The 10 sneaker trends you're seeing everywhere this summer
Backgrid This year, no fashion item has made headlines quite like sneakers. The sneaker trends that have defined the first half of 2025—and those forecasted for the next six months—suggest many people are striving for anti-mainstream designs. In an effort to avoid another Samba saturation situation, new-gen style fans have taken to fresh silhouettes, or unearthed lesser-known, archival styles, as an alternative to those in the mainstream spotlight. Of course, there has been a plethora of cult styles that, like Sambas, have been worn by what feels like every celebrity and It-girl (strategic seeding is partly to thank for this, no doubt). In no particular order: the Nike Air Max, Puma Speedcat, and the Adidas Taekwondo and Tokyo have all been increasingly popular this year. And you can best believe that crowds at Oasis's reunion tour this summer will be two-stepping in Gallagher-inspired Adidas trainers (Liam Gallagher has collaborated with the brand on several iterations of Spezials). Other staff predictions that came true: the comeback of skater trainers, that 'could have been stolen from your best friend's older brother's room in 2002, swiped from next to his PlayStation 2', as British Vogue 's Daisy Jones recently observed. Along with the continued obsession with performance trainers and Gorpcore (Salomons, Hokas, Merrells, and Asics continue to reign supreme), plus an endless stream of collaborations that have us on high alert, there is a little something for everyone. As we head into the summer months, bold, bright colors and retro-inspired shapes continue to dominate, so don't set them aside just yet. Scroll on to shop all 10 sneaker trends to note for the rest of 2025. Getty 1 / 60 The bold and the beautiful Step aside, minimalism. This year, the sneaker-sphere is all about color—where more is more. Miu Miu's colorblocked, Gymnasium sneaker, walked the spring/summer 2025 runway and became an instant street style must-buy, while many rainbow-coded iterations of classic sneaker shapes from Adidas, Nike, and other heritage brands have hit shelves. Injecting something bold into your usual mix is a smart move—just ask Bella and Gigi Hadid, who have been forerunners for the movement. From Proenza Schouler's track-inspired sneaker for spring/summer 2025, an editor-favorite in bright cobalt, to Dries Van Noten's subtle update to their beyond-popular sports shoe, plus the success of Puma's Speedcat, a favorite of sneakerheads like Dua Lipa and Emily Ratajkowski, suede is definitely on point. The buzz around these hybrid sneakers, characterized by elements of ballet, such as delicate laces or satin fabrications (similar to a pointe shoe), continues to gain momentum. Harry Styles was recently spotted out and about in London, wearing Prada's Collapse sneakers, while early adopters of the trend included Bella Hadid and Amelia Gray, on the women's front. Given that Simone Rocha featured a new variation of satin low-tops on her fall/winter 2025 runway, the sneakerina surely will remain popular through the end of the year. Backgrid 19 / 60 Sporty sprinters From Miu Miu to Maison Margiela, sneakers inspired by sporty, sprinter shapes are having their moment. It's a natural progression, given all the retro runners that are floating around currently. The main difference is that these have a treaded gum-sole, mimicking the idea of spikes, like those on the sole of their technical counterparts. Margiela's Sprinter has become one to watch, while collaborations such as Comme des Garçons x Spalwart are selling quickly. Bottega Veneta's reinvention of their Orbit sneaker, now in a low-runner shape, solidifies this as the next step in the world of throwback-inspired kicks. Courtesy of Adidas x Sporty & Rich 25 / 60 Partnerships, partnerships, partnerships Collaborations have always been a powerful tool in the sneaker landscape, with the most coveted styles selling at inflated prices on resale sites long after their initial release. This year saw continued