. The event, which aimed to honour the martyrs of Operation Bannyan ul Marsoos and pay homage to the landmark military operation against India, saw the participation of several distinguished individuals from different religious backgrounds, further reinforcing the spirit of unity, patriotism and interfaith solidarity in Pakistan. The candlelight vigil was a solemn event, commemorating the brave souls who laid down their lives in defence of Pakistan's sovereignty and honour. It was held in the heart of Rawalpindi, was attended by a large number of citizens, including military personnel, civilians and families of martyrs. The ambiance was filled with reverence as the soft glow of candles illuminated the evening, symbolising the eternal remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Among the martyrs particularly honoured during the ceremony were those who fought valiantly in the significant military operation, Operation Bannyan ul Marsoos.
