Watch: Pujara Trolls Vaughan For Old Tweet On India, Frames It And Makes Him Sign It
Last Updated: Cheteshwar Pujara framed an old tweet of Michael Vaughan in which he had predicted India's defeat to Australia and made him sign it. Cheteshwar Pujara left Michael Vaughan red-faced on live TV ahead of the first Test between India and England at Headingley (Leeds). Pujara framed an old Tweet of Vaughan in which he had predicted a 0-4 defeat for India after their horror show in the Adelaide Test of 2020 during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. India were bowled out for a historic low score of 36 in the second innings of the day-night contest – the first of the four-Test series. Australia went on to win the contest but what followed is part of cricket folklore. India went on to win the second Test held in Melbourne before forcing a draw in the third Test in Sydney. In the series-decider, held in Brisbane, India completed a famous chase to win 2-1 and became the first visiting side to condemn Australia to back-to-back Test series defeats at home. The tweet that aged beautifully, for some 😜 #SonySportsNetwork #GroundTumharaJeetHamari #ENGvIND #NayaIndia #DhaakadIndia #TeamIndia — Sony Sports Network (@SonySportsNetwk) June 20, 2025 On Friday, Pujara, who is in England on broadcast duties for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, took the opportunity to remind Vaughan of his wrong prediction and asked him to sign the framed tweet. When shown the post, Vaughan said, 'I'd forgotten that. That's a long time ago!" Pujara, who was part of India's squad during that tour, said, 'I would like you to autograph this" leaving Vaughan and Sunil Gavaskar in stitches. The former England captain took it sportingly and posed with the frame after signing it. Pujara last played for India in the final of the ICC World Test Championship in 2023 following which he was dropped. He has played 103 Tests so far and scored 7195 runs at an average of 43.60. The 37-year-old on Friday presented debutant B Sai Sudharsan with his Test cap. Sudharsan, who registered a four-ball duck in his debut innings, is the 317th cricketer to play Tests for India. Cheteshwar Pujara embarrasses Michael Vaughan on live TV, frames his disastrous tweet and makes him sign it
Cheteshwar Pujara put former England captain Michael Vaughan in an embarrassing position on Live TV before the start of the India vs England first Test match at Headingley in Leeds on Friday. Pujara presented Vaughan with a photo frame and requested his autograph on it in the pre-match show on Sony Sports Network. It was no ordinary gift. It was Vaughan's four-and-a-half-year-old tweet, predicting a 4-0 whitewash in Australia's favour when India toured Down Under in 2020-21. With a sheepish grin on his face, Vaughan took the photo frame and signed it, even as Pujara and Sunil Gavaskar had a hearty laugh. Vaughan had put out a tweet predicting India would be whitewashed by Australia after they lost the first Test in Adelaide after being bowled out for their lowest-ever Test total of 36 in the second innings. To be fair to Vaughan, he was perhaps not the only one predicting oneway traffic in favour of Australia in the remaining three Tests, especially knowing the fact that India's captain and best batter Virat Kohli would fly back home and remain unavailable for the remainder of the series due to the birth of his first child. But India staged a fairytale comeback. It would not be an exaggeration if it were also described as a sporting miracle. They won the second Test in Melbourne courtesy a wonderful century from stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane, drew the next Test in Sydney as Hanuma Vihari and Ravichandran Ashwin put their bodies on the line and finally breached the fortress Gabba thanks to terrific knocks Shardul Thakur, Washingtonn Sundar in the first innings and then by Pujara, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant in the runchase. India became the first team to beat Australia in successive Test series in their own backyard. Pujara, who was the Player of the Series in 2018-19, once again returned as India's second-highest run-scorer in 2020-21 with 271 runs in four matches but the star for India was young keeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who scored 274 runs at an average of 68. With the ball, it was Mohammed Siraj (13) and Jasprit Bumrah (11) who shared 24 wickets between them to lead an inexperienced bowling attack, giving a torrid time to Australian batters. This series win tasted sweeter than the previous one for a number of reasons. India missed a number of their key players due to injuries and personal reasons, while Australia had Steve Smith and David Warner at their disposal, who were not a part of the hosts' side two years ago due to the sanctions imposed on them for their involvement in the sandpapergate.