success for the ongoing partnerships between Wales Bonner and Sporty & Rich with Adidas, while Loewe x On returned for another round, and the MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon mule finally dropped. With more brands jumping on the bandwagon at every turn, expect the remainder of 2025 to be big on the collaboration front. Are yesteryear shoes bound for a return? Nike's Noughties-hailing Shox—the 'anti-Samba,' which were reinterpreted as a mule by Martine Rose, saw massive traction, as well as the more humble Air Max 1s and even Converse, with the uptick in high tops. British Vogue 's Daniel Rodgers also discussed whether he should bring back his Balenciaga Triple Ss (granted, they're only seven years old, but they still feel kind of nostalgic) or whether they're still too earnest. Courtesy of 37 / 60 Loaf up One of the many sneaker hybrids that entered the chat was New Balance's loafer-trainers. Elsewhere, Cecilie Bahnsen released sporty Mary Janes, via her collaboration with Asics, while Simone Rocha experimented with track-soled ballerinas, and Salomon unveiled a backless mule version of its XT-4 silhouette, made in collaboration with MM6 Maison Margiela. Salomon also joined forces with Sandy Liang to create coquettish ribboned sneakers, which tapped into the customization trend of adding charms, chains, and jewelry that has swept social feeds. This is a movement that Molly Rooyakkers, founder of @ says can make 'an otherwise standard item feel personal.' Although these shouldn't reach Samba status—it would ruin their charm—Vans Slip-Ons and Old Skools have seen plenty of traction, through celeb endorsements from Zoë Kravitz and Jennifer Lawrence, who often sport in their ever-cool, off-duty wardrobes. Other true skate styles that we expect to see take off include the Busenitz from Adidas (already hard to get), and New Balance's Numeric Brandon Westgate 508, both of which run a little more under the radar. Getty 49 / 60 Pitch kicks 'With the women's Euros coming up in summer 2025, get ready to see even more football-inspired sneakers everywhere,' asserts Rachel Makar, senior director of merchandising at StockX. Football fever already took over fashion during the men's Euros–football shirts and scarves became a style fixture off the pitch, so prepare for 2.0 next summer. At the same time, Oasis will be on their reunion tour–Britpop is also, of course, intrinsically linked with football culture–so prepare to see fans rocking three-stripe trainers (and parkas, and mod cuts…). Courtesy of Asics_Sportstyle 55 / 60 Gorphardcore Gorpcore is no longer a trend–it's a lifestyle. Enthusiasts pine after performance trainers, including Salomons, Merrells, Hokas, and Asics—the latter of which has outperformed most running shoe brands, according to Emily Minea, director of merchandising at GOAT, who dubs it 'the ultimate nondescript running brand.' On the street, everyone from Hailey Bieber and Bella Hadid has backed the movement. With the continuous sell-out status of new drop colorways of the XT-6, to Loewe x On's latest collaboration style, the trend is not going anywhere anytime soon. White Sneakers Were My Travel Uniform Until I Found This Ultra-comfy, Celeb-loved Pair That Matches Everything
Let's be honest: finding the perfect travel shoe is never easy. What works well for one trip might be completely off for another. We all want shoes that are cute but not flashy, comfortable but not clunky, versatile but still show off our unique style—and bonus if they don't scream 'tourist.' After years of lugging multiple pairs of shoes around the world 'just in case', I've finally found one of my favorite travel shoes: the Puma Speedcat OG sneakers. Don't get me wrong, I do love a good pair of white sneakers. But after ruining one too many on muddy streets (I tend to hike or run wherever I go), I started looking for something more practical. I wanted shoes that were colorful, versatile, and could keep up on subway commutes in London or trails in Colorado. The Puma Speedcats aren't just another pair of sneakers; they make my feet feel good even after thousands of steps, and still look cool when you are stepping out for dinner in a new city after exploring all day. Plus, they come in a variety of colors and work with everything in my travel bag. $100 at Nordstrom $100 at I picked up the Puma Speedcat OGs right before a work trip that took me from Santiago to Punta Arenas and then onto an Antarctica cruise with Aurora Expeditions. Traveling light was key as I was taking a charter flight with strict luggage weight restrictions (33 pounds) from Punta Arenas to King George Island before my cruise, but I also had a couple of days in Santiago with plenty of exploring crammed in. Normally, I'd bring at least two, maybe three pairs of shoes: something to walk in, something to dress up, and a backup. But these Speedcats made me gamble, and that really paid off in terms of traveling light. I wore them straight out of the box onto my flight and all over Santiago. I paired them with everything from my comfortable airport joggers, jeans, and a T-shirt in Santiago, and a dress for the captain's dinner aboard Aurora Expeditions' Silvia Earle. What I really like about these shoes is their low-profile sole, which is flat but surprisingly supportive, keeping me comfortable for hours on my feet without the dreaded arch ache. That's thanks in part to the OrthoLite insert built into the shoe, which adds just the right amount of cushioning and support. Despite their street style appeal, the Puma Speedcat OG's rubber outsole has a similar grip to the traditional performance shoes I'd normally wear for running or hiking, a nod to Puma's motorsport heritage; the original Speedcat, which debuted in 1998 as a Formula 1 racing shoe, was designed with an ultra-slim profile to help drivers shave off precious milliseconds on the track. $100 at Nordstrom $100 at There's also a padded tongue and collar that provide extra cushion without adding too much weight. I've worn these shoes with jeans, joggers, and even a skirt, and they work flawlessly. Another thing I appreciated about the Puma Speedcat is its sleek, aerodynamic profile. They come with either a suede or leather upper with Puma's iconic Formstride leather. Maybe that's why these shoes have been embraced by celebrities like Rihanna, Dua Lipa, and Jennifer Lawrence, who were spotted wearing them everywhere. If you're still not brave enough to travel with just one pair, let me tell you a secret: these shoes collapse down surprisingly well in a suitcase for easy carry (the flexible shape helps). However, they're so comfy that I never end up packing them; instead, I just wear them through security, on the flight, and straight out into whatever city I land in. The only thing to keep in mind is that, because of their sleek design, the shoe may seem narrow for those with wide feet. In that case, just size up for a little bit more room. $100 at Nordstrom $100 at So, if you're a frequent traveler, a light packer, or just tired of swapping shoes midday like me, I can't recommend the Puma Speedcat OG Sneakers. But if you don't want to travel with just one pair and want to explore other stylish options from Puma, here are five other travel-ready picks worth checking out. Love a great deal? Puma steers the style conversation with a bold new Speedcat colourway
Originally designed for Formula 1 drivers in 1999, the Puma Speedcat is a bold symbol of self-expression, capturing a spirit of freedom and unpredictability. It was brought back from the Puma archive for its 25th anniversary, rewriting the legacy of this motorsport-inspired style for a new generation. The reimagined Puma Speedcat was introduced in the summer of 2024 with immediate celebrity co-signs — think Grammy award winner Dua Lipa and K-pop sensation Rosé — and sell-out appeal. By October last year it was named the hottest sneaker on the Lyst Index, the quarterly ranking of the hottest brands and products based on shopper behaviour, including searches, product views, social media mentions and sales.