'Legacy Of Number 3': Fans React As Cheteshwar Pujara Hands Sai Sudharsan Test Cap
Last Updated: Fans couldn't stop the comparisons and 'baton transfer' feelings as Cheteshwar Pujara handed Sai Sudharsan his debut India cap before the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Headingley. Former India number three Cheteshwar Pujara handed Tamil Nadu batter Sai Sudharsan his debut India cap before the first match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Headingley in Leeds on Friday (June 20). He becomes Test number 317 and likely the new batter for the crucial one-down position. Fans on social media found it quite a wholesome moment, a passing of the baton of sorts. Pujara made his debut in 2010 as a middle-order batter but was asked to take up the number three spot permanently when Rahul Dravid retired. Pujara has not retired yet, but has been out of favor of the Test side since the World Test Championship final in 2023. Initially, Shubman Gill took over the number three position. Though he scored some runs there, he never looked quite at ease technically. After his appointment as the captain and Virat Kohli's retirement, he has decided to drop to number four, and will bat there starting from the Headingley Test. Fans on social media found Sudharsan as more of a natural fit and the team's gesture to ask Pujara — who's there as a pundit — to hand over the cap also enhanced that feeling. One user reacted: 'From one No.3 to another… 🫡 Pujara gives the Test cap to Sai Sudharsan. A beautiful passing of the torch moment at No.3. 🥹❤️" Another said: 'From the monk of No. 3 to the apprentice Pujara handing the cap to Sai Sudharsan isn't just a gesture, it's a handover of discipline, grit, and quiet defiance. A new chapter begins where the old one stood tall. 🙌" Cheteshwar Pujara hands the Test Cap over to Sai Sudharsan 🥹❤️Legacy of No 3…..!!! #SaiSudarshan #Pujara #ENGvIND — Dipanjan Chatterjee (@I_am_DipCh) June 20, 2025 As expected, Sai Sudharsan has been handed a Test cap. He's impressed everyone who has watched him. Handed the cap by Cheteshwar Pujara. Sort of a passing of the baton, even though Che would believe he's far from done. #ENGvIND — Saurabh Somani (@saurabh_42) June 20, 2025 India's former No.3 Cheteshwar Pujara handed India's new No.3 Sai Sudharsan the Test cap. 🥹❤️That's what you call the exact HANDOVER 🤝 #ENGvIND #ENGvsIND #INDvsENGTest — Suman18 (@king__sumanx) June 20, 2025 Pujara ne Sai Sudharsan ko di apni pehli Test cap…!! 🥹No.3 ka asli legacy pass ho gaya aaj…❤️From the Wall 2.0 to the next Gen! #INDvENG #SaiSudharsan — Sourabh Kumar (@iamsourabh1818) June 20, 2025 Sudharsan has the experience of 29 First-Class matches with 1957 runs at an average of 39.93. Watch: Out-Of-Favour India Cricketer's Reunion With Kuldeep Yadav In England
Last Updated: India's England tour is set to start from Friday in Leeds where the first Test of a five-match series will be played. Cheteshwar Pujara may have last played a Test for India in 2023 but he will be part of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England. Pujara, one of the finest India Test batters, is part of the broadcast team for the India-England series that starts from Friday in Leeds. Ahead of the series opener, Pujara had a mini reunion with India left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav with the two sharing a hug and pleasantries at Headingley – the venue of the first Test. Pujara was dropped from India's Test team following their big defeat to Australia in the final of the ICC World Test Championship held in June 2023. The 37-year-old is a veteran of 103 Tests in which he has 7195 runs at an average of 43.60. He has 19 centuries and 35 fifties to his name. The first Test will be the first of the latest WTC cycle for India as they start a new era under captain Shubman Gill. With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired, the Indian batting line-up appears short on experience and vulnerable and Pujara says succeeding in English conditions requires acclimatisation and confidence. 'It is a mental battle here, so one needs to stay positive," Pujara told The Indian Express Pujara also feels that the time has come for India to have a different squad for Test cricket. 'I genuinely believe that if you look at the way things are progressing in international cricket, every team is slowly moving towards a white ball squad and a red ball squad," Pujara said. 'So, we need to ensure that we pay enough attention to our red ball players and ensure that we preserve them, make sure that they are playing red ball only." Ignored Star Visits India's Net Session Ahead Of 1st Test vs England, Chats With...
With Team India's preparations for the tour of England going on in high intensity ahead of the first Test at Headingley, they were joined by a surprise visitor a day before the match. Veteran India batter Cheteshwar Pujara - India's Test No. 3 for many years - visited the team on Thursday. Pujara was greeted on the sidelines at first by chinaman Kuldeep Yadav, before bowling coach Morne Morkel came over to meet. Pujara and Morkel shared a light-hearted moment, with the latter cracking a joke aimed at Kuldeep. "He (Kuldeep) has kept me on my toes, let's be honest," Morkel quipped to Pujara, as the three men on the touchline shared a laugh, in a video posted on social media by Sony Sports Network. Dekhiye India's Tour of England, kal se Sony Sports Network ke TV Channels par! #SonySportsNetwork #GroundTumharaJeetHamari #ENGvIND #NayaIndia #DhaakadIndia #TeamIndia — Sony Sports Network (@SonySportsNetwk) June 19, 2025 Pujara, 37, has found himself out of the India setup for over two years, having last played in the World Test Championship (WTC) final of 2023, which India lost to Australia. A veteran of 103 Tests, Pujara amassed over 7,000 runs at an average of 43.60. Now, however, he will be in the commentary box as India take on England for a highly-awaited five-match Test series. India face a conundrum over the No. 3 spot, which Pujara occupied for many years. Heading into the first Test, India have a choice to make between B Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair for the role. Legendary Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson formally unveiled the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy ahead of the opening match of the five-Test series between India and England, here on Thursday. The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, a joint initiative between the two boards ECB and BCCI, hereon replaces the Pataudi Trophy (for series in England) and the Anthony de Mello Trophy (for series in India) for all India-England Test contests. The trophy launch was earlier scheduled for June 14 but it was pushed for a later date due to the tragic Air India aircraft crash in Ahmedabad. The Pataudi family will continue to be honoured with a newly-commissioned Pataudi Medal to be presented to the winning captain of each India-England Test series. The trophy features imagery of Anderson and Tendulkar in action, along with their engraved signatures - a tribute to two of the sport's most iconic figures who also hold top two spots for most Tests played by any player. While Tendulkar retired after his 200th Test more than a decade ago, Anderson played his 188th and last in 2024.