Sneakers edge out office dress shoes and high heels in South Korea
South Korean stars like singer Jennie (left) and actress Han So-hee (right) are ambassadors for sports brands such as Adidas and Fila. PHOTOS: ODDATELIER/INSTAGRAM, FILASOUTHEASTASIA/INSTAGRAM SEOUL – In 2025, sneakers are not just a staple, but also the main event. From minimalist streetwear to quiet luxury to even formalwear, they have become the unshakable foundation of fashion identity. Once ruled by dress shoes, South Korea's style landscape is shifting towards comfort and versatility. No longer bound by the old adage that 'beauty comes at a price' – often pain – today's trendsetters are redefining elegance on their own terms. The towering high heels once endorsed by fashion legends have been dethroned in favour of flat, colourful sneakers that match feminine dresses and sharply tailored jackets. This change is perhaps most visible in the workplace. Dress shoes – long considered essential for professionals – are being phased out, replaced by sneakers as the new go-to item for the daily commute. Corporate dress codes have loosened in recent years, and sneakers now dominate the emerging aesthetic of the modern office look. Today's trend is not just about wearing sneakers, but also about styling them with intentional contrast. Pairing couture jackets with leggings, or structured coats with sweatshirts, people are boldly combining polished elements with athletic ones. And fashionistas are investing strategically. The sneaker trends in 2025 range from time-tested classics like the Adidas Samba and Puma Speedcat to innovative models from New Balance and Fila. Adidas, in particular, remains a powerhouse. Since early 2025, sleek, tapered designs inspired by taekwondo shoes have been surging in popularity. Suede-insert styles, which gained traction in 2024, continue to hold strong. The global retro craze has further fuelled Adidas' rise, aided by its ambassador, South Korean singer Jennie of K-pop girl group Blackpink. After the 29-year-old was spotted wearing the Tokyo and Taekwondo models, both styles went viral as 'Jennie shoes', creating explosive demand. Jennie of K-pop girl group Blackpink in Adidas. PHOTO: ODDATELIER/INSTAGRAM The silver trend , especially for summer, is another breakout story. New Balance is capturing the moment with its 740 model in white silver. With its sharp silhouette and two-tone overlays, the sneaker's futuristic colourway and clean aesthetic have become a fashion favourite. Since the start of the 2025 spring-summer season, the brand has had a visible presence on the feet of celebrities and influencers, cementing its status as both sporty and elegant. Fila, too, has found renewed cultural momentum. The brand's Echappe Silver Moon model, with its sporty line patterns and logo-less side panel, channelled a refined gorpcore vibe. South Korean actress Han So-hee's starring role in the campaign helped reinforce Fila's presence among younger consumers. Now, Echappe Version 2 has launched, again sparking a frenzy after being worn by celebrities like American model Hailey Bieber. South Korean actress Han So-hee is the global ambassador for Fila. PHOTO: FILASOUTHEASTASIA/INSTAGRAM Puma is another brand to watch. Known for its bright colours and edgy styling, it continues to enjoy support from figures like Blackpink singer Rose, who recently became its global ambassador as the face of the Speedcat line. The new Speedcat models – including the Speedcat Ballet, a ballerina shoe-inspired silhouette, and Speedcat Go, a Mary Jane-style sneaker – are injecting playfulness and innovation into the market. Blackpink singer Rose in Puma's Speedcat sneakers. PHOTO: PUMASPORTSTYLE/INSTAGRAM The sneaker surge is having a tangible impact on sales. According to Musinsa, South Korea's leading online fashion retailer, the sneaker category grew by 115.7 per cent in 2024. In contrast, the dress shoe category grew by only 32.2 per cent. In fact, major South Korean footwear brands are struggling. Tandy, a formal footwear brand, saw 2023 revenue fall 9 per cent to 102.9 billion won (S$96.4 million). Misope, a women's formal footwear brand, reported a 12.4 per cent decline to just 69 billion won. Esquire plunged 33.1 per cent, from 73.3 billion won in 2022 to 49 billion won in 2023. The decline of dress shoes is especially apparent in offline retail. Department stores, once strongholds of the formal shoe industry, are scaling back. At The Hyundai Seoul in Yeouido, a recent renovation saw the third-floor dress shoe section cut by half, slashing the number of brands from 13 to four. Similarly, Shinsegae Department Store in Myeong-dong moved its dress shoe section from the third to the sixth floor and downsized from 12 brands to just two. Taking their place? Sneaker and running shoe brands. The once-niche market for running shoes is now a major player, even in South Korea's top department stores. The nation's sneaker market reflects this momentum. According to Euromonitor International, the industry grew from 2.78 trillion won in 2021 to 3.42 trillion won in 2023. The 2024 figure is estimated to have surpassed 4 trillion won. Experts agree that this is not a fleeting trend. 'Workwear has changed,' said stylist and fashion YouTuber Kim Ji-hye. 'Mixing sneakers into formal and business outfits is the norm now. Why wear uncomfortable shoes when you can look better and feel better in sneakers?' She added: 'And the brands are killing it every season. The hottest sneakers sell out fast and go for more on resale apps like Kream and Karrot.'
